Objectives

• Differentiate among the three methods of copying objects between applications

• Link an Excel worksheet and chart to a Word document

• Edit a linked Excel workbook

• Save and access an Office document using a discussion server


Opening a Word Document and an Excel Workbook• Open the Weekly Sales Memorandum

Word document, which is located on your Data Disk

• If necessary, click the Normal View button in the lower-left corner of the screen

• Click the blank line at the bottom of the document

• Open the Weekly Sales Summary Excel file, which is located on your Data Disk


Linking an Excel Worksheet and Chart to a Word Document• With the Excel window active, select the

range A1:G28 on the Weekly Sales Summary sheet

• Click the Copy button to copy the selected range to the Office Clipboard

• Click the Weekly Sales Memorandum program button on the Windows taskbar to activate the Word window

• Click Edit on the menu bar

• When the paste Special dialog box appears, click Paste link in the Source area, and then click Microsoft Office Excel Worksheet Object in the As list

• Click the OK button

Printing and Saving the Word Document with the Linked Worksheet and Chart

• With the Word window active, click the Print button on the Standard toolbar

• Click File on the menu bar and then click Save As

• Type Weekly Sales Memorandum 12-19-2005 in the File name text box

• Click the Save button



• Right-click the Excel program button on the Windows taskbar and then click Close on the shortcut menu

• When Excel displays the Microsoft Excel dialog box, click the No button

• Right-click the Word program button on the Windows taskbar and then click Close on the shortcut menu


Editing the Linked Worksheet

• Start Excel and open the Weekly Sales Summary workbook located on the Data Disk in drive A

• When Excel displays the Weekly Sales Summary workbook, click cell E7 and then enter 500000 as the new value for the Telesales unit in Detroit

• Click the Save button on the Standard toolbar and then click the Close button on the right side of the Excel title bar



• Start Word and open the Weekly Sales Memorandum 12-19-2005 document located on the Data Disk in drive A

• When the Microsoft Office Word dialog box appears, click the Yes button to update links

• Click the Close button on the right side of the Word title bar

• When the Microsoft Office Word dialog box appears, click the No button

• Click File on the menu bar• Click Save as Web Page on the File menu• When Word displays the Save As dialog box,

click the Save as type box arrow, and then click Single File Web Page

• Click the My Network Places button in the lower-left corner of the Save As dialog box

use• Click the folder to which you plan to save the

Web page• Click the Save button in the Save As dialog box

and then click the Close button on the right side of the Word title bar

• Click the Discuss button on the Standard Buttons toolbar

Discussions toolbar, click the Insert Discussion about this Document button on the Web Discussions toolbar

• When the browser displays the Enter Discussion Text dialog box, enter the discussion subject and discussion text as shown on the following slide

• Click the OK button

Replying to a Comment on a Discussion Server• With the comment in the Discussion pane,

click the Show a menu of actions button that appears after the comment

• Click Reply on the shortcut menu

• When the browser displays the Enter Discussion Text dialog box, enter the discussion text as shown on the following slide

• Right-click the Discussion pane and then click the Print command on the shortcut menu to print the comments

• Click the Discuss button on the Standard Buttons toolbar
