PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
The focus of our Club Assembly was the new Rotary year with Rotary International President Ravi
Ravindran from Sri Lanka. Ravi has chosen as his theme “Be a Gift to the World” with a lovely colourful
logo. Our District Governor is Anne Egan, a family lawyer from Murwillumbah.
President Elect Lea announced her goals for the year and committee chairs outlined their plans for their
various areas of responsibility. Lea wants to see every member involved in a committee and engaged in
club activities.
Andrew will show us how to use Club Runner on another occasion.
We were pleased to welcome again David Catchpole from Hobart and Ian Craig. Ian is interested in
joining Southport Rotary and Allan is following up with him.
Our Rotaryanns are having their Changeover on Thursday evening at Ashmore Steak and Seafood at 6.30
pm. Ann Penfold is handing the reins over to Ev Scotte for this next Rotary year. I thank Ann for
organizing great gettogethers for our Rotaryanns this past year.
If anyone is interested in playing in the Hope Island Charity Golf Day on Friday July 17, please let
Graham Jones know. It is a great day and helps raise money for the GC Suns Horizons programme as
well as other charities. See details in this Rotator.
Southport Rotaract had their Changeover last Saturday night and their new President is Mohit Tolani,
who is in his 4th
year at Griffith’s Dental School. Mohit is also President of the Australian Dental
Students Association and will provide excellent leadership of our Southport Rotaract Club. Troy, Kiarah
and Lachlan have continuing leadership roles as well so the Club is in good hands. We look forward to
having them join us soon.
Note in your diaries, Tuesday August 25 for our 70th
Anniversary dinner. I welcome help to compile a
list so we can make sure we invite as many people as possible who have been involved in Southport
Rotary over its 70 years. District Governor Anne Egan will join us for our 70th
Anniversary Dinner
celebration.
Next week we have our Changeover Dinner when Lea and her Board are inducted. I look forward to
welcoming everyone and their partners. Be sure to let Lea know so we have correct numbers.
See the flyers for both these events in The Rotator.

John's anecdotes on the ups and downs of
business are hilarious. He is an off-the-cuff,
straightforward speaker with enormous knowledge

dealings with many other business ventures. He
returned 5 times the money original investors made
in Drizabone through innovative marketing and
strategic business decisions.

Lambert W Logo for the year Thoughts for the week. The 16 year old daughter brought her new boyfriend home to meet the parents. He had long uncombed hair was covered in tattoos and had multiple body piercings. The mother was concerned and calling her daughter aside asked her if she thought he was really a nice boy as she had told them. “ He must be good mum. He does 40 hours community service every week!” Interviewer to Millionaire: To whom do you owe your success as a millionaire?” Millionaire: “I owe everything to my wife.”
Interviewer: “Wow, she must be some woman. What were you before you married her?”
Millionaire: “A Billionaire”
When the store manager returned from lunch, he noticed his clerk's hand was bandaged, but before he could ask about the bandage, the clerk said he had some very good news for him. "Guess what, sir?" the clerk said. "I finally sold that terrible, ugly suit we've had so long!" "Do you mean that repulsive pink-and-blue double-breasted thing?" the manager asked.
"That's the one!" "That's great!" the manager cried, "I thought we'd never get rid of that monstrosity! That had to be the ugliest suit we've ever had! But tell me. Why is your hand bandaged?" "Oh," the clerk replied, "after I sold the guy that suit, his guide dog bit me."
At 7 AM, a lone wife hears a key in the front door. She wanders down, bleary eyed, to find her husband
in the kitchen – drunk, with ruffled hair and lipstick on his collar.
"I assume," she snarls, "that there is a very good reason for you to come waltzing in here at seven in
the morning?"
"There is," he replies. ‘Breakfast’.
There was an old man in a hearse,
Who murmured, "This might have been worse;
Of course the expense
Is simply immense,
But it doesn't come out of my purse."
Did you hear that the Post Office has had to recall their latest stamps? They had pictures of NSW players on them. People couldn't figure out which side to spit on Victorians mate. Surely you know that NSW only exists as a barrier to slow the migration of fogeys from Victoria to QLD?
