INTRODUCING MRS WHITEby her Great Grandson, Lawrence Roullier White

In her teenage years our Great Grandmother, MrsWhite, worked in service with only 3 days off eachyear, it was hard work but Mrs White learnt a great

deal about what would make her time and moneystretch much further.

With the knowledge she gathered she was able tomake her own preserves, remedies for various ailments,furniture polish and even glue!

Mrs White loved to have her family around her and weall loved to listen to her stories about how she wouldcreate something from nothing.

I remember one such occasion when, sitting in herfavourite mahogany high backed chair, she beckoned

me over and with aperfectly manicured nailtapped the arm of thechair and whispered ‘adrop of vinegar will bring thisup lovely’.

Although that was many yearsago, no-one in our family would dreamof using anything but vinegar and newspaper to get usout of many a domestic disaster!
