Nutrients
Blue Green Yellow Orange Red
Fats
Proteins
Stomach - Stomach wall produces gastric juice which contain hydrochloric acid and protease enzyme
Physical digestion - peristalsis of stomach wall churns and breaks up food particles
Hydrochloric acid- provide optimum pH for protease - kills bacteria and other harmful organism
Chemical Digestion - proteins --> polypeptides
Small Intestine (duodenum)
Intestinal juice - produced by small intestine - contains protease, lipase and amylase
Pancreatic juice- produced by the pancreas- contains protease, amylase and lipase
Bile- produced in the liver- stored in gall bladder - released into small intestine (duodenum) - Bile emulsifies fat (breaks up large fat droplets into smaller fat droplets)- this results in a larger surface area to volume ratio, which speed up digestion by lipase
Digestion is completed in the small intestines (duodenum) Maltose --> Glucose Polypeptides --> Amino acidsLipids --> Fatty acids + Glycerol
