Marketing For Law Firms In The Social Media Age

Marketing for law firms has changed drastically in the past 10-15 years. The avenues to reach

potential clients are so much more than the back of the phone book. Today, in addition to business

cards and networking events, social media has kicked off a new and faster way to reach more

people.

Many attorneys have taken a page from other professionals and created websites that are

interactive and designed to give the prospective client an outlook on the legal process and/or more

information about legal issues, litigation, outcomes, etc. Attorneys are now using Facebook,

Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, YouTube and many other sites to engage with potential

clients.

One of the reasons social media is so important is because it allows attorneys to use educational

based marketing to target their ideal client. For example, educational videos on YouTube can allow

a client to learn more about their situation and educate themselves on some of the crucial issues

surrounding their matter. Add to this, a properly done video can allow a client to also see who you

are as an attorney and build a level of trust with the attorney before even picking up the phone to

call the attorney’s office.

Lastly, social media can allow attorneys to reach more potential clients in a day than by say, passing

out business cards in the same time frame. Attorneys who have mastered marketing on sites such

as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, etc...can reach hundreds, if not thousands, of potential clients each

day.

Was Your Knee Replacement Surgery Even Appropriate?

Each year hundreds of thousands of Americans fight with the decision of

whether they should do something about their aging knees and the pain

associated with them. Is surgery the answer or is it better to just stick it out?

According to this CNN Health article, 1/3 of knee replacement surgeries are

actually questionable and not “appropriate based on standard medical

procedure.” The article followed the findings of researchers at Virginia

Commonwealth University.

The article states, “The study authors analyzed 175 cases, looking at imaging

tests to find the degree of arthritis, as well as each patient’s age and reported

pain level. Only 44% of the operations were rated “appropriate.” Thirty-four

percent were “inappropriate,” while 22% were inconclusive.”

Whether the surgery is actually appropriate can be a tricky thing and is

ultimately left up to the doctor. In the article a doctor states, “When the

current criteria were developed in the late 1990s, knee replacement “was

considered a treatment of last resort…Today, many are being done in

relatively healthy people in their 50s and 60s.”

The thing is however, surgery is a serious event. Any time a patient goes

under the knife there are risks associated with the procedure. For example,

developing an infection is a serious risk of a surgery, as well as other

associated risks with a knee replacement.

Getting answers to the hard questions from your doctor is one of the main

ways to ensure that you are making the right decision regarding your health.

A BLG Fan’s Take On X-Man

X-Men: Days of Future Past was a good watch

with many strengths and weaknesses. Luckily,

the positives and negatives cancel each other out

to make a pretty decent movie. Its strong points,

in my opinion, were definitely the beginning

scenes.

The beginning was a powerful way to introduce

viewers to characters like Warpath, Blink, Kitty

Pryde, and many others. The use of teamwork

and the showing off of each mutant’s powers

and abilities makes this movie awesome. The

only thing is I wish there would have been more

of it. In the beginning, the directors give the

viewers this action. However, as the movie pro-

gresses, it becomes about the squabbling be-

tween three old friends. You can guess who I am

referring to (Charles Xavier, Erik Lehnsherr/

Magneto, and Raven/Mystique).

If you are looking for X-MEN ACTION (as in

the whole team), there is not a whole lot of it in

the movie so I would hold off until redbox or

Netflix. As always though, to each his own.

“Instinct: The Power to Unleash Your Inborn Drive” by Bishop TD Jakes

A few months ago the internet was rocked with a simple story told by

Bishop TD Jakes on whether it is a good idea for “giraffes” to allow “turtles” to

dictate to the giraffe the giraffe's direction in life?

Seems many people have found the book very useful as its Amazon.com book

rating is holding strong at 4.5 out of 5 with 158 customer reviews.

HE SAID/SHE SAID

This month’s he said/she said is the

African American Civil War Museum on

Vermont Ave. in Washington, DC.

He Said

My parents were in town for the 4th of July Holiday

weekend and my dad suggested that we visit the

African American Civil War Museum. Boy was I glad

we visited. There is just so much history here and our

tour guides were very knowledgeable about the

important roles Blacks played in this historic event.

To get the best out of the museum, block off some

time so that you can have an opportunity to read the

displays. There is a lot more history here than is taught

in most school books.

She Said

I have seen the signs for the museum but had never

visited. The extinct of my African American Civil War

knowledge was limited to public school and the movie

‘Glory.’ It was refreshing to find out that Black people were

far more involved than we are taught through history

books.

The history of the United States needs to be told from the

perspective of all Americans not just some.

Why Volunteering Is So Important With The Elderly

Research has shown that for older adults, volunteering can be an important

mechanism for meeting new people and extending connections. Whilst there

are undoubtedly many social opportunities for older people in which they

can interact, volunteering is able to provide a much broader and more

diverse network of interactions than other types of social activities.

Volunteers make contacts with people on a number of different levels, as

they are able to make social ties with: other volunteers with any clients they may serve with the staff of host

organizations for which they volunteer (Lee, 2008). One of the other positive benefits of volunteering is that

there is also scope for older people to engage in physical activities, to experience themselves in productive roles

and to increase social contacts.
