Message

It gives me immense pleasure to publish the Ri Bhoi DEF Magazine “Through the Lens” 2019. In the last one year Ri Bhoi Police had continuously put its tireless effort in maintaining public order and safety, enforcing the laws, preventing, detection and investigating criminal

activities and ensuring safety and security of VVIPs and VIPs. Beyond this an effort has been made to take proactive steps through community policing to involve the civil society and the public at large. Special focus has been laid for the role of VDP, Traditional Institutions etc in Society building and the importance of sensitizing the society through Street Play and Dramas and Awareness Programme on POCSO Act, Drug Abuse, J.J. Act, COTPA, Domestic Violence Act, Cyber Crime, Child Marriage, Road Safety, etc. The Ri-Bhoi District Police feels privileged to be able to lend out its helping hand to the people through a host of community policing activities that run throughout the year. All the challenges were met with the sincere and dedicated services of all ranks of Police personnel.

The activities and services of all ranks and files of the Police of the District will come within the purview of the Lens of the Magazine which would be an encouragement to the officers and men in uniform and would make them to work more diligently in providing service to the people of the District. I hope that the Magazine would provide an insight into the working of the Police and also its future programmes of working together with the general masses and deliver timely and effective services to the satisfaction of individual citizen and the community at large.

History

Ri-Bhoi DEF came into existence on 4th June 1992 with the up gradation of the Ri Bhoi Sub-Division into a full-

fledged District. The District with Nongpoh as its headquarter consist a total area of 2378 sq kms. The district was carved out from the erstwhile East Khasi Hills District and lies between North Latitudes 25 15’ and 26 15’ and between East Longitudes 91 45’ and 92 15’. The District shares its border with 4(four) District of Assam (Kamrup, Kamrup Metro, Marigoan and Karbi Anglong West) on the northern and eastern side, East Khasi Hills and West Jaintia Hills on the southern side and West Khasi Hills on the Western side. The important NH-6 which connects the Eastern range of the State passes through the district.

As part of the Republic Day celebration, the Office of the Superintendent of Police organized a Cricket Exhibition match at Sarikuchi village, Ri-Bhoi District between Ri-Bhoi Police Officers and other ranks where youths from the villages were included in both the teams. An appeal was made to the general public especially the youths to abstain themselves from drugs and other intoxicants and to be active in sports.
