Ohio Mulch Class II Facility Update Began taking food waste on September 6, 2011 Working with Viridiun – a Georgia based company that

specializes in food waste hauling for local Wal-Mart stores We are also working with Eartha Limited-Columbus, Ohio

based company Also working with Re-Use-It, a division of Brickman Facility

Group Receiving approximately 5-6 loads a week (Generated

over 1000tons YTD) Initial loads of food waste have been riddled with

contamination Working with haulers to educate their customers on what

is acceptable and what is not

We originally thought that as soon as the load was dropped, we could mix the food waste with ground yard waste immediately

We then planned to let it compost for a short time, run it through the grinder, and put it in a wind row

After receiving the first load, we immediately had to change plans to accommodate the large amount of debris in the loads of food waste

Contaminated products include cardboard, plastic containers, Styrofoam, general household trash, plastic gloves, prescription bottles, lawn ornaments, shopping baskets, and the biggest contaminate plastic bags

It became necessary to construct a staging area to pick trash

We laid a bed and “walls” of ground yard waste, the hauler then backs up to the concrete block and dumps the load of food waste on the bed of ground yard waste

Our employees pick the trash out of the load and put it in the dumpster

•Once the debris is picked from the staging area, the loader operator immediately mixes ground yard waste with the food waste to prevent any odors

The operator takes the food waste/yard waste mix and runs it through the Morbark grinder

Ohio Mulch Class II Facility Update Once through the

Morbark, the resulting product will sit in a wind row for approximately 90 days to compost

After 90 days, the wind row will be turned for an additional 90 days

After approximately, 180 days, we should have a finished high quality soil product

The resulting product will be tested by CLC Labs before it is taken off site or distributed

The food waste is only uncovered for the time in which it takes the employees to pick trash, thus eliminating any major odor issues

Ohio Mulch Class II Facility Update Our major issue right now is the contamination

of the non compostable bags We have created a compostable bag, that will

break down as soon as it becomes exposed to UV RAYS
