The Professional Development Depart-
ment, along with their “Big 12” partners,
hosted the 2016 Fall Focus Intersession
on October 10, 11 and 12th. Over 30 dif-
ferent sessions were offered to teachers,
school leaders and instructional coaches.
A wide array of topics were covered– in-
cluding classroom management, guiding
reading, STAR and Mastery Connect.
Several content specific workshops were also offered. Each day com-
plimentary coffee was provided courtesy of Starbucks, and local food
trucks were on site offering lunch. Many of our presenters and partici-
pants used the Twitter hashtag #okcpsff16 to document the day– Be
sure to check out all the excitement via Twitter! The PD Department
received great feedback from all involved and is already hard at work
preparing for our Winter Intersession! Thank you to all of our amazing
partners and participants!

TLE Updates!
Lynore Carnuccio is the Instructional Coach at Grant
High School. Lynore has
over 40 years of teaching
experience. She was
recently selected to present at the 2017 TESOL Inter-
national Conference and Expo in Seattle, WA. Not
only does Lynore love sharing her passion for teach-
ing, she enjoys helping teachers manage their expec-
tations with the current reality of today’s classroom.
Lynore works to help teachers realize that, “though
the classroom has evolved [teachers] really do possess the skills they need to help
kids become successful.” Lynore has been making a big impact at Grant High
School. She specifically recalls a wonderful experience in which she was able to
work in a science classroom. The teacher had been struggling to manage of the
behavior of 2 of her classes. Lynore and the teacher worked together to uncover
that those two classes had a significant percentage of students who were not Eng-
lish proficient and only understood basic sentences. With these new insights,
Lynore and the teacher crafted a plan to move forward. Lynore commented that the
teacher had a renewed sense of confidence, as if the “weight of the world had been
lifted.” Lynore has deep respect for the teachers she’s worked with– citing the great
courage it takes to step forward and seek help. She notes, “Rather than viewing the
choice to seek help as a weakness, [teachers] should see it as a great strength be-
cause just like their students, they want to learn more and grow.”
New guidelines regarding the definitions and frequency of formal
and informal observations were recently approved. There are to be two un-
announced informal observations, as well as one formal announced obser-
vation that will count towards the final evaluation score. The first unan-
nounced informal observation will be finalized by October 10. The an-
nounced formal observation (with a pre and post conference) will be final-
ized by December 19th. The second unannounced informal should be final-
ized by April 3rd. The full guidelines are now available for review. If you
have any questions, please reach out to your site principal or a TLE Coordi-
nator.
