Another Success Story for Gujarat in Another Part of the Country
The Government of Gujarat participated in the Odisha MSME International Trade Fair – 2014, organized
jointly by the MSME Department, Government of Odisha and National Small Industries Corporation Ltd.
iNDEXTb, on behalf of Govt. of Gujarat receiving the "Best Display Stall" from Hon'ble Minister of MSME, Odisha Government
Much in sync with the tradition of Gujarat and Gujarati people to win laurels wherever they are present,
the exhibit of the Gujarat Government was awarded as the ‘Best Display’ in the Government Promotion
Sector amongst all the other participants in the category.

The aesthetically decorated display stall was a unique blend of Gujarat’s rich culture and heritage,
seamlessly blended with the trade and enterprise friendly nature of the state.
Specific Focus on Gujarat The presence of Gujarat in the event of such stature only added more shine to the success of the event.
The Government of Gujarat worked hard to develop an innovative and attractive way to promote the
growth of MSMEs in the State and the efforts put in to design the exhibit definitely paid off in the end.
The panels put up in the exhibit were highly informative, capturing the essence of Gujarat in a very lucid
yet exhaustive manner. The exhibit thus aptly received the token of appreciation from the organizers of
the event. And this was aptly covered by media as indicated by the news clips below.

Stepping Stone for a Future Together The Government of Gujarat is well known for being highly supportive of any industry being set up in the
state; and has always promoted Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises to set up their business units in the
state, along with the larger industries.
The National Manufacturing Policy aims at increasing the present share of manufacturing sector in
GDP from 18% to 25% by 2025
Manufacturing Sector in Gujarat contributes to 27.6% of GSDP in Gujarat with a CAGR of 23% in last
two years
Government of Gujarat has announced to attain the target of 32% contribution of the Manufacturing
Sector in the GSDP of the state through specific interventions in sub sectors such as MSME, a backbone
of Manufacturing Industries in Gujarat state
To create an approach of active linkage of small and large industries of Gujarat with Odisha and other
eastern states
Govt. of Gujarat with the intention of showcasing Gujarat’s industry friendly policies and conducive
environment has thus taken a decision to participate in this international event to create specific focus
on Gujarat and promote the linkage between east and west part of the country.

Event Details
Odisha MSME International Trade Fair 2014 ‘Odisha MSME International Trade Fair 2014’ was organized by the Department of MSME, Government of Odisha and the NSIC with the aim of providing a strong platform for the MSMEs, not just in Odisha, but also around the country to gain exposure to the Indian as well as global business scenario and best practices. The event provided a market tool to MSMEs for exploring new markets and exposed them to technical and technological development taking place around them.
The event provided a unique opportunity for all the stakeholders of the MSME sector to network and understand the best way forward to develop the sector and keep it export oriented. The platform benefitted not only the Odisha buyers and the Odisha markets, but also several pan-India delegations comprising of buyers from various states all over India. This event has become a brand of immense value and tremendous potential both from the business as well as knowledge point of view.
Objectives of the event
To discover new market opportunities and technologies through organized meetings with potential customers and suppliers from India and abroad
To exhibit the capabilities and export potential of Indian MSMEs as well as their goods & services
To forge closer linkages and networking amongst MSMEs, through exchange and sharing of experiences as well as know-how on best business practices and strategies
MSME International Trade Fair-2014 is always visited by dignitaries and decision makers from the Govt. and the industry from all over India

The event turned out to be highly successful with over 270 exhibits being set up in the trade fair and a
presence of almost 2.67 lakh visitors over the course of the event.
Some of the notable participating organizations at the event included Rourkela Steel Plant, Mahanadi
Coalfield Ltd., NALCO, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., Paradip Port Trust, Tata Steel, Indian Oil Corporation
Ltd. and Essel Mining. More than 40 renowned equipment manufacturers, 16 nationalized and private
banks and new entrepreneurs participated enthusiastically in the event. In addition to domestic
participation, delegates from countries like Egypt, Republic of Malawi, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe,
Ethiopia, Rwanda and Burundi also marked their presence at the international trade fair.
Around 14 seminars, centered on different topics across the spectrum of the MSME sector, were
organized during the event. Along with knowledge sharing sessions, buyer – seller meets were also an
important component of this fair. Seven information centers were set up during the event to disseminate
information on aspects such as funding, setting up MSMEs and marketing of MSMEs.

Outcomes
A total business of almost INR 4.51 crore was generated during the trade fair as per sources
NSIC announced that the Government of India intends to establish a MSME facilitation centre in
Bhubaneswar in the coming future

NSIC also has plans to set up 20 – 25 incubation centres all over Odisha within the next four to five
years to encourage new entrepreneurs to flourish in the state
A pact, under which MSMEs of Odisha would be able to garner credit support from around 23 major
nationalized and scheduled banks of the country
The MSME Department of Odisha will be implementing 19 new ideas with the support of Professor
Anil Gupta of IIM, Ahmedabad, who is also a member of National Innovation Council
Lot of interests and enquires for Gujarat were raised throughout the event
Way Forward
The seven day trade fair turned out to be a strong platform for all stakeholders of the MSME sector to
come together and discuss the issues, challenges and way forward in the development of India’s Micro,
Small and Medium Enterprises. Not just from an Odisha point of view, but also from a national point of
view, the event turned out to be highly business oriented and enjoyable for the participants.
Government of India should continue supporting the development of MSMEs all over the country by
facilitating their business vis – a – vis capital support and policy support
Finance and micro finance companies should be encouraged to assist the MSME sector of the country
as finance requirement is a major obstacle in the path of development of this sector
The Government of Gujarat can also propose schemes and policy changes, based on the learnings
from this event, regarding development of MSMEs in the State
Incubation Centers can be set up across Gujarat to encourage entrepreneurs in the State to establish
export oriented MSMEs
The SEZs, SIRs and Industrial Parks coming up in the state can have special provisions for supporting
MSMEs and exposing them to global best practices in manufacturing and marketing of products
Universities in Gujarat can also look towards establishing Centres of Excellence (CoEs) to identify
bottlenecks in the development of MSMEs in the state and find out innovative solutions for the same
