Welcome to December!
Fall has gone by so fast
and we are already in
December! Student
Council had so much fun
in November – they would
like to thank all students
and staff who participated
in career day. It was great
to see everyone's creative
costumes.
The Giving Tree Program
As the holiday season
approaches we are
reminded of how
fortunate we are here in
the Hugh Beaton
community. Hugh
Beaton’s student council
has partnered with the
Children’s Aid Society to
purchase gifts for families
December 2019 Official Newsletter of Hugh Beaton Public School
December 12th from 5-7pm to be
entertained by the lovely talents of our
students in the band and choir, as well
as a special musical performance of The
Greatest Snowman by 3S & 3/4C.
Those performances will be from 5-6pm
followed by our open house until 7pm.
Our Home & School Association will also
be spreading some holiday cheer with
nut-free desserts, light beverages, crafts
and more during the Walkthrough.
Cookie Dough purchased through
MacMillan’s will also be available on the
12th from 2:30 to 4 and from 5-7pm. A
big thank you to everyone who raised
funds through cookie dough/magazine
sales. These funds go directly to
supporting programs for our students.
We know the value of parent
involvement and how your contributions
make Beaton such a great school. On
behalf of the staff of Hugh Beaton, we
would like to take this
opportunity to wish you and
your family a Merry Christmas
& a Happy Holiday Season!!
Our new year at school will
begin January 6, 2020.
- Mr. M. Vitella
December is here, Bulldogs! What a
wonderful time of year, when the weather
tells us to bundle up and prepare for the
holiday season. A reminder for our
students to stay warm by wearing your
coats, mitts, hats and winter boots. We
would greatly appreciate an extra pair of
indoor shoes for your child, if possible.
Parents please remember that our
students go outside each day during
Nutrition Break, save for the days when
the temperature combined with the
windchill factor is too low for students to
be outside. We want to be sure that
students are warm enough to remain
comfortable outdoors during the winter
months. A spare pair of socks in your
child’s locker is also a great idea! Even I
keep a spare clean pair in my desk drawer
just in case!
Winter break is just around the
corner and the Holidays are
quickly upon us. Check out our
calendar for the 10 Days of
Holiday Cheer at Beaton! The
staff and students at Beaton
are again preparing for our
annual Winter Walkthrough.
We would like to invite our
families to join us on Thursday,
in our area who may be in
need. Hugh Beaton
Families have been
purchasing new
unwrapped gifts which will
be delivered to the
Children’s Aid Society on
December 11th and given
to families in time for
Christmas.

Math At Home– How Can You Help with Math?
The Green Corner
HAVE A GROWTH MINDSET IN MATH… It’s Contagious!
Research shows:
1) Everyone can learn mathematics to high levels
2) Mathematics is about learning, not performing
3) Productive struggle deepens mathematical understanding
4) Mathematics is about creativity and making sense
5) Mistakes and challenges are what makes your brain grow
6) Depth of understanding is more important than speed
KISS N RIDE REMINDER
A Reminder to please pull all the way up
to our Kiss N Ride attendees so they can
let your child out safely and efficiently.
When parents let their child out before the
Kiss N Ride area, like at the gates of the
primary playground, it disrupts the flow
and causes other vehicles to have to
move around the stopped car, creating a
potential safety issue. Also, a reminder
that no students should be on the
playground prior to 8:30am unless they
are accompanied by an adult. Again, this
is for safety as supervision does not
commence until 8:30am.
