Leah has been the welcoming face for many new children and their families. Her commitment to our youngest children and her genuine desire to meet their learning needs has been appreciated by all. We are advertising the permanent vacancy over the holiday period and are working to ensure we have plans in for the beginning of the year.

Jo Tebbs and Sarah Cooper complete their fixed term positions with us next week. Sarah joined us part way through Term 1 working alongside Jude Hampton to inspire learning for her students in the Room 9/10 learning hub. Jo joined us in a part-time capacity in Term 2 and then full-time in Term

3 working alongside Alastair Henshaw and Kate Hurley inspiring our Year 6 graduates in the Room 13/14/15 learning hub.

As previously notified, Sharon O’Meager leaves us after two years for St Xavier School in Tawa. Sharon’s strong commitment to learners was evident as she worked alongside Malcolm Howard this year to inspire learning across the R7/8 hub.

Year 6 graduates – This year we farewell 61 amazing young people who exemplify our Khandallah vision – “Inspiring Future Stars – Tātai ki te Rangi”. We have thoroughly enjoyed being part of their learning journey and know they will shine as Khandallah Stars as they embrace the many exciting opportunities the future holds. We also acknowledge their whānau for amazing support and valuable contributions to our school over the years.

Choir/Kapa Haka Performances On Thursday the 7th December the Khandallah School Choir performed at the Parent Helpers Morning Tea and then later at the Khandallah Village outside the Town Hall. The children performed beautifully. Many thanks to the parents who accompanied us. On Sunday morning the Khandallah Rotary held their annual Village Fair and our children were invited to perform again. The Kapa Haka group performed first. They were wonderful, then the Choir performed. The concert was very well received and we can all feel very proud of our children.

WOW - Walk or Wheel Congratulations Seb W and Maia H lucky winners of this term’s $20 Movie Pass prize draw! It’s great to see so many children continuing fabulous healthy habits and walking or wheeling to school.

Belle and the Beast Congratulations to the many talented Khandallah School students who performed in the Wellington Ballet School’s production of Belle and the Beast. Three shows were performed at the Lower Hutt Little Theatre on the 1st and 2nd of December. The story was cleverly told through skilful dancing and creative costumes. The audiences were treated to a wonderful display of both ballet and jazz dancing. Well Done! Looking forward to next year’s show.

The steps at 31 Woodmancote Rd….

Did you know the steps belonging to 31 Woodmancote Rd, which the children of Khandallah School use everyday have a very special story?

Last week we went and interviewed Loretta Lander. Loretta kindly let us use the steps for the Kids’ Kaukau Challenge and told as about the history of them.

Originally Loretta’s parents owned the property of 31 Woodmancote Rd and Loretta went to Khandallah School from 1946 to 1954. There was a gate in her backyard straight up to the school! This is the house she grew up in (now number 31A Woodmancote Rd - the school is in the background). Hamilton Dickson, (Loretta’s dad) built the stairs in the 1960’s when he decided to build another house on the property. This is now the house Loretta lives in. He wanted 2 quick entrances and exits to and from the house, and also wanted to make a safe path for the children of Khandallah School to get to the top of

Woodmancote Rd instead of having to cross the road.

Loretta knows so much about Khandallah School and has even written an issue of the Onslow Historian. She is also a singing teacher.

Next time you use the steps, remember to say hi and thank you to Loretta and David who live at number 31 Woodmancote Rd.
