Volume 19, Issue 10 OCTOBER 2017 THE MESSENGER of Quaker Gap Baptist Church - King, NC A WORD FROM PASTOR JACK… Power and Passion As a believer in Jesus Christ you have an unseen power, a secret weapon to guide you through life. This secret weapon is God Himself, who takes residence in your life in the form of His Holy Spirit. Without the influence of the Spirit, your Christian life is weak, timid, directionless, and dull. With the increase of the Spirit, your walk with the Lord becomes urgent, powerful, purposeful, and exciting. Christian life apart from the Spirit is like eating food without flavor. It gets the job done at the expense of joy. Who needs that? You are created for joy, not lifeless obedience. The Bible encourages you to be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18). As a believer, you already have the Holy Spirit, or should I say, the Holy Spirit has you. However, if you want to access the power of the Spirit in a greater way, you need His filling. In order to be more filled with the Spirit, you need to yield yourself to Him. Yielding to the Spirit means you are sensitive to His voice, and you respond willingly. It requires prayer. It requires attention to God’s word. It requires humility and obedience. One who is yielded to the Spirit is passionate about repenting of fleshly desires and repeating godly actions. The more room you make for the Spirit in your life, the more He will fill you. The more He fills you, the more you will experience power, purpose, and joy. Unfortunately, many believers experience the opposite. The Bible warns believers of quench- ing the Spirit (1 Th. 5:19) or grieving the Spirit (Eph. 4:30). This occurs when you ignore the call of the Spirit and do life your own way. Prayerlessness, lack of Bible study, and willful disobedience crowds the Spirit out. You become calloused to the Spirit’s guidance and hardened to His voice. The Christian life degenerates to duty and not delight. This is no way to live! As Paul encourages, keep in step with the Spirit (Gal. 5:25). Make room for the Spirit! Then you will live this life the way God designed it, emboldened with passion and power for each new opportunity. If we live by the SPIRIT, Let us also keep In step with the SPIRIT. A WORD FROM PASTOR JACK…

Power and Passion

As a believer in Jesus Christ you have an unseen power, a secret weapon to guide youthrough life. This secret weapon is God Himself, who takes residence in your life in the form of HisHoly Spirit. Without the influence of the Spirit, your Christian life is weak, timid, directionless, anddull. With the increase of the Spirit, your walk with the Lord becomes urgent, powerful, purposeful, and exciting. Christian life apart from the Spirit is like eating food without flavor. It gets the jobdone at the expense of joy. Who needs that? You are created for joy, not lifeless obedience.

The Bible encourages you to be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 5:18). As a believer, you alreadyhave the Holy Spirit, or should I say, the Holy Spirit has you. However, if you want to access thepower of the Spirit in a greater way, you need His filling. In order to be more filled with the Spirit, you need to yield yourself to Him. Yielding to the Spirit means you are sensitive to His voice, andyou respond willingly. It requires prayer. It requires attention to God’s word. It requires humilityand obedience. One who is yielded to the Spirit is passionate about repenting of fleshly desires andrepeating godly actions. The more room you make for the Spirit in your life, the more He will fillyou. The more He fills you, the more you will experience power, purpose, and joy.

Unfortunately, many believers experience the opposite. The Bible warns believers of quench-ing the Spirit (1 Th. 5:19) or grieving the Spirit (Eph. 4:30). This occurs when you ignore the call ofthe Spirit and do life your own way. Prayerlessness, lack of Bible study, and willful disobedience

crowds the Spirit out. You become calloused to theSpirit’s guidance and hardened to His voice. TheChristian life degenerates to duty and not delight. Thisis no way to live!

As Paul encourages, keep in step with the Spirit

(Gal. 5:25). Make room for the Spirit! Then you will

THE MESSENGER 3 OCTOBER 2017

A Godly Walk

Our day started very early this morning. My mother, sister andI all picked up the pace trying to catch up with my father as he walkedtoward the hospital. It was a walk that none of us would have chosento take. We were headed with dad to have his P.E.T. scan done to findout where his cancer was located. As I watched dad walk across theparking deck, I was thankful that his "life walk" has given me an exam-ple to follow. I am so thankful that he has always pointed me to theheavenly Father and encouraged me to walk with the Savior.

As I considered this, I thought what does walking with the Sav-ior look like? In Ephesians 5:1-2, Paul says, "Therefore be imitators ofGod as His dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has lovedus and given Himself for us." Just like my own father, first and fore-most, God has loved me. So much so that He sacrificially gave of Him-self to me! God wants us to walk (live) a life like that, walking in love, giving of ourselves, not expecting something in return. As we walk in

love, Paul also encourages us to "walk as children of light." (Ephesians 5:8b) As believers in Christ,we now live as children called out of darkness into His marvelous light. No longer are we to wasteour lives in the unfruitful works of the darkness of sin, but God asks us to wake up and do the thingsHe brings to light! "For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth finding outwhat is acceptable to the Lord." (Ephesians 5: 9-10)

And lastly, Paul says to "walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, be-cause the days are evil." (Ephesians 5:15-16) He again chal-lenges us to understand what the will of the Lord is and to befilled with the Spirit. This is walking in His wisdom. Whosewalk are you watching? If we are imitating God and walkingas children of light, we will be "making melody in our heartsto the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God theFather through Jesus Christ, and submitting to one another inthe fear of God." (Ephesians 5:19-21) This is a walk that Ilong to take and I am so thankful to be walking alongsideyou all!

THE MESSENGER 4 OCTOBER 2017

You are the

salt of

the earth.Matthew

5:13 Salt BoxHe Cares...

Odds are that sometime this month the Parker family is going to ex-pand from three to four. We are eagerly anticipating the arrival of our sec-ond child, Ella Jean Parker, sometime this month. But as we get thingsready for her arrival, as we prepare her nursery, crib, the house, diapers, bottles, etc... I have to be honest with you, I worry about how on earth weare going to be able to provide for all of her wants and needs once she ar-rives. I mean, most of you know that having a family is not easy nor cheap. It is our responsibility as her earthly parents to do everything we can to pro-vide her with food, clothing, and a roof over her head until she becomes anadult and moves out on her own one day. So, for roughly the next 18 years,Ashleigh and I are responsible for providing for both Rilee and Ella. See, asa father I long to be able to provide everything that my children will everneed. As a husband I long to be able to provide for my wife. As the man ofthe house I feel this overwhelming responsibility to provide for them. I amreminded of what the word says in Matthew 5:11:

"If you then, though you are evil, knowhow to give good gifts to your children, howmuch more will your father in heaven give goodgifts to those who ask Him."

As I worry about providing for my family and giving them what theyneed, I am reminded that our Father in heaven knows what we need, andHe will provide for our needs. But more than that, the way that I feel aboutmy wife and children... He feels that times a million for you and your fami-ly. God knows what we need, He knows the desires of our hearts, and Hewill provide.

I share this with you this month because I feel like there may besomeone that needs a reminder that God loves you. He knows your heartand your needs. He has never left you, and He will always provide for you.You are His masterpiece, created in His image, and He loves you more thananyone else can or will ever love you. He wants the BEST for you!

Serving HIM,

Daniel Parker
