January 5, 2020 The Epiphany of the Lord

The Feast of Epiphany is a reflection of the Light. Through the Birth of Jesus, we see the

arrival of the Light in the world. The three wise men followed the brilliant star in the sky.

To them, the light of the star was a symbol of hope, of joy and of peace. To them, the star

was but a small reflection of the fullness of the Light of the world that awaited them at the

end of their journey. Through the Magi, we see the light of hope, of joy and of peace to

come.

As we celebrate this feast let us reflect upon Christ the light of the world. As he did to the

Magi, God shows the stars to us and we might ask ourselves, what are the stars in our

lives? The same star of faith and hope will also lead us to Jesus our King and Lord.

Baptisms - If you or someone you know wants your/their child baptized in the Catholic Faith, please contact Deacon Jim (319-509-1210) or the parish office at 319-283-3743. There are many specific cards available but we also have VISA Debit Cards that can be

used wherever Visa cards are accepted. There are also Amazon cards if you are one of those that likes to place orders through Amazon. HOMILY NOTES - What did I hear at

Church today that I want to remember?

Mass Intentions - For those of you that are not aware, Father Atwood is required every weekend and every Holy Day to say a Mass for the People of his parishes. This requirement is shared with Fairbank. What that means is that Sacred Heart has approximately 12 Sunday Masses and 45 Saturday Masses each year to say for specific people (families). With the number of people making requests at Sacred Heart, it does not take long for them to fill up. For those of you that do not have any Masses already scheduled for 2020 there are many Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays available throughout 2020. Every attempt will be made to honor people’s requests but your understanding is also required.
