Dubai Police are keen to use artificial intelligence and enabling integrated communication with neighbouring countries and other parties to enhance safety and security at major events like Expo 2020. Brigadier Abdullah Ali Al Gaithi, director of protective security and emergency department at Dubai Police, said that artificial intelligence and multi-dimensional collaboration will be the key to securing Expo 2020. Brigadier Al Gaithi said this during an Expo 2020 round-table discussion at the inaugural edition of the two-day Major Events Safety and Security Summit (ME3S 2017), organised by Reed Exhibitions in collaboration with Major Events International (MEI).

The human dimension alone is not enough, but combining it with artificial intelligence has the potential to strategically improve resources. Moreover, enabling integrated communication with neighbouring countries and other parties would enhance safety and security at major events. An open discussion among solution providers and security forces is the only way to improve preparedness.

Major events play a significant role in the development of every city by elevating the happiness and economic indexes fuelling a sense of community and providing opportunities for employment and revenue-generation. However, these events may pose challenges too. Law enforcement authorities in many cities and nations plan extensively in order to ensure an atmosphere of security as well as hospitality. In just over three years’ time, more than 25 million visitors will descend on Dubai for Expo 2020. Two years later, Qatar will welcome more than one million people for one of the world’s largest sporting events – the FIFA World Cup. It is apt then that the first edition of Major Events Safety & Security Summit (ME3S), the exclusive and dedicated forum addressing safety and security for major event and all crowded places, was held in the Dubai – UAE, the leading event destination in the region and beyond.

The summit brought together over 200 specially selected attendees and stakeholders in the security business, including speakers representing the Yas Marina Circuit, Dubai Parks and Resorts, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, Dubai Sports Council, Hazza bin Zayed Stadium, Majid Al Futtaim, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, French Football Federation, Expo 2015, and Expo 2020, among others.

Next year’s edition of ME3S is expected to run alongside the eighth International Exhibition for National Security and Resilience (ISNR 2018) in Abu Dhabi which is organised by the UAE Ministry of Interior and Reed Exhibitions.
