We use our ingenuity to create lasting value for all.

We tackle complex challenges through our multidisciplinary teams.

We completed a survey of gas transmission infrastructure, making recommendations for strategic investment in rehabilitating and modernising the largest gas transit and storage system in the world.

Ukraine’s gas infrastructure is central to European energy security and a major revenue earner for the country. Bringing technical, regulatory, infrastructure finance and management consultancy expertise, we prioritised investments to bring the greatest safety and reliability benefits.

We also recommended structural and management changes to improve operation of the network. Following this work, we are reviewing gas transmission infrastructure across Europe with a view to enhancing international interconnectivity, to make supply more resilient.

50K WORKFORCERuwais refinery expansion, Ruwais, Abu DhabiWe were appointed as project management consultant for a US$4.3bn oil refinery expansion project called the Ruwais refinery expansion, adjacent to its existing refinery in the Ruwais Industrial Complex.

The Ruwais Industrial Complex, of which the refinery expansion forms a part, is located on the ArabianGulf in the United Arab Emirates, approximately 250km west of Abu Dhabi. The new refinery

processes 400,000 barrels of Murban crude oil per day taken from existing pipelines that pass to the south of the existing refinery. The products are exported via a new, dedicated jetty 4.5km long with three berths.

We are managing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) packages that include commissioning and initial operation for the following three contracts forming part of the

Ruwais refinery expansion project: ■ Offsites and utilities ■ Tankage and associated interconnecting piping

25% PRODUCTION INCREASEQarn Alam enhanced oil recovery, OmanWe provided design and engineering for the world’s first full-field steam injection enhanced oil recovery (EOR) project.

Injecting steam into the oil reservoir heats viscous oil, making it more flowable, so releasing it from the geological formations in which it is stuck.

Our role covered water production and steam generation, and recovery and treatment of produced oil, gas and water.

After almost 40 years in operation, only 4% of oil in the Qarn Alam field had been recovered using conventional methods. Steam injection will unlock up to 35% of

the reserve, increasing production from 1200 barrels per day to an estimated 35,000 per day for the next 30 years. Qarn Alam EOR entered full production in 2012.

Steam injection will increase production in Qarn Alam field 25-fold for the next 30 years.Client: Petroleum Development Oman

10MT ANNUAL CAPACITYShell Prelude, FLNG, AustraliaWe assessed and confirmed the complex power systems on board a giant, 488m LNG production facility.

The largest floating facility ever built, the Prelude requires 120MW of electricity generation capacity to power gas processing and refrigeration systems and thruster motors required for manoeuvring. We analysed the system performance against typical and extreme operational scenarios, and designed protection settings to guard against electrical faults. The facility is stationed north west of Australia.Client: Shell

EQUIPPING CUSTOMERS WITH KEY EXPERTISE NEEDED TO ENHANCE THEIR OPERATIONAL AND PROJECT DELIVERY PERFORMANCE.

Working in partnership with clients, their other service

providers, contractors and other supply chain members contributes to optimised solutions resulting from pooled knowledge, experience, critical review and advice.

We use our collective expertise to work with our clients to plan, design, procure and deliver programmes and projects of any scale. Applying programme and project management built on technical know-how we shape and implement the development

of policies and programmes and manage data in a ‘commercial cycle’ to provide corporate, programme and project information for future use.

We are well positioned to deliver engineer, procure

and construct (EPC) contracts in targeted markets. Our teams provide integrated EPC solutions under one umbrella, eliminating multiple interfaces which makes our project delivery highly effective with a single point of focus on our clients. We understand our clients’ expectations and procedures and strive to deliver superior solutions cost-effectively.

We have developed strategic partnerships in delivering EPC

solutions in the hydrocarbon segment and have delivered EPC projects by amalgamating competencies and experience, proven systems and processes with our partners successfully.

We ensure procurement through our global supply chain resource, contacts and processes. Our intention is to utilise global vendor databases and relationships for effective and efficient procurement. The use of IT systems and tools enables timely procurement, vendor

capability assessment, inspection, project and construction management.

We also offer an excellent team within quality, health, safety and environmental (QHSE) systems and a safety approach to achieve zero harm.

Mott MacDonald is poised to grow its EPC business for its clients. We believe in delivering projects through collaborating with local companies wherever we operate.

30% TIME SAVINGRumaila Oilfield Operating Base, IraqBy mobilising an international team and managing construction, we enabled a major operating base to be built 30% faster and at substantially less cost than conventional procurement routes would have allowed.

Initially operating out of the military base at Basrah Airport, BP appointed Mott MacDonald to deliver accommodation and offices for 300 people in April 2010. The Rumaila field is 70km from Basrah, so the base had to be wholly self-sufficient. In addition to homes, offices, kitchens and dining rooms, the complex required

a mosque, shops, a clinic and sports facilities, power generation, water and sewage treatment plants, garages and petrol stations. Accommodation was designed in clusters – mini-villages – each with its own local facilities.

Using local firms to make a quick start enabled handover of the first phase within BP’s allotted six weeks. Overall, the procurement strategy enabled the project to be completed four months earlier than would have been possible using an international contractor – a 30%

time saving – while using local resources delivered a major cost saving.

With a strong track record in post-conflict Iraq, we’d worked with the region’s principal contractors. We drew on that experience to tender and award the work to local firms and manage construction.Client: BP

We provided engineering, procurement and construction support for the development of a 500MW combined heat and power (CHP) plant and integration with the adjacent South Hook LNG terminal in Wales.

We designed upgrades, modifications and interfaces to convert the terminal facilities so that LNG could be regasified using ‘waste’ heat, recovered from the CHP plant and transferred through a circulating water system.

This will reduce the LNG terminal’s fuel gas consumption by a rate equivalent to 250MW, and reduce emissions associated with combustion. We developed the design to ensure construction wouldn’t disrupt gas export. On completion, the two plants will form a highly efficient collective energy hub.

30% INCREASE IN OIL OUTPUTZakum Central Super Complex, UAEWe project managed the restoration of a mothballed offshore oil production super complex, to increase oilfield production capacity.

The oilfield was operational, so we carefully planned the works to assure worker safety and minimise disruption. Through analysis of the existing platform legs’ condition, and their subsequent structural reinforcement, we ensured it was possible to safely construct new facilities including a 3500t accommodation unit for 80 people and a 3250t deck, housing systems for power generation and water treatment and injections.

Our stringent approach to risk identification and management led to 12.6M hours worked without a lost time incident.

Deploying the rehabilitated platform will help expand capacity to 425,000 bopd: that’s a 30% boost driven by a facility nearly 50 years old.Client: ADMA-OPCO
