Oh Baby!
By: Armani Darby
Did you know that 500,000 babies are prematurely born every year? According to the Center for
Disease Control Prevention that statistic and the statistic that on average 25,000 infants die each year
are sadly true.
This is the reason for the existence of the March of Dimes Foundation today.
The March of Dimes foundation, now called March for Babies, is devoted to the improved health
of pregnant women and babies. Every year they hold a fundraiser and a walk to raise money to help
towards funding the research to find out why prematurity happens.
Originally, this organization began as being a group that focused on fighting off polio. It was
started by former President Franklin D. Roosevelt, who suffered from polio himself.
Here at Northwestern the Future Business Leaders of America club (FBLA) is hosting a fundraiser
in every first block class to raise money for the foundation. The first block class to raise the most money
will receive a special prize.
When asked about what the effect of the school participating in the fundraiser makes him feel
Riley League, the Vice President of Finance for the FBLA club stated, “It feels good to be helping the
children.” Since Riley is a student at Northwestern, his statement expresses the viewpoint of the other
students.
This foundation is bringing
the best out of not only the
Northwestern staff, but also the
students and it just shows just how
much everyone can do to help
someone have a better life.
