Fitzpatrick announced today that an Onondaga County Grand Jury has determined that Police Officer David Craw acted properly within the scope of his duties and was justified in the shooting of Jeremy Jackson on November 19, 2015 at 1246 W. Belden Ave in Syracuse. The same Grand Jury returned an indictment against Jackson for a charge of Menacing a Police Officer, a class D felony. Jackson and co-defendant Khalil Dunaway were also indicted for Burglary in the First Degree, a class B violent felony as well as multiple counts of Robbery and weapons charges, which are also violent felonies. On November 19th at 10:36 PM, Officer Craw was responding to a “burglary in progress call” at 1246 W. Belden Ave, when he observed Jackson, wearing a mask, burst from the residence armed with a handgun. Officer Craw demanded Jackson to drop his weapon, however, Jackson refused to respond to his commands. Jackson was shot once by Craw, hitting him in the buttocks. Jackson’s loaded handgun was recovered near where he fell to the ground. Jackson was treated at Upstate Hospital and released to the Onondaga County Justice Center after two days, where he remains held on $200,000 cash or bond. A second, loaded handgun, believed to be left by a suspect, was recovered inside the residence. Dunaway was caught attempting to flee the scene, where he fought with police as they took him into custody. The police believe there were more individuals involved in this incident and the investigation is continuing. -end-
