Resources
S. Gallow, April 2014
What is OER anyway?
• Open Educational Resources
• Full courses, materials, modules, textbooks, videos,
images, etc.
• Reside in the public domain OR have an open license
• Allows for free use-repurposing by others
Benefits
• Free
• Accessible on-line
• Variety of Resources available: images, videos, full courses, syllabi, course modules, textbooks, etc.
• Accessible to everyone
• Allows for collaboration across the country & around the globe
• Cuts down on the number of times the wheel needs to be re-invented
Challenges
• So many resources, so little time to look through all
of them
• Need to check quality of resources
• Few resources developed specifically for pre-college
• Difficult to find “exactly” what you want
• Licensing is confusing– need to be sure to double-
check!
