    I. The Goals / Objectives of My Off Campus Practice

On-the-Job-Training or OJT is job training that occurs in the work place. It has

many advantages, but it can also have a few disadvantages if the OJT is not planned

and executed properly. It is part of our college curriculum that aims to train and

orient us, students, about the work and our future career. It is very important notonly to teach us our chosen career but also to show the reality about working.

This training increases our skills and abilities to perform specific task. It

develops and improves certain phases of our attitudes, discipline, behavior or

knowledge to make us either more effective on our job or better qualified for our

future job which the training endeavors develop. It is also a way to improve attitude

towards job, fellow workers, supervisor and the firm as a whole.

OJT broadens and sharpens the students' professional skills. It is a way of

applying all the theories that we learned in lower management which is used

advantageously in the actual business world. We all know that there is indeed a bigdifference between theoretical and actual. Especially in the field of Civil

Engineering, we need a lot of experiences.

    II. Companys Background / Profile

Clark Development Corporation (CDC) is a government agency tasked to

manage the Clark Freeport and Clark Special Economic Zone - two contiguous areas

in Pampanga and Tarlac that are considered as one of the fastest growing

investment destinations in the Philippines today. While CDC is a subsidiary of the

Bases Conversion Development Authority, it enjoys full autonomy to enter into

contracts, grant permits and licenses, build, operate and regulate utilities - among

other tasks in its mandate under Republic Act 7227 or the Bases Conversion Law

and other pertinent Presidential and Executive issuances.

CDC oversees the day-to-day affairs in Clark, ensuring that a viable business

environment is enjoyed by locators and investors, employees, residents, local

communities and all other stakeholders. This is achieved through the

implementation of sound policies that help create profitable business climate inside

the Freeport while helping boost the economies of local communities in and around

    Clark area.

CDC has a responsive bureaucracy that is made up of business professionals

and top caliber employees. Its organizational structure has been tailored to serve

the needs and demands of Clark locators while upholding the interests of the

government at the same time. CDC maintains high degree of professionalism,

competence and excellence in dealing with its broad based clientele. Its officers and

employees observe ethical standards and decorum - necessary ingredients in

    ensuring quality and dependable service.

III. The Nature of Work in My Assigned Department

I was assigned at the Engineering, Construction and Maintenance

Department (ECMD). It is an engineeringtechnical oriented department that is asubsidiary of the Assistant Vice President for Security and Technical Services

Office. They are the one responsible for renovation of buildings or infrastructures

and road maintenance within Clark zone. The department is divided into two: the

Planning and Design team (Survey, Structural, Architectural, Sanitary and Plumbing,

and Electrical) and the Construction team (Site inspection).

IV. Evaluation of My On-the-Job or Training Experiences

Part of OJT is to meet new people and to acquire new friends. For me,

engineers are indeed the happiest one to deal with. Ive met the following

engineers, our supervisors (It was agreed during our orientation that we will be

having different supervisors depending on the task that we execute):

Engr. Ronald H. Victoria He is the Senior Survey Officer, head of the Surveysection that monitors and leads the survey process

conducted by the Junior Survey officer.

Engr. Ronald G. Soriano He is the Senior Civil Engineer who does hydraulic

design (drainage system) and design for horizontal

    phase.

    3/5

Engr. Renan A. Cenzon He is the Structural Engineer who does the design

for vertical phase: beams, columns, trusses and footings

    of buildings and infrastructures.

Aside from our supervisors, weve met the members/staff of our department

composed of architects and engineers, who are very jolly and approachable. Theymake us feel at home. Im lucky that I already knew my co trainees.

CDC is a non smoking area and all employees and workers are obliged to

wear their corresponding uniforms and ID. In our department (ECMD), Personal

Protective Equipment (PPE) is a must because of its nature of work. They have their

deadlines and desired outcome on their projects. Due to election 2013, there are

only a few new projects arising from CDC. But we were able to make a site visit on

the following: the newly renovated finance building, proposed drainage system at

Ritzville and at the new establishment near TI, and proposed access road at Lily hill

and also conducts a survey on the proposed bike lane along Roxas Ave. While at the

office, they are familiarizing us with the different software they use for their designand analysis.

    V. Observed Organizational Values / Evaluation of the Company

As mentioned earlier, engineers are really fun to be with. They give us

advices on our chosen career and on the real business world. There is a good

interpersonal relationship between the people of ECMD and us trainees. There is

also a good working relationship with the executives and co workers. They

entertain our questions and they always smile and greet us. I consider this as a

good trait or feedback for their employees and workers and also with the company.

They are also punctual and well dressed for their specific job. Cleanliness andorderliness are also observed in the company.

VI. Problems Encountered During My Training

Except for the few projects due to election, I did not encounter a problem on

our department. But I may say there is a quite one on the Human Resource

Department. Our IDs were not released and there is a slow progress. So what we

did is to update them every now and then.

VII. Recommendations / Suggestions and Feedback

Ive enjoyed my Student On-the-Job / Practicum Training Program. I learnedthings related on my major and some sort of camaraderie at the same time. They

are all fun to be with, and every piece of advice that they can give to us is helpful

    and worthy

I just suggest for more activities/programs to be conducted for their next

    trainees.

    VIII. Companys Existing Problems

The problem that the company or specifically our department encountered, is

that there are some requirements that are not set or done by their clients

(contract). But it is just a little adjustment since they fix it as soon as possible and

always set an appointment. But rather than that, there is a progress and an on going process on their operations and maintenance.

IX. Proposed solution on No. VIII

Just what they did, it is really appropriate to always set an appointment to

settle and improve things if needed. If a limit budget is given, which is always and a

common factor to be considered on their company since it is a government agency,

adjustment is a must (planning, design and estimate).
