NOTES FROM THE DIRECTOR:

Hello everyone.

Since the Georgia Fall RV Rally, Louise and I have been travelling to some out-

of-state Samborees (something everyone should try). It is interesting getting out

to the other states and seeing how they do their RV Rally. Some states have a

large RV Rally at extravagant RV Resorts; some have them in fairgrounds, and

some in various campgrounds. The one thing they have in common though is they

have a lot of fun doing what is available at the RV Rally. Get out and get to an

out-of-state Samboree and see what I mean. Go to www.goodsamclub.com and

go to the community link for Events. There you will find a listing of all RV

Rallies available to choose from. If you plan your trip right you can go cross-

country and hit an RVRally in just about every state on your route. Hey, here’s an

idea…why don’t we plan on caravanning to an RV Rally in one of our

neighboring states this year?

Since our RV Rally, Louise and I attended the North Carolina Fall RV Rally, the

South Carolina Fall RV Rally, and the Florida Winter Rally at Tally.

Don’t forget the GA Spring RV Rally is just around the corner. The theme is 50s

& 60s. Entertainment is in place: Thursday, The Kempters, Friday, Crystal Gage,

Saturday, The Fabulous Boomers. It is going to be a fun weekend.

See you there!

Chapter 3 - Sowega Sams

The November 2015 campout was held at the Flint River RV Resort in Bainbridge, Ga. We were hosted by Jim and

Charlsie Little and Lamar and Ione Little and Harold and Barbara Fleshman. We had 11 rigs present with Harold and

Carolyn Kelly, Gene and Brenda Ramsey, and Roger and Terry Varnadore visiting for a day. Tuesday evening, we had a

hot dog supper with the proceeds going to the VA fund. Wednesday at lunch, we were treated to a spaghetti lunch

sponsored by the campground. Thursday lunch was enjoyed at Hall’s Seafood Restaurant. There was plenty of card games

played and thanks to our gracious hosts, everyone enjoyed themselves immensely.

The December 2015 campout was held at Sugar Mill Campground in Ochlocknee, Ga with Roger and Terry Varnadore

and Fred and Ann Rossman Hosting. We had 11 rigs represented and Jack and Donna Sangster, Faye and Wendell Brown

and Katherine Bateman as our daily visitors. On Tuesday, some played Golf and on Tuesday Night our hosts held a

Sausage Dog supper for our VA fund raiser. Wednesday night after prayer meeting we had finger food and our Christmas

Party. On Thursday at 10.00 AM, our club meeting was held with our President, Jack Sangster, presiding. Our special

officers committee presented several names to the club to serve as our Elected Officers for 2016. They were, Charles

Taylor, President, Ken Sanders, Vice President, Betty Richie, Secretary and Treasurer, Lynn Hamner, Assistant Secretary

and Treasurer and Legislative Representative, Wendell Brown. These were voted on and accepted. After our meeting, the

club had their campout meal at Rock Bottom Seafood Restaurant in Thomasville, Ga. Our oldest member, Katherine

Bateman was celebrating her 97th Birthday and the club sang Happy Birthday to her and helped her celebrate this special

birthday. Many games of hand and foot were played and we had two games of beanbag baseball. Team 1 was the winner

of both games.

The January 2016 meeting was held at the Golden Corral Steak House in Albany, Ga. and at this meeting we plan the

2016 yearly itinerary and the Secretary, Betty Richie gave each member a copy of members and a list of all our 2016

officers. Charles Taylor, New President, held our meeting and Betty Richie, New Secretary and Treasurer, read the

minutes from our December 2015 campout. A schedule of 2016 campout locations is still being completed. Twenty Three

Rigs have enrolled for 2016.

CHAPTER NEWS

Chapter 10 – 10kt Gold Travelin’ Sams

In November, we had a wonderful camping trip to Cedar Creek Campground in Cave Springs, GA. We had a great time

at the Cookie Walk in Cave Springs and shopped till we dropped in the quaint little town of Warm Springs. Most of us

had already been to the Little White House but that is very close by.

Our Christmas party was our December meeting. We had a great time playing games and exchanging gifts and, as usual,

the food was delicious. We also contributed to the Dawsonville Senior Center’s food drive as they are so kind as to let us

use their facility.

January found some of us in Florida and we all met for lunch at a delicious seafood spot in St. Petersburg called the 4th

Street Shrimp Market. They have outstanding clam chowder. The rest of the group, who stayed home in Georgia, met at

one of the couples’ home for lunch. We will be taking a month off in February, then get back into the swing of things in

March.

Chapter 11 - Yosemite Sams

November found Yosemite Sams at Twin Oaks in Elko. Victor and Yvonne did a wonderful job of planning things to do

and providing lots of good food. Thursday some of us played golf while others went shopping in town and had lunch in

town. Thursday night we had a sub sandwich buffet that included so many items you would have thought we were at

Subway! There were also all kinds of desserts, homemade cakes, pies, cookies and brownies. Friday a bunch of us went to

the Go Fish exhibit in Perry at the Fair Grounds. If you've not been there, you need to go. It was so much fun and

educational as well. We went deep sea fishing on a simulator sitting on the back half of a boat and also fresh water fishing

on the back half of another boat. Then we went fishing outside in a real pond. Several caught fish and most at least got a

bite. It was a catch and release pond. Then we found the aquariums along the outside of the building. There is a walkway

that goes along the side of the aquarium and you can see the biggest fresh water fish you've ever seen. There were lots of

big mouth bass, small mouth bass, gars, bream, cat fish, crappie and many others. Friday night we had chili and lots of

trimmings, deserts and snacks. As always there was not a shortage of food. Saturday night we went to eat at a restaurant

called Carriage House. This was a really nice old house and there was an event center there also. We got to watch a young

couple getting married. The food was excellent and the staff did a wonderful job of getting all the food out at the same

time. We were really full by the time we left. In addition to eight rigs; we also had four visitors this weekend. Lily Bell

and Cheryl Jones and John and Tina Cotter all joined us for the weekend. It was so good to see them and hope to see them

again soon.

December: Our year ended with our Christmas Party at Richard and Janice’s house. Again we had a great time and Janice

and Richard did a wonderful job of decorating and preparing lots of food. We had 27 people attending. Got to see some

folks we've not seen in a while. Harry and Pat were back from Alaska and shared their experiences with us. Greg, Tree

and Imogene were also able to attend and we were glad they could make it before they headed for warmer weather. We

had such amazing food; turkey, ham, casseroles, and so much more. There were cakes, pies and all kinds of candies. Just

way too much food but everyone enjoyed it so much. Instead of exchanging gifts we collected $500 to give to the Cobb

Street Ministries. We missed all that could not make the Christmas gathering and hope to plan some great campouts in

2016.

Chapter 12 – Happy Hearts Sams

HAPPY HEARTS #12 had an unofficial campout at High Falls State Park in November (12th - 15th). We had a good

group "in number and in spirit". We went to Pastime Grill @ Barnesville on Friday night for some awesome prime rib.

Our President, Marion Reeves, grilled chicken for our group on Saturday and we added many sides and desserts, making

quite a delicious spread. I believe our favorite activity was when we had "target practice" at the Diagnostic Center at

Jackson and we had many participating. The lesson was very "REAL and EDUCATIONAL". DECEMBER CAMPOUT

was at Twin Oaks Campground at Elko and a very happy time was had as we celebrated the "BIRTH OF OUR LORD".

We went to the Carriage House for dinner on Thursday night, had a pizza party and games on Friday night and had our

host meal on Saturday at lunch. We exchanged gifts in an interesting and unique way after our monthly meeting. Later,

twenty-two of us went to see the Gaither Vocal Band in Macon.

JANUARY CAMPOUT was at Sugar Mill at Ochlocknee near Thomasville. We enjoyed a little nicer weather there as

opposed to being in our homes to the north. We played games and practiced "bean bag baseball". We are getting ready for

the "Good Sam's Rally" in April....so look out, "HERE WE COME"..... We went Jonah's Fish & Grits in Thomasville for

dinner on Saturday....that is a super restaurant! Our host meal was Mexican. When our campout was over, eight rigs

headed to Florida...six to same location and two others to different locations. See attachments of three photos taken at

Sugar Mill....no. 1 is our HAPPY HEART SWAT TEAM...no. 2 is ladies chilling and no. 3 is me & my buddy....HAPPY

2016 to ALL!

Chapter 13 – Lucky 13 Sams

Nov 19 - 22, 2015 Brickyard Plantation RV Park in Americus, GA

The November Campout was cancelled. However, many Lucky 13 Sam campers did have an opportunity to camp in

smaller groups at various campgrounds.

Dec 30, 2015 – Jan 3, 2016 Dec/Year-End Campout Twin Oaks RV Park in Elko, GA The December/Year-End Campout turned out pretty good for the numbers that attended. Campers went to the Air

Museum at Warner Robins Air Force Base. Lots of food was shared, as well as a variety of games of Joker and other card

games. Gifts were also exchanged. Even though some campers had conflicting schedules and were not able to attend,

everyone there had a great time. (Note: Rex and Clareon were camping in California while working in their roles as

Santa and Mrs. C.)

Chapter 15 - Good Sams with Mini-Sams

LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW, LET IT SNOW! ….GEORGIA STYLE!

Stone Mountain Campground never saw us coming! Good SAMs With Mini-SAMs enjoyed the MLK Jr holiday weekend

(Jan 15-18) playing in the snow at Snow Mountain!! Much fun was had by all racing down the slopes in solo tubes and

family tubes and playing at the Snow Fort! Some of the Mini-SAMs nailed some of the SAMs with snowballs…good

times, good times. At the campground we enjoyed our traditional campout communal meal (thanks to the Sheltons!), went

for walks, and enjoyed all the fellowship! The weather couldn’t have been better! We even had time to celebrate some

members’ January birthdays at Medieval Times! So much fun!

We can’t wait until our next campout…and the next RV Rally in April!!! Look for us…we’ll be wearing poodle skirts and

black jackets! Lots of great fun will be had, so invite and bring your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and

meet us at the “Mini-SAMs Zone!!”

If you camp with your children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, and are interested in joining our chapter, don’t

hesitate to contact us at [email protected], or 478-320-8122. Spread the word!

Chapter 33 - Yargo Sams

In November you would have found Yargo at Stone Mountain Park; one of our favorite places to camp. We enjoyed

dinner at the Metro Diner on Friday night and covered dish with honey baked ham on Saturday night. Some went to the

Christmas activities and some just stayed at the campground. Also on November 19, we made our annual trip to Egleston's

neo natal unit. The nurses, doctors, and chaplain were so glad to see us. They say it is like Christmas. One of the big hits

was the "Mamaroo".

In December, Yargo's annual Christmas party was at the Cherokee Cattle Company in Marietta. There was great

fellowship, good food and a gift exchange.

Yargo does not camp in January.

Chapter 19 – Singing Sams Happy New Year from Chapter 19 Singing Sams. We pray that 2016 will be a year full of God’s blessings to each of you!!! Our

Chapter is saddened at the homegoing of one of our dear members, Hazel Grace Couch, on November 27. She will be sorely

missed. Prayers for her sweet husband, Harry Lee.

Our November 20-22 campout was at Twin Oaks in Elko, GA. Linda Morris was our Hostess. We had 11 rigs & some drop ins

over the weekend. Friday a group of the ladies went to the Mistletoe Market at the Fairgrounds in Perry. Friday night we went

to Yoders. We were joined by the Wangens, Barnwells, Rhodes, Linda Tolcher, & Faye. It was a yummy time & the desserts

were fabulous! We went back to the clubhouse for visits & games until bed. Breakfast & lunch were BYO to the clubhouse. In

the afternoon, our Hostess taught us how to make candy. We had a large group participate & it was fun to get to taste our

handiwork. We did have a business meeting following this led by Tom. The rest of the afternoon everyone was on their own.

The evening meal was soup & salad with a variety of sides & desserts. The Rhodes joined us again for the evening. Sunday

morning we all headed home.

We had our Christmas luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 5, at Lizella Baptist Church. What a great turnout! It was a beautiful day &

we all had such a wonderful time! The food was delicious & plentiful. Harry Lee joined us for lunch. It was so good to see him.

Thanks to the Barnwells for arranging the location. It’s always a special time together before Christmas.

We had 12 rigs at our New Years campout Dec. 30 - Jan. 1 at Lake Pines RV Park in Midland, GA. Lots of Food (lots of great

dishes), fun and fellowship. (Played games Joker, Mexican Train and Phase 10 cards and watched ALL football games) We

watch the ball drop in New York on TV and wished everyone a Happy New Year and said prayers for all. (submitted by Linda

Barnwell)

First campout for 2016 on January 15-17 found us back at Twin Oaks in Elko, GA. Rick & Louise Starhuski hosted. There were

14 rigs. Friday started out rainy, but it moved out by lunchtime. Lunch was BYO to the clubhouse where lots of folks hung out

talking, playing games, & working on puzzles. Rick grilled hot dogs for supper & the tables were loaded with sides& desserts.

Very yummy! Renee’ dropped in for the evening. Some of the grandchildren of the members were there, too. Always special.

Saturday morning Louise made coffee in the clubhouse. We hung there until lunch when leftovers were served & others joined

with their own food. We played beanbag baseball, games, puzzles, & visited for the afternoon. Ham(Starhuski) & Boston

Butt(Crosby) were provided with sides & desserts to round out the meal. The Rhodes & Linda Morris joined us for the evening.

Sunday morning coffee, ham & bread, & sausage balls were available to nibble. Rick led a devotion from Psalm 100:4-5. We

ended our time with folks praising God for Who He is & what He’s done in their lives. Some prayer requests were shared.

Goodbyes were said & all headed home.

Our upcoming campouts are Beaver Run RV Park February 19-20& Scenic Mt RV Park March 18-20. We’re all looking

forward to the April Spring Rally in Perry!!! See you there!!!

Chapter 22 – Free Wheeling Sams

HAPPY TRAILS AND BLESSINGS IN 2016 to our fellow Good Sams and Samanthas! As a new camping season begins

for The Free Wheeling Sams, we request your prayers for some of our chapter members, who are not well and/or facing

other challenges in this new year. We were also saddened to hear of the death of former members George McCoy (August

2015) and Tom Allen (December 2015) just prior to his 100th birthday.

The Free Wheeling Sams do not schedule campouts November through February; but, do enjoy getting together for

luncheons:

NOVEMBER 2015 Luncheon was held at O’Charley’s Restaurant in Kennesaw, Georgia, on November 19 with fifteen

(15) member rigs in attendance. Members, David & Donna Burkey and Bob & Patti Duncan, hosted the event that

included a white-elephant gift exchange, candy-jar party gifts, and flower arrangements for door prizes.

DECEMBER 2015 Luncheon was held at the Sidelines Grille in Canton, Georgia, on December 10 with twenty (20)

member rigs in attendance plus some former members who no longer camp. Members Glenn & Kathy Hansen hosted this

event that included their handcrafted party favors--snowmen tree ornaments from small pottery plant pots— games for

prizes, and cake for dessert!

MARCH-OCTOBER 2016 CAMPOUT SCHEDULE: Due to the new April schedule for the Georgia Good Sam Rally

(Samboree), the Free Wheeling Sams are planning to kick off their 2016 season in March with a trip to a [hopefully warm,

sunny] presently undetermined Georgia location. Other confirmed plans include the Georgia Good Sams’ Spring and Fall

Rallies; the Chapter’s annual July Lyle Mix Memorial Kidz Kampout at River Country Campground in Gadsden,

Alabama; and, an October campout in Hiawassee, Georgia. The Free Wheeling Sams welcome visitors and new friends!

Chapter 36 - SAMetro Sams

November 2015 - Wagon Masters Don & Kathy Nadeau took the Chapter to Harvest Moon RV Park in Adairsville, Ga

(November 9-13). We had twelve rigs in attendance, ending the season with double digits!!! On this outing, our Project

Linus Ladies and Blanketeers were busy and lovingly making “hugs” for at risk children! At last count, we had another

269+ blankets to turn in at the December Project Linus meeting in Macon! BRAVO LADIES!!!

December 2015 - Wagon Masters Gene & Sylvia Drumm graciously hosted our Christmas Luncheon and Chapter

Meeting in the beautiful home in Dacula, GA on Thursday, December 10th.

. We had an excellent turn-out with a total on

28 members present. The day was filled with fun, fellowship and PLENTY of good food! The ornament exchange game

was a hit, and as expected it was played with MUCH laughter and good-natured thievery

January 2016 - Wagon Master Betty Winn hosted our Luncheon/meeting on Thursday, January 14th at Olive Garden in

McDonough, GA. We had a GREAT turnout with a total of 17 Chapter Members! What an awesome start to the New

Year, good food and great fellowship! Looks like 2016 is off to a FABULOUS start!

Page 8: Of the GA-GOOD SAM NEWS€¦ · In November, we had a wonderful camping trip to Cedar Creek Campground in Cave Springs, GA. We had a great time at the Cookie Walk in Cave Springs

Chapter 27 – Coastal Sams

In early December we gathered for a holiday week-end at the KOA in Richmond Hill. Coastal Sams combines November

and December campouts since our regular campout week-ends would be near Thanksgiving and Christmas. We had

fifteen member rigs present and two additional ones as guests (who subsequently officially joined our chapter). Three

other couples who lived nearby joined us for our festivities. We had the usual scrumptious food and one of “Dirty

Santa’s” helpers was there to guide us in our gift swap. This always proves to be a fun time since the gifts are such

treasures! We chose for our charitable giving this Christmas, instead of bringing various toys for unknown children, that

we would pool our funds and send to Treutlen House, a residential ministry for young boys in crisis, in our area. A

portion of their Mission Statement reads: “The Treutlen House at New Ebenezer is a community-based, ecumenical

ministry for children and families who are dealing with personal crisis and are seeking assistance to improve their

current situation. Treutlen House will provide a professionally administered continuum of preventive and therapeutic

services to children and their families. These services will include family preservation, alternative family placement, or

independent living. The Treutlen House is organized as a non-profit entity.” We are so happy to help make a brighter

Christmas for these young boys. Our first pictorial directory was distributed at our business meeting, and officers for the

following year were approved. For the first time in many years we will be utilizing wagon masters to select campgrounds

for 2016. We are very appreciative that two of our very reliable men stepped up and assumed this responsibility. They

have selected some campgrounds that we have not visited as a group, and we look forward to these new adventures. This

December campout was a great way to begin our Christmas celebrations.

In January we journeyed to “sunny” Florida. And although the weather was not the unseasonable warmth that we

experienced over Christmas, we still had a great time. We visited Stage Coast RV at Saint Augustine, located near

Camping World, a shopping mall, and many eating establishments. They put out their “No Vacancy” sign while we were

there. We were fortunate to be able to take the Holly Jolly Night of Lights tour on it’s very last night of the 2015

Christmas season. Saint Augustine has been included in the ten top light exhibits in the nation. And even though our folks

were “layered and gloved, and blanketed”, they were happy that they took part. Our hosts treated us for an ice cream

social and in spite of the cold weather, the warmth of our friendship made up the difference. Several of our brave souls

began the week-end with an excursion on a pontoon boat, which they enjoyed immensely, but were so glad that they

carried that extra coat. Some of our ladies visited a farmers market and brought home a variety of winter veggies. And, of

course, the nearby shopping malls had to be visited also. All in all, it was a very good campout in spite of the cold, windy

weather!

Page 9: Of the GA-GOOD SAM NEWS€¦ · In November, we had a wonderful camping trip to Cedar Creek Campground in Cave Springs, GA. We had a great time at the Cookie Walk in Cave Springs

Chapter 32 – Columbus Round Tuits

October – A large number of Round Tuits gathered to camp and enjoy the annual Oktoberfest at Uchee Creek Army

Campground and Marina. This German festival is sponsored by Fort Benning, Georgia’s MWR and has become an

annual camping event for our chapter. The food, music, games and children’s area are extremely popular with the

community. President, Loren Kirtley and his lovely wife, Jean, enjoyed celebrating in appropriate costumes. Thursday

evening everyone enjoyed a hot dog and chili dinner provided by Loren and Jean. Admission to the Oktoberfest events on

Friday and Saturday was free. Did I mention the food?

November – We arrived at Uchee Creek Army Campground and Marina on Wednesday to prepare for our annual covered

dish Thanksgiving Dinner on Friday evening. Wagon Masters were Al and Margrit Miller. The chapter furnished turkeys

and ham and families brought delicious vegetables, salads, sauces, cornbread dressing and gravy, and so many home-

made desserts. After dinner we had our annual meeting where officers for 2016 were elected and the 2016 camping

schedule was discussed. We enjoyed the left-overs as an encore dinner of good food Saturday evening. While camping,

members visited the Infantry Museum, shopped and watched Airborne student Soldiers drop out of perfectly good

airplanes and land safely on the ground. It was our best attended campout of the year and a Thanksgiving blessing to

December – The Round Tuits didn’t camp in December, but we gathered for dinner and to celebrate the season. This year

we had dinner at the Hibachi Grill and Buffet in Columbus. After dinner, we had a brief meeting to finalize the 2016

camping schedule. Outgoing President Loren and Jean were recognized for their leadership contributions to our chapter

over the past several years. The evening concluded with a fun game of “Dirty Santa.”

January – There was no camping scheduled for January. We had lunch and a member meeting on a cold and windy day;

however, the friendship was warm and welcoming. We look forward to camping in February at the Pine Mountain RV

Resort.
