Meet Lee Trautman

Born and raised in Portland, OR

1969: US Army, Field Intelligence (MA, Vietnam, Germany)

1973: Portland State University

1977: Western Engineers intern. Fell in love with refrigeration

and stayed eventually moving into sales

1991: Precision Refrigeration

1994: PermaCold Engineering

2009: Logix Refrigeration Controls Company

Meet Lee Trautman

April 30 2017: Retirement

June 2017: Re-starting Engineering Studies to complete

degree at Portland State University

In the early 1990’s, Lee was sent to an ODI conference in

Eugene. He fell in love with the organization and has been to

every conference and golf outing, since then. He served on the

Board of Directors and later as President.

Meet Paul Nelson

1970: Graduated from WSU

1970: Returned home to the family dairy farm in Colville, WA to

operate a producer handler operation with father and brother.

1978: Vitamilk Dairy, Seattle. Started as a pasteurizer then moved to

plant foreman, production manager and operations manager

2003: Safeway Bellevue Milk Plant, Quality Assurance Supervisor

2016: Retired

Paul has been a member of the Washington Association of Food

Protection since his college days. He was president of that

organization twice during that time.

Paul’s advise to young professionals getting into

the dairy industry:

• Join and be active in your local professional

organization. The connections you make with other

people in the industry are important for your

professional growth

• Never stop learning. Attend conferences and

seminars to keep current with the constant changes

taking place in the industry


Rob Marlowe

Meet Rob Marlowe

1975: B.S. in microbiology (ROTC). Oregon State University.

1981: Lab Technician. Mayflower Farms/Darigold, Portland.

1990: Quality Manager. Darigold Portland.

2016: Retired (after 35 years with Mayflower/Darigold)

• Followed transition of fluid milk industry from HTST

products coded at 19 days to UP products coded at 120 days

• Rob has been married for 42 years, and has 2 children and 5

grandchildren. Retirement will provide Rob more time for

hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, and traveling.

Advice to young professionals getting into

the dairy industry

1. Find a mentor to provide guidance and help promote

your career.

2. When you are in a position where it is possible, be a

mentor. It can be a very rewarding experience.

3. Develop a rapport with regulatory personnel. They

aren't the enemy.
