‘ 2. Qualifications for awards.—Candidates must befrom the Niger Delta Special Area ; that is both orone of the parents must belong to that Area bybirth-:

(a) No candidate will be considered who doesnot produce satisfactory evidence of this ;

' (6) Candidates for University courses. areexpected to possess the necessary academicqualifications for direct entry to a University,that is, the usual pass in the appropriate subjectsat the G.C.E. Advanced Level, H.S.C.at PrincipalLevel or the equivalence of these. For theother courses, no candidate will be: consideredwho does not possess at least a Grade II WestAfrican School Certificate with Credit in Englishand 4 other subjects relevant to the proposedcourse of study.

3. Applications.—Applications must be submittedby candidates of either sex who must be under30 years of age by the 1st of January, 1966. Success-ful candidates will be required to pass a medicalexamination which should include an X-Ray and atuberculin test.

4. Place of study.—The majority of the awardswill be for courses now available either wholly or inpart in Institutions of higher learning in Nigeria orother countries. in West Africa. Prospectivecandidates must acquaint themselves with theconditions of entry into these Institutions and mustthemselves apply direct for admission to the Institu-tions of their choice. Candidates will be expectedto produce evidence of acceptance but no guaranteesof an award can be made to every applicant who hasbeen successful in obtaining admission to anyone ofthese Institutions.

2. Qualifications—Candidates must be fellows ofthe R.I.C.S. or 1.Q.S. and must have had aminimum of 10 years experiencein the full pre andpost contract services and office organisation.Previous experience in the tropics and in the trainingof indigenous staff would be an advantage.

3. Duties—The Chief Quantity Surveyor will beexpected to be able to take ‘control and build up acomplete Quantity Surveying Section within theWorks Division of the Ministry. He will, inaddition, be responsible for the costing ofall buildingprojects undertaken by the Ministry.

4, Salary—Group 5 (20 per cent Contract)£3,240 per annum.

5. Conditions of service.—The length of a normaltour of continuous residential service is from 12 to18 months depending on the age of the appointee.Successful applicant will be offered appointmentfora minimum of 2 tours with an option of renewal.Seven days vacation leave 6n full salary for eachcompleted month of residential service is granted oncompletion of a.tour. The officer and his wife willbe entitled tofree passage by sea or by air, on firstappointment and during leave between tours to thecountry from‘ which the officer was recruited. Freemedical faciljties witl-also be provided for the officerand his family. The officer will be eligible for agratuity.of £37-10s for each completed three monthsresidential service on completion of a tour. Qualifications—The| applicant. should be amember of the R.I.C.S. of I.Q.S. and should havehad a minimum ofseven years experience in estima-ting, preparation of building quantities, specificationsand other contract documents. Previous experiencein the tropics and in the training of indigenous staffwould be an advantage.

3. Duties—The appointee is required to takecharge of a group within the Quantity Surveyingservices and to deal generally with various types ofbuilding contracts.

Conditions—The length of a nofmal tour foran indigenous officer appointed on pensionable termsis 12 months and from 12 to 18 months, dependingon age, for an expatriate officer recruited on contract.For an expatriate contract officer, overseas leave onfull pay is granted at the end of each tour at the rateof’seven days for each completed montofresidentialservice. An indigenous appointee will be granted42 days vacation leave annually. Appointment oncontract basis will carry a gratuity of £37-10s foreach completed three months residential service onsatisfactory completion of a tour. Suitable accom-modation is usually provided in} GovernmentQuarters for which rentis payable af: the rate of 83per cent of basic salary, subject to a maximum of£150 per annum. pis
