Faculty of Chemical and Natu-ral Resources Engineering (FKKSA), UMP was successfully organized 3rd International Conference on Chemical Engi-neering and Industrial Biotech-nology 2016 (ICCEIB 2016), held in the historical state of Malacca on 28th-30th Nov 2016. The event was officiat-ed by the Deputy Secretary-General (Management) Minis-try of Education Malaysia(MOE), Dato Kamel Mohamad. The conference was attended by 182 participations from local and international partici-pants (the United Kingdom, Sudan, Indonesia, Oman, Al-geria, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, New Zealand).
This year’s ICCEIB 2016 theme was ‘FEW: Emerging for the Sustainable Future’. FEW refers to the three essential elements that maintain and sustain the earth and its eco-system – Food, Water and Energy. As each component within the earth ecosystem is interdependent, serious efforts are needed to preserve the environment which also pro-vides us with the comfort of food, water and energy.
Towards the end, FKKSA was proud to announce the launching of the Journal of Chemical Engineering and Industr ial B io techno logy (JCCEIB) (Details on Page 2),
with the first issue published in March 2017.
In addition, seven Memo-randum of Understanding (MoU) documents have been exchanged during this event between UMP and its part-ners in order to forge prac-tical cooperative relation-ships with universities and corporations both locally and abroad. The seven organiza-tions are Infrastructure

From page 1—The collabora-tion with MCOM was part of the efforts to ensure UMP con-tinued to remain competitive and relevant by offering tech-nical academic programmes.
The mining industry is still playing an important role in supporting the economic de-velopment of Malaysia. Ma-laysian total mineral reserves was reported in between RM500 billion to RM1 trillion. On the other side of mining industrial ranked by Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Min-ing Companies 2014, Malay-sia ranks as the least attrac-tive jurisdiction in the world for investment in mining sector.
By having MCOM as the UMP partner, the establish-ment of the post graduate programme offered by FKKSA
will fulfill the current mining industry needs. Currently, ap-propriate human capital with advanced knowledge and technology on mining is in short supply, even though Malaysia has huge untapped and abun-dant mineral resources.
The initiative is an effort to support the continuous growth of the industry in order to put Malaysia as one of the world-class mining players. With the aim towards the sustainability and implementation of Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) in mining operation, this initia-tive is also a commitment to address the global issues in which the Chamber will act as an industrial advisor.
The master degree program will be offered this September. In addition, a new master de-gree program will also be offered this year by FKKSA which Master degree in process plant operation.

COMMUNITY SERVICES
In collaboration with UMP Advanced Education and ECER, FKKSA have organized an intensive program (Qgen 2016) for Year 6 students on 21st to 23rd October 2016 took place at Agro Resort Semuji, Gambang, Kuantan Pahang. Three primary schools were invited which are Sek. Keb. Tanah Putih, Sek. Keb. Panching and Sek. Keb. Gam-bang. Basically, this is a moti-vational programme with ‘life independence’ concept. The objective of this programme is to increase awareness and guide the students with Islamic and good attitudes. Other
than that, this programme also will provide the students with practical exercise in Quran recitation, Solah, and animal slaughtering in Islamic way as well as communication skill.
The committee of this pro-gramme mostly is the staff and lecturers of FKKSA. Meanwhile the facilitators for the activi-ties are students from FKKSA. This opportunity may create awareness among FKKSA staff and students towards social problem occurred among teenagers and encouraged leadership skill in FKKSA stu-dents. Many activities have
been done during three days of the programme including motivational talk, survival tips (animal slaughtering in Islamic way) and sports. The closing ceremony was officiated by YB Dato’ Mohd Zaili bin Haji Be-sar, Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Panching.
QGen 2016 — FKKSA To Community
The FKKSA technical and wel-fare club have organized a “Healthy lifestyle campaign” activity starting with the hiking at Bukit Sulai near Sekolah Kebangsaan Gambang. The program dated 9th February 2017 started at 9 am to 11.30 am involved at least 40 staffs. There are several plans ahead in this program includ-ing hiking in Bukit Pelindung and Bukit Panaroma, the fa-mous beautiful scenery of
Kuantan. In addition, “5 km charity fund run” with the cooperation of Pahang International Mara-thon will also be conducted on 12th March 2017. FKKSA will award staff with a good healthy lifestyle with a cash money of RM1000 on two categories which are male and female. The moni-toring of staffs weight that involve in this program was conducted monthly starting from 22nd Feb-ruary 2017.

Al-Fatihah. It is a great sadness that in 25th February 2017, we have loss our precious students Muhammad Zahid Hamidi bin Mohd Hasan and Muhammad Azrul bin Khairudin due to the drowning at Berkelah water-fall, Gambang, Kuantan. Both students are 20 years old and still pursuing their study in Diploma Chemical Engi-neering (Chemical Plant). Donation for both students was collected over one night from FKKSA staffs and RM 2430 has been collected. FKKSA representatives, Prof. Zulkafli bin Hassan and Dr. Nur Hidayah Mat Yasin has visited family members of Muhammad Zahid Hamidi at Muar, Johor on 26 February 2017. At the same time, Dr. Mior Ahmad Khusairi has made his way to Kampung Banggol Perdong Manir, Kuala Terengganu to visit fam-ily members of Muhammad Azrul.
