Calderdale Gymnastics

On Wednesday our 3 elite gym squads took part in the annual Calderdale Schools’ Gymnastics

Association Competition. Held at the North Bridge Leisure Centre, Halifax, in

front of over 1500 spectators, our 22 gymnasts performed brilliantly.

Without doubt, each team—Girls—Mixed—Boys— performed their routines to the highest standard they had ever done them. The audience certainly brought

the best out of the children. Our Mixed team were almost flawless and were

second—just 0.2 away from the top prize ! Our Boys’ team—all new to Gym this year were

great—their ‘Do you want to be a boxer?’ routine was full of fun and the lads deserved their 2nd place.

The Girls’ team came third, leaving most of the audience perplexed, as their routine was certainly the

most complex, gymnastically; and was performed with just a couple of small wobbles.

The three teams performed their routines for the school in assembly earlier today… a real treat.

We are very proud of all your efforts… and well done too to the hardworking coaches!

Health Day Lots of learning too—

The Y6 children and 40+ parents had their eyes widened at a seminar, led by Jonathan Pas-

chall, on e-safety. Even parents who thought

they were up to speed with the latest trending world of social media left feeling they had learnt a great deal.

The children in year 6 had a similar seminar

during the day and spent a deal of time learning strategies to deal with some of the situations

they may find themselves in. Very important messages with your child at the centre of our

safeguarding concerns.

What a fantastic day! Monday saw all the children enjoy a wide

range of health based learning experiences. Activities saw children

learning about healthy eating, fitness classes including Zumba, parachute

games and yoga. Children & Parents also learnt about

healthy lifestyles from the better living team including the ‘shocking’ sugar

lump challenges!

The children in Y5 have been through the mill with stand-in Dragon, Mr Reyn-olds. The children had to research, plan and prepare a pitch for wads of money

piled on the desk. Some teams were turned away having not prepared well enough, but in the end, all 12 teams left the Den with be-tween £15 and £35. Strong negotiating was neces-sary so that the children could keep a greater cut of the profits! All the children’s profits are being donated to the RNLI when they go on their resi-

dential visit to Seahouses next term. You will be pleased that the Dragon’s cut will go

straight into buying art equipment.

Year 5 Enterprise— all children can

bring up to £2 to buy items from the dozen stalls at the Enterprise fair—

next Thursday.

We are really proud of our efforts to make the learning experiences of the children in Y6 as fun

and normal as possible, even in the run up to the important SAT tests. So Y6 spent the day on

Friday having the most amazing ‘Roman Day’… a well deserved experiential day for this group of

Anthony and Cleopatra’s!!

5-A-SIDE COMPETITION : Huge congratulations to the Y5/6 boys 5 a-side football team, who came out on top at the Elland football tourna-ment this week. Even with staying on their feet being the hardest part, the boys still displayed their foot-balling skills well and didn't concede a goal in all 5 games. The goals were shared around on our team, with even Oliver, our goalkeeper, getting in on the action. Well done to Leo who was awarded the player of the tournament, and rightly so with the skills and finishing he showed.
