Speck fishermen are spread all around the lake using their

favorite methods to catch Lake Okeechobee’s fat specks. Many anglers are finding fish in the Kissimmee River us-ing jigs and minnows to catch fish in the relatively deeper water of the river. Other anglers can be found jigging in the Kis-simmee grass that lines the outside edges of the lake. Some anglers prefer fishing the heavier cover areas for specks, probing the hydrilla edges and the bulrush with their tine jigs or a minnow dangled under a small cork. What-ever method or style you prefer, each is account-ing for good catches of speck. The local canals are a great place to fish when it is too windy on

the main lake. An angler can either troll or anchor and fish for minnows un-der a bobber.

Grassy Island, Buckhead Ridge and Harney Pond are all providing opportu-nities to catch fish. Some anglers prefer to fish dur-ing the dark hours and at this particular time it seems to be producing more and bigger specks for experienced anglers.

Bass fishing is steady at this time, not spectacular, just good. The anglers that are doing the best are those willing to spend whatever amount of time it takes to locate fish. Artificial baits that are working are either being flipped or pitched into the heavy cover around the lake.
