— Cpt. Mike Shellen

Cold front conditions will dictate how you will fish this week. High winds will be around for several days following the passing of the front. Winds from the North up to 25 mph are forecast so caution is recom-mended when venturing into the open areas of the lake. Bass fishing is still very good with shiner fishing leading the way, last week we started catching fish that have just started moving into the shallow edges from the main lake. Big bass are being caught daily with large numbers of bass too. A live wild shiner is the number one bait for this time of year, particularly if you are looking for the trophy bass of your lifetime.

I have spoken to several anglers that are catching 15 to 20 specks per trip using a jig. The Kissimmee River is normally the first place anglers will normally start catching good numbers of big specks. A few anglers are catching fish along the edges of the grass using small lightweight jigs, while others are anchoring and using minnows. The cooler weather will lower the water temperatures which will only help with a great speck bite.

Bass fishermen using artificial baits are finding bass scattered all over the lake, some are catching bass in the deep marsh area while others are picking fish up along the outside grass lines, as the lake elevation continues to fall fish will be urged toward the outside edges where main points and other prominent features will come into play.
