Brought to you by

Beautiful mornings and rainy afternoons; a summertime pattern for sure. Bass fishing is very good during the early morning hours. Some mornings the bite last two to three hours. Anglers that stay out and fish the whole day are catching fish, but at a much slower rate. Those on the water before light are using a spinner bait or other fast moving lure to draw strikes from fish chasing shad in and along the grass lines. Once the sun gets up into the sky and the bass quit avidly chasing, it becomes necessary to slow down to continue to have success. Flipping and pitching techniques with creature baits or 10-inch worms have proven successful. The lake continues to rise each day, and the slow rise of the water level has allowed the native grasses to grow at the

same rate as the rise of the water. Those who have not been on the lake will be very surprised to see what the inundation of heavily nutrient laden water does to the environment. Plant life has exploded in many areas topping out and creating thick almost impenetrable mats. Anglers are catching blue gill and specks on the outside edges of the lake. With the water high it is nearly impossible to see the bottom. Red worms and crickets will draw strikes from blue gill and shell cracker. With the very high water the fish are definitely on the move. Many are following the food sources that are being moved around by the wind and current, while other fish are moving back further into the marsh areas where they are much tougher to target.
