Veterans’ Affairs Announcements
1. Veterans’ Independence Programme From 7 December 2015 Veterans” Affairs has some new ability and new funding to help eligible veterans. We are also making changes to the way in which we contract for service delivery which will enable us to provide more services, to more veterans. From 7 December 2015, the Veteran’s Independence Programme (VIP) comes into effect. This programme will bring together a number of current forms of support for veterans, with some new government funding and broader eligibility criteria. The objective of VIP is to support veterans to live independently in their home, based on need. It will cover such things as:
Lawns and gardens
House cleaning.
Gutters, windows and house washing
Home modifications, such as ramps.
Attendant care on a short term basis
Adaptive clothing and footwear.
Under the VIP, Veterans’ Affairs will be able to consider support for veterans who have qualifying service but do not have a service related injury or illness. A short needs assessment form has been developed to help identify veterans who may be eligible and benefit from this new, independence-based support programme.
2. The Travel Allowance and Recreational Travel Concession (RTC) This will also be available to qualifying Veterans under Veterans’ Independence Programme, however, you must be in receipt of a War Disability Pension (WDP) of 100% or greater, or a Disability Pension (DP) with accepted disabilities totaling 75% whole person impairment, or greater. The mileage rate is unchanged at 27 cents per km. For further information or clarification Veteran’s you may contact your Veterans’ Affairs Case Manager directly on 0800 483 8372, or email [email protected]. Alternatively, you may make an appointment through the Napier RSA Reception Telephone 0-6-835 7629, to discuss your circumstances and complete a “short needs assessment form” with one of our local Support Advisors – John Purcell, Tony Fraser or Mick Stutchbury
Presidents Report It has arrived, that once in a lifetime event has now occurred, 2016 is our 100th year since incorporation and you and the community of Napier are part of it, so, ‘Come Celebrate With Us’ You will all be aware that we have been organizing two major events to commemorate our centenary, the first being our National Lottery and secondly, the celebration dinner. I know a lot of marketing has gone on behind the scenes for both events and while there is more to come, nothing shows more support than you purchasing your Lottery ticket NOW. If all members brought 1 ticket each, the Trust would benefit by $35,000, yes of course you can buy another, perhaps even a third or fourth, there is no limit. Your children, grandchildren or even great grandchildren will benefit by this. Imagine the heart ache of having child who cannot reach their full potential due to your financial circumstance – we want to make a difference and you can help us. Apathy did not get us through the first hundred years and definitely will not advance us through the second, don’t sit on your hands, buy a ticket today, and perhaps another next week – Good Luck The RSA is also hosting two National Sporting events throughout the New Year, Indoor Bowls and Darts. The former will be hosted at an offsite venue and the Darts will be staged in-house during Queens Birthday weekend. Both RSA Adjuncts have an enormous reputation for hosting fantastic tournaments and we are expecting an unprecedented number of visitors to the Club during these events. There is no doubt that we had some difficult times last year. Our tangle with the Liquor Licensing Authority and the subsequent un-necessary publicity was certainly one of those moments that we want to put behind us. In spite of those ‘cloudy moments’ we have had a good trading year so far and with only 3 months to go before the end of the year we are looking at a small but creditable profit. I have always said anything above the line is an absolute bonus – so fingers are crossed for a successful ending to the 2015/16 fiscal year. The growth in the membership this year has been phenomenal with an average of 50 new members signing up each month for full membership. Visitors are also taking advantage of the ‘Provisional Membership’ and after the first months trial period expires, approximately 25% are joining the Club as full financial members - this is an excellent result. Planning is underway for the expansion to the Club, tentatively expected to start March/April. Like all renovations there will be some disruption to our business and access/egress may change on a regular basis depending on how the building progress’s. We will be open every day and ask that members continue to support us. Once design plans have been finalized we will be able to publish our expansion for the members to view and offer feedback. The design is expected to add approximately 120m2 floor space to the restaurant and Conference Room which will give us more opportunities to tap into new markets. J Purcell - QSM J.P. President

Somewhere in the picture of coffee beans is a man. See if you can find him.
This is bizarre - after
you find the guy - it's so
obvious. Once you find
him - it's embarrassing,
and you think, Why
didn't I see him
immediately?
Doctors have concluded
that if you find the man
in the coffee beans in 3
seconds, your right half
of your brain is better
developed than most
people. If you find the man between 3 seconds and 1 minute, your right half of the
brain is developed normally. If you find the man between 1 minute and 3 minutes, then
the right half of your brain is functioning slowly and you need to eat more protein. If
you have not found the man after 3 minutes, the advice is to look for more of this
type of exercise to make that part of the brain stronger!!!

Cheerio A 7 year old and a 4 year old are upstairs in their bedroom. You know what?, "says the 7 year old, "I think it's about time we started swearing." The 4 year old nods his head in approval. "When we go downstairs for breakfast I'm gonna say 'hell' and you say 'ass', O.K.?" "O.K." the 4 year old agrees with enthusiasm. The mother walks into the kitchen and asks the 7 year old what he wants for breakfast. "Aw, hell Mom, I guess I'll have some Cheerios." WHACK!! He flew out of his chair, tumbled across the kitchen floor, got up and ran upstairs crying his eyes out. She looked at the 4 year old and asked with a stern voice, "And what do YOU want for breakfast, young man?" "I don't know," he blubbers, "but you can bet your ass it won't be Cheerios."
Siren’s not working A fireman looked out of the firehouse window and noticed a little boy playing on the sidewalk. He had small ladders hung on the side of his little red wagon, and a garden hose coiled up in it. He was wearing a fireman's hat. He had the wagon tied to his dog, so that the dog could pull the wagon. The fireman thought this was really cute, so he went out and told the little boy what a great looking fire truck he had. As he did, he noticed that the dog was tied to the wagon by his testicles. The fireman said, "Son, I don't want to tell you how to run your fire company or anything, but I think if you would tie that rope around the dog's neck you would go faster." Maybe so," said the little boy, "but then I'd lose my siren!"
Sport of Kings A man has a racehorse, never won a race. Man in disgust says, "Horse, you win today
or you pull a milk wagon tomorrow morning." The starting gate opens, the horses take-off, they move the gate away and there lays his horse asleep on the track. He kicks the horse and asks, "Why are you sleeping?" The horse, half asleep says, "I have to get up at three in the morning."
The Goldberg Con (Air) The four Goldberg brothers, Lowell, Norman, Hiram and Max, invented and developed the first automobile air conditioner on the 17th July 1946. The four brothers walked into old Henry Fords’ office and sweet talked his secretary into telling him that four gentlemen were there with the most exciting innovation in the auto industry since the electric starter. Henry was curious and invited them into his office. They refused and instead asked that he come out to the parking lot to their car. They persuaded him to get into the car, which was about 130 degrees, turned on the Air Conditioning, and cooled the car down immediately. The old man got very excited and invited them back to his office where he offered the $3 million for the patent. The brothers refused saying they would settle for $2 million, but the wanted recognition by having ‘The Goldberg Air Conditioning’ on the dash board of each car in which it was installed. Now old man Ford was more than just a little anti jewish and there was no way he was going to put Golberg’s name on 2 million Fords They haggled back and forth for about 2 hours and finally agreed on 4 million and that just their first names would be shown. And so to this day, all Ford air conditioners show; Lo, Norm, Hi and Max on the controls
