Commissioners SwansonTERRITORIAL LEADERS

Commissioners Barry C. & E. Sue Swanson In February 2013, Commissioner Barry C. Swanson was appointed Territorial Commander and Commissioner E. Sue Swanson Territorial President of Women’s Ministries. Commissioner Barry Swanson is the administrative and ecclesiastical leader of The

Salvation Army in 10 states plus Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, with headquarters in West Nyack, N.Y. The territory includes more than 1,600 active and retired officers, 369 corps, and more than 1,000 other centers.

Commissioner Swanson, a native of Chicago, attended Northern Illinois University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing. In 1975, he married Sue Miller and they entered the College for Officer Training in 1976, and were commissioned as officers in 1978. Lieutenants Barry and Sue were appointed to corps work in Michigan and served for 12 years.

In 1990, Commissioner Barry attended the Army’s International College for Officers (ICO) in London, England. In 2000, Commissioner Sue had a similar opportunity to grow in her faith with other officers at ICO. Both testify to the truly enriching experience that being a delegate at the ICO affords.

In June 1990, the Captains Swanson were appointed to the Heartland Divisional Headquarters in the Central Territory, followed by another corps appointment prior to becoming the divisional leaders in 1995, with the rank of major.

In July 1999, they were appointed to Territorial Headquarters in Chicago, with the rank of lt. colonel. In 2001, Lt. Colonel Sue became the territorial candidates secretary. In July 2006, the Swansons were appointed to National Headquarters as national chief secretary and as national secretary for Women’s Ministries.

A year later and promoted to the rank of commissioner, the Swansons were appointed to International Headquarters (IHQ) in London, where Commissioner Barry became the International Secretary for the Americas and Caribbean Zone, while Commissioner Sue Swanson was appointed as

Zonal Secretary for Women’s Ministries. Just one year later, in October 2008, Commissioners Swanson returned to the USA to assume responsibilities as Territorial Leaders of the USA Central Territory. In addition to being appointed Territorial President of Women’s Ministries, Commissioner Sue was given the role of Territorial Ambassador for Prayer.

In May 2010 the Commissioners returned to IHQ as Chief of the Staff and World President of Women’s Ministries, respectively. As Chief, Commissioner Barry Swanson was second–in–command of the worldwide Salvation Army and chief administrative officer for The Salvation Army’s IHQ.

The Swansons are parents to four adult children: Joan Kurtz, married to Patrick; Will and Chrissy Swanson, who have two daughters, Luella and Martha, and a son, Barry; Michael, married to Leah; and Andrea Strand, married to Colin, who have twin boys, Walter and Harvey.

Colonels MunnSPECIAL GUESTS

Colonel Janet Munn Colonel Janet Munn is the Principal of the College for Officer Training (CFOT) in Suffern, New York. An officer for 28 years, she has served globally in leadership and in urban and suburban corps.

Colonel Munn desires to equip a generation of leaders who are devoted to Jesus Christ, to prayer, to holiness, and to reaching the world.

Colonel Munn has given many summers to camping ministry for underprivileged youth. Globally, she calls people to 24/7 prayer, to corporate prayer and fasting, and to accountability and discipleship in community through small groups.

Janet is the daughter of a Nazarene pastor and a disciple–making mother; the wife of Colonel Richard Munn, and the mother of two young adults, Nealson and Olivia (now a lieutenant). Colonel Janet Munn has recently completed her Doctor of Ministry degree from Ashland Theological Seminary.

14 OLD ORCHARD BEACH

Turn on your TV or radio and you’ll find no shortage of next–big–things and overnight successes. But in the midst of all of that noise, you may find yourself craving something more. Something authentic, something familiar, yet fresh.

Look no further. The women of Point of Grace are celebrating 20 years together, and with this celebration they offer A Thousand Little Things, their 12th record. Brimming with the beautiful harmonies, encouraging lyrics, and graceful melodies that Shelley Breen, Denise Jones, and Leigh Cappillino are known for, A Thousand Little Things reminds us to be mindful of the multitude of blessings God has given us. And what the world needs now, more than ever, is to remember how important gratitude is, each and every day.

You may ask yourself how a band that has already achieved such monumental success—27 #1 songs, 13 Dove awards, two GRAMMY nominations, career album sales in excess of 7 million with multiple Platinum and Gold certifications, and one of the top 10 best–selling artists in the history of Contemporary Christian Music—presses on? It’s quite simple: They love what they do, and they love sharing it with their fans.

POINT OF GRACE

CAMP MEETINGS 2015 15

Since 1885, OOB has a place of holy happenings, where the Gospel has been proclaimed and countless lives have been changed. The Salvation Army continues in that tradition bringing creativity and innovation to authentic Christian witness.

Concerning the Gospel, the area surrounding OOB is one of the most unreached parts of the United States. It is our prayer that this year’s 2015 P.I.E.R. ministry brings many people to Christ.

They are moms, wives, and artists; and, like every working woman, they’re thankful for the fullness in their lives, yet striving to find balance. A strong work ethic, fostered through years of touring, recording and writing, drives these three women to keep making music to share with their listeners.

Point of Grace will appear in concert on Friday, July 31, at the OOB Camp Meeting located at the Pavilion. For more details, check the schedule on page 3.
