General considerations

All slides in this brochure are tested according to applicable ANSI/BIFMA specifications for at least 50.000 cycles with the nominal load capacitiesin solid wood applications. However, BIFMA only refers to complete furniture, so that its important to review the actual application with respect tothe installation conditions. Therefore a test in the actual application is always recommended. Furthermore the following points have to be consideredfor reaching the nominal load capacity: The indicated load ratings are based on a dynamic cycle test with a 450mm (18) long slide as per BIFMA.All other lengths might have slightly decreased load ratings. The installation width (clear space between cabinet and drawer) must be at least thedimension indicated in the cross section pictures. The general tolerance for the installation width is +0.75mm (+1/16). This dimension and theaccurate parallel assembly are essential for the smooth running of our slides. All main hole positions have to be used for fixing. For KA3432, 5632,4932 and 4620 it is recommended to use Euro screws on the cabinet side, which ensures a tight fit and an optimal distribution of forces. Avoid usingscrews with much smaller diameter than the fixing hole! This will cause unpredictable movement of the slides, what may cause early failure of theslide or worn-out holes in the cabinet wall. Customized metal applications have to be reviewed carefully in regards to the geometry and the positionof bayonets. Metal cabinets often have less stability, thus more stress on the slides is generated. A test in these applications is strongly recommended.If you have questions in regards to the optimal usage of our slides, please contact your Hettich partner. Our R&D team will give you the neededsupport for your applications.

applicability, fast and easy assembly, simple to

All Intermat hinges feature ergonomical

snap-on assembly. This means no tools are

needed for mounting doors. Simple assembly:

Attach the hinge by pressing lightly on the

hinge arm. Theres an audible click as the

hinge engages precisely with the mounting

plate. Simple disassembly: Unclip the hinge

by pressing lightly on the release latch. Its a

real benefit when people are moving house.

The release latch is concealed under the hinge

arm, so it cant be activated accidentally, eg,

while cleaning.

Mounting options:There are three basic methods for mounting doors.

Minimum door reveal:

The reveal, also called door deflection, is the space required for opening a door.The amount of reveal depends on the cup distance C, the door thickness and the hingetype. Chamfered door edges reduce the reveal.The required minimum reveal can be read from the table given for each hinge type.For half overlay configurations, the total reveal between the doors must be at leasttwice the door reveal. Both doors can then be opened at the same time.

Inset:

In this configuration, the door is positionedinside the side wall of the cabinet. A revealis required for opening the door.This configu ration necessitates the use ofheavily cranked hinges.

Half overlay:

In this configuration, two doors arepositioned in front of the middle wall ofa cabinet. The distance between the doorsis the total required reveal.The reduced door overlay necessitates theuse of cranked hinges.

Full overlay:

In this configuration, the door is positionedin front of a side wall of the cabinet.The reveal at one side is such that the doorcan be opened safely.

Number of hinges per door:Door width, door height, door weight and doormaterial are the key factors for determining therequired number of hinges.In practice, these factors are very variable.The numbers listed in the diagram are forreference only. A trial mounting is recommendedif in doubt.Maximum stability is obtained by choosing thedistance between hinges as large as possible.X = distance between two hinges(reference values for 19 mm thick chipboard witha density of 750 kg/m3)

Cup distance C:The cup distance C is the distance between the edge ofthe door and the edge of the cup hole. The maximum cupdistance depends on the kinematics of the hinge inquestion. The larger the cup distance, the smaller therequired minimum reveal.

Door overlay:The door overlay is the distance that the door extendsover the front edge of the side panel.

Reveal F:The reveal F is the distance between the outer edgeof the door and the outer edge of the side panel(full overlay), the distance between two doors(half overlay), the distance between the outer edgeof the door and the inner side panel (inset).

New generation Intermat hinges are equipped with an eccentric screw for fast and simple doordepth adjustment.

The constrained cam screw is simply turned slightly until the door is correctly positioned.

Screws do not first have to be loosened and then retightened.

The same adjustment procedure is also available on mounting plates.

Height adjustment is also be performed directly without first loosening and thenretightening screws.

In both cases, ease of handling and time savings are measurable and immediate.

Snap-on assembly, disassembly:Characteristic for Intermat hinges is the ergonomical snap-onassembly. The hinge is slipped into the front of the mountingplate (1), then light finger pressure latches the hinge arm ontothe mounting plate with an audible click (2).

The hinge arm is now securely clamped, via five points, withoutany play.

Doors are clipped on, zipper style, from top to bottom - once thetop hinge is in position, it takes part of the door weight.

Disassembly is in the opposite direction from bottom to top.

The hinges are unlatched by pressing lightly on latch (1) whichfor safety reasons is concealed under the side arm.

One movement lifts the hinge arms off the mounting plates (2)and the door is removed from the cabinet (3).

Distance D:Mounting plates are available in various thicknesses with aneffective height characterized by the value of the distance D.Starting point for calculating the required distance is the selectedhinge with defined door overlay.Using planned cup distance and door thickness, first read therequired reveal value from the table. If this value is too largefor the desired overlay, it can be reduced, either by increasingthe cup distance, or by chamfering the door edge.Then the mounting plate distance is determined using the relevanthinge cranking formula.

1. Table shows minimum reveal: 3,1 mm, ie, the total reveal should beat least 6,2 mm.But you want a total reveal of 5 mm. So increase the cup distance to5 mm and chamfer the door edges to a 1 mm radius.The table now shows a minimum reveal of 2,4 mm, giving a totalreveal of under 5 mm.

2. Door overlay = (side wall thickness - reveal) / 2 doors =(18 mm - 5 mm) / 2 = 6,5 mm

3. The formula for calculating the distance D for a hinge with 9,5 mmcranking:Distance D = cup distance C + 3,5 mm - overlay =

5 mm + 3,5 mm - 6,5 mm = 2 mmIf the calculated distance value is not listed, select the next smallerdistance.In this example, a distance of 1,5 mm is selected. The hinge isthen set at 0,5 mm using the side adjustment.
