With the launch of the RAS-Extend Marine, Redline put its latest innovation to the test out in the Indian Ocean with a valued customer. The Indian Ocean contains an estimated

40% of the world’s offshore oil production, but being the warmest ocean, it is impacted by high winds and severe monsoon climate.

The goal was to demonstrate that terrestrial wireless from Redline could be a higher performing and a more cost effective communications alternative to satellite for the many offshore Oil & Gas applications in one of the world’s richest and most turbulent oceans. The test needed to achieve:

❏❏ Reliability in transmitting over challenging water conditions

Text, voice and video communications were all put through rigorous testing and the results surpassed initial expectations by nine times. For real-time applications and video, the RAS-Extend Marine also proved to perform with the lowest latency within the industry (6 ms @ 50 km compared to 600 – 1500 ms with satellite).

The test outperformed all expectations and proved to be a solution that would not only perform reliably in rugged climate conditions but also have the range and bandwidth to support the many business and worker off-hour applications required to make the offshore Oil & Gas operations a cost efficient and effective business unit.
