ADMINISTRATIVE PROJECTS. REHABILITATION OF A LOW DENSITY POLYETHYLENE INDUSTRIAL PLANT IN TARRAGONALocation: Catalonia, SpainCustomer: DOW CHEMICAL IBÉRICA
TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
The project aimed to establish Dow’s best technology to high pressure reactors, which basically consisted in dividing the ethylenefeed to the reactor in two (50/50), and have 4 catalyst injections instead of the current 2. To add two new catalyst injections itwas necessary to build two new deposits (mixing and injection) and 3 new injection pumps. In addition, the reactor’s length hadto be increased by adding input tubes. The cooling water network had to be modified to optimize the transfer of heat.
A new telomere system was also added. The telomere is currently stored in a carbon steel deposit and a new stainless steel tankand pump injection shall be installed.
The project also included replacing the extruder’s motor, from direct to alternating current, hence requiring the construction ofa storage facility to host a drive and a transformer. The changes improved the plant’s capacity in 15%. The works consisted in:
