Sanremo Junior – About the Competition
An international children’s song com-petition with live orchestra accom-paniment for solo singers aged 6-15 years (pop, rock, jazz, folk, classical).
One of the most prestigious interna-
tional competitions for young singers
aged 6-15 years, who will perform a
song of their choice with the accompa-
niment of a 37-member live orchestra
to compete with singers from other
countries. The Sanremo Junior com-
petition is organised by Kismet, a com-
pany known all over the world through
GEF – the World Creativity Festival in
Schools. In 2018, Kismet organised the
ninth edition of this international solo
singer competition, emphasising the
dissemination of music and singing
among young individuals and trying to
give them an opportunity to perform
for music experts in an internation-
al and multi-ethnic environment. The
appearance of the young competitors
with a live orchestra is a unique oppor-
tunity worldwide. The grand finale is
held every year in the famous Ariston
Theatre in the city of Sanremo, Italy.
This year‘s competition was held on
16-21 April 2018. For more information,
please visit www.sanremojunior.it.
The Czech Republic participated for the
first time in 2016, represented by the
highly gifted 11-year-old singer Kristýna
Petráková, who received a special jury
award for her performance.
The representative of the Czech Repub-
lic in 2017 was Nela Duchačová (11),
who finished second in her category.
The Slovak Republic was represented
by Adriana Habrdová (13).
In 2018, the Slovak representative Mar-
garéta Ondrejková won 1st prize, finish-
ing right after the absolute winner of
the competition from Belarus.
The representative of the Czech Repub-
lic, Sofie Fiurášková, received a special
jury award for her performance.

Sanremo Junior – Previous Competitions
In 2016, the Czech Republic for the
first time sent its representative to
the international Sanremo Jun-
ior song competition, held in the
spa town of Sanremo in Liguria.
The representative was the very
gifted 11-year-old Kristýna Petrák-
ová. During the event, the eve-
nings in Sanremo were enlivened
with the sounds of a symphony
orchestra accompanying young
singers from all over the world on
the competition stage. The sing-
ers came from countries such as
the USA, Argentina, South Africa,
Israel, Paraguay, France, Malta and
many more. Kiki Petráková sang a
song by the Icelandic singer Björk
“It’s Oh So Quiet”, receiving the
special award of the jury for her
performance. Kristýna Petráková
has continued her promising ca-
reer at many more concerts, for
example with Jitka Zelenková, Le-
ona Machálková, Pavel Vítek and
Karel Vlach Big Band, and above
all on the musical stage, where
she performs the main children’s
role in Soap Prince and earned
the main role in the world musical
Shrek. In 2018, she will release her
first CD My Journey to the Stars
and is involved in many other ar-
tistic activities.
In 2017, the Czech Republic was
also joined by Slovakia at the
event. At the final gala of Sanre-
mo Junior CR/SR on 22 February
2017 in the Hybernia Theatre, Nela
Duchačová (11) was selected by
the professional jury as the rep-
resentative of the Czech Republic
for the international competition.
Accompanied by the Bon Art Pops
Orchestra, she sang “Let it Go”
from the film Frozen. She sang the
same song as the representative
of the Czech Republic at the inter-
national finals with the Sanremo
Orchestra.
The Slovak Republic was repre-
sented at the grand finale in San-
remo by Adriana Habrdová (13)
with the song “An Angel” by the
The Kelly Family. The 2017 inter-
national finals featured 24 solo
singers from 18 countries. Nela
ranked 2nd in her category, which
was a great success. Lizi Tsereteli
of Georgia finished in first place
and was also the overall winner of
the competition.
The other countries participating
in the 2017 Sanremo Junior festi-
val included France, Greece, Italy,
Hungary, the Philippines, Indone-
sia, Malta, Seychelles, Bulgaria and
Kazakhstan.
On the basis of this success, Nela
received a scholarship to the pres-
tigious Canadian School, which
she now attends, and has ap-
peared at many grand concerts
and galas since, for example with
Leona Machálková, Radim Schwab
and others. She continues with
her singing and dancing and is
preparing her first CD. Adriana
Habrdová has also released her
first CD and continues to pursue
her dream of success by becom-
ing a successful singer, including
participation in the Czech-Slovak
Superstar, where she attracted the
attention of the whole jury with
her excellent singing technique at
such a young age.

decký, Dan McCafferty (Nazareth), Jaroslav Svěcený,
Michaela Gemrotová, Radim Schwab and many more.
A total of 10 singers from the Czech Republic and 3

of them then underwent intense 6-month preparation
for the demanding gala and indeed proved their art
not only with their singing technique but also through
their cooperation with the orchestra, the conductor
and their brave appearance on the big stage. Emphasis
was also placed on their behaviour and communica-
tion off stage.

Offer of Cooperation
Sanremo Junior 2018, World Finals – ItalyThe Czech Republic participated in the internation-
al Sanremo Junior song competition for a third time
in 2018, the Slovak Republic for the second time. The
competition was held in the spa town of Sanremo in
Liguria on 16-21 April 2018. At the final gala of the San-
remo Junior CZ/SK held in the Hybernia Theatre on 21
February 2018, the professional jury selected 14-year-
old Sofie Fiurášková, who appeared with the song
“Because of You” by Kelly Clarkson accompanied by
the Bon Art Pops Orchestra. She represented the Czech
Republic with the same song at the world grand fina-
le accompanied by the Sanremo Orchestra. The Slo-
vak Republic was represented at the world finals by
14-year-old Margaréta Ondrejková with the song “Be-
fore He Cheats” by Carrie Underwood.
In the course of the week, both competitors had sev-
eral orchestra rehearsals and on Wednesday, 18 April
2018 they appeared in the Ariston Theatre at the of-
ficial world finals. For the rest of the week, both Sofie
and Margaréta represented the Czech and Slovak re-
publics at the GEF World School Festival of Creativity.
The two competitors earned two fantastic prizes and
great success in the finals. Margaréta received 1st prize right after the singer from Belarus, who became the
absolute winner of the competition. Sofie received the
“Special Jury Award” for her performance. After last
year’s competition, where Nela Duchačová received
the 2nd prize in her category, we advanced a little high-
er this year to prove that talent from the Czech and
Slovak republics can easily compete and succeed with
the best in the world. They only need a little help.
The international finals featured representatives from
16 countries, who advanced to the selection from the
original 35 countries and were heard by the interna-
tional festival jury at the world Grand Finale. The oth-
er countries participating in Sanremo Junior this year
included, for example, the USA, Panama, Italy, the
Ukraine, Malta, Kazakhstan and Sweden.

Offer of Cooperation
A Word from the Artistic Director of the Competition Dear Partners,
We would like to address you with our offer of cooperation on
the organisation of the children’s singing competition for jun-
ior artists from 6 to 15 years of age, the Sanremo Junior CZ/SK.
Another competition has just ended and we can boast of
very positive results. In the previous years were received
one jury award and one second prize. This year was
more than successful for us, although we do not want
to rest on our laurels and are aiming for the top ranks, for
the quality of our young singers is truly comparable to the
global community. We received first prize in the top age
category of children up to the age of 15 and one jury award.
It is not that there is a lack of competitions of this kind on
our market, but none of them has ever been able to offer
anything that would help the young talents in their further
development. We have prepared a separate competition al-
lowing the children to personally try what their great idols
experience on stage in front of a big orchestra. None of the
competitions offer the chance to sing with a 50-piece or-chestra. The are many young talents appearing in musicals
and on theatre stages, but they do not have the chance to
sing under the spotlights of a large concert stage. And this is
what we want to offer them. This is the junior version of the
popular Sanremo festival. It has been a challenge for us and
we have another 3 years to prove that we are a good choice
for our Italian partner. It is not easy to choose 10 young
Czech and 3 Slovak singers, each of whom will travel to the
grand finale to represent their country.
As in previous years, we are preparing a continuation of our
Sanremo Junior CZ/SK 2018/2019 in an effort to support
young talents who might someday replace the current rep-
resentatives of the popular or classical music scenes. Past
experience shows that there are many children who want
to sing and possess the necessary talents and techniques.
Surprisingly enough, many music schools support these
children in their efforts. It is probably a rare phenomenon
on the global scale to see music schools supported by the
state that work like this. The 2017 finals showed that these
children were not afraid to appear in front of a big sympho-
ny orchestra and sing a complex composition in English.
The finals featured 13 competitors from the Czech Repub-
lic, with the Czech finalist of 2016/2017, Kristýna Petráková,
and the finalist of the Slovak Sanremo Junior 2017, Adriana
Habrdová, as guests. All children had undergone demanding
preparation for the finals. The winner was 11-year-old Nela
Duchačová with the song “Let it Go”. She also appeared at
the world finals in Sanremo, Italy.
The finals featured 18 children from 24 countries around
the world. Our representative ranked second in her catego-
ry, right after the absolute winner of the competition. This
is of course a great success and motivation for all future
competitors. For us it is a great commitment to maintain
the high level set by this year’s competition. This year (2018)
the Czech Republic was represented by Sofie Fiurášková and
Slovakia by Margaréta Ondrejková. Sofie was already in the
narrow selection in 2016 but finally finished right below the
top ten. She worked hard and advanced to the top ten in
2017-18. She won the Czech finals and was selected to rep-
resent the Czech Republic in Italy. There she received the
fantastic jury award. The Slovak representative, Margaré-
ta Ondrejková, won her category in Italy. This represents a
great commitment for the following years for us. We have
managed to establish cooperation with the Maltese and the
Italian national part of this competition and thus we can
send the winners to the Maltese finals in 2019 as guests. That
will certainly be very motivating for their further develop-
ment and we hope also for our new competitors. We want
to help young performers attend, for example, the children’s
Eurosong competition in the future.
We would greatly appreciate if you could help develop
Czech culture and contribute to this unique project. As with
all competitions, this one is also very financially demanding.
With your help we can let the young singers try everything,
and maybe make them known and open the doors for them
to theatres, TV or national and maybe even international ra-
dio. We know our goals are demanding, but without them
no great things can be achieved. At present, the whole bur-
den is carried by their parents, who often sacrifice funds that
are unfathomable for many of us. We are glad that at least
parents take such great care of the artistic development of
their children. It should also be in our interest to make our
country a high-culture country producing many new Karel
Gotts, Lucie Bílás, Helena Vondráčkovás and Michal Davids.
Every country has a population it has raised on its own. We
would like to contribute to renewing the reputation of our
country as one with excellent singers, composers and solo
artists. This may be one of the means to this end.
It is up to you whether you decide to help pave the way for
our young talented children to not only the national but also
the international scene.
Ing. Richard Liegert

Ladies and Gentlemen,
Allow me to address you with a special
offer of cooperation on the project enti-
tled “Sanremo Junior Czech Republic &
Slovakia”.
Sanremo Junior is an international chil-
dren’s singing competition featuring live
orchestra accompaniment for solo sing-
ers aged 6-15 (pop, rock, jazz, folk, clas-
sical).
Auditions were announced in May 2018
for the Czech and Slovak republics for the
2018/2019 competition.
The soloists are given a chance here to
compete in the national finals held with
the accompaniment of the Bon Art Pops
Orchestra at the Hybernia Theatre.
The Bon Art Pops Orchestra, an exclusive-
ly female orchestra, has already accom-
panied stars like Miro Žbirka, Chinaski, Da-
vid Koller, Marek Ztracený, Michal Hrůza,
Janek Ledecký, Dan McCafferty (Naza-
reth), Jaroslav Svěcený, Michaela Gemr-
otová, Radim Schwab and many more.
A maximum 10 singers from the Czech
Republic and 5 from the Slovak Republic
will advance to the national finale held
at the Hybernia Theatre on 20 February
2019, where the young singers will pres-
ent not only their singing art but also their
skills of cooperation with the orchestra
and the conductor and their courage to
appear on a big stage. Emphasis will also
be placed on off-stage conduct. All the fi-
nalists will undergo a special preparatory
course for the big finale.
A professional jury will then select one
Czech and one Slovak representative
from the national finals.
The two finalists will receive special in-
tensive training provided by the Bon Art
Music, SE for future personalities of the art
scene, whether singers or musical stars.
They will rehearse with a big orchestra,
record in a studio, prepare choreography,
learn to communicate with (not only) the
media and finally travel to the spa town
of Sanremo for a week to compete with
the finalists from the other participating
countries.

Increasing interest in con-
certs where popular sin-
gers are accompanied by
a big orchestra led to the
foundation of an ensemble
able to perform various ge-
nres on the top level as brought about by
the dramaturgy of the concerts organised
by Bon Art Music, SE.
The concerts held by this agency inten-
tionally combine opera scenes, sympho-
nic and chamber music with jazz, swing,
rock and pop. This places great demands
on the individual orchestra players, which
is why the BAPO is made up of excellent
musicians meeting the performing stan-
dards required by the different parts.
After years of staffing the orchestra with
both male and female performers, we
decided in 2014 to make the ensemble a
female orchestra.
At the final gala of the Sanremo Juni-or Czech Republic & Slovakia, the or-chestra will perform as a big band with woodwind, complete string and exten-ded percussion sections.
The ladies have performed very well, and
that is why we wish to continue in this
trend and engage female performers for
the purpose of concerts as well as recor-
ding sessions. Depending on its size, the
orchestra changes names: Bon Art Pops
Orchestra, Bon Art Chamber Orchestra or
Bon Art Symphony Orchestra.
The response suggests that we have set
out on the right path. We have changed
the perception in this country that wo-
men do not play the trumpet or trombo-
ne. We were surprised ourselves by how
many women are able to perform the de-
manding solo parts in big band composi-
tions with great skill.
