Laudetur Jesus Christus! Gelobt sei Jesus Christus! Sia lodato Gesù Cristo! Praised be Jesus Christ!

First of all, Happy Mother's day to all of our mothers today. May the Lord continue to bless you, and may our Blessed Virgin Mary guide each of you in your motherly role!

Next Friday, May 26, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Philip for the first time as the Cincinnati Oratory. We will have a Solemn Traditional Mass at 7:00 p.m. here at Old St. Mary's to celebrate the Feast Day. I would encourage everyone to attend the Mass, if possible. If you can not make the evening Mass, try to make one of our earlier Masses. Please be sure to thank St. Philip for his intercession in helping to establish an Oratory here in Cincinnati. The Novena of St. Philip Neri begins this coming Wednesday. Please find Novena sheets near the doors. Please join us in reciting this Novena. We will also recite the Novena after all Masses, from May 17-25. Please remember the intentions of the Oratory in your prayers! Today we celebrate May Crowning and Mother's Day. One of St. Philip Neri's favorite phases to utter throughout the course of the day was the phrase 'Virgin and Mother, Mother and Virgin.' This phrase is con-tained on the ceiling of Old St. Mary's, proof of St. Philip having a hand in the building of Old St. Mary's 175 years ago, laying the groundwork for our beautiful Parish and the foundation of the Oratory. While we all rightly esteem our own mothers to

be the best of all mothers, we all would agree that Mary is preeminent among them. As the Mother of God, the new Eve, and the Mediatrix of All Grace, Mary has become the new Mother of all humanity, beckoning her children to return to our Father's house, receive the graces that He desires to give to us, and lead us into His ever-lasting kingdom. May we each entrust ourselves to our august Mother today. Please pray with us today this prayer of St. Philip Neri to Mary, our Mother, imploring the intercession of our great Mother of God. Have a blessed week ahead!

"Mary, I love you. Mary, make me live in God, with God, and for God. Draw me after you, holy mother. O

Mary, may your children persevere in loving you.Mary, Mother of God and mother of mercy, pray for me and for the departed. Mary, holy Mother of God, be our helper. In every difficulty and distress, come to our aid,

O Mary.O Queen of Heaven, lead us to eternal life with God.Mother of God, remember me, and help me always to

remember you. O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to you.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. Holy Mary, Mother of

God, pray to Jesus for me. Amen." - St. Philip Neri

PARISH AND OTHER NEWSFeast of St. Philip Neri, Friday, May 26 There will be a Solemn Traditional Mass for the Feast of St. Philip Neri on Friday, Mary 26 at 7:00 p.m. Please join us for the Feast of the holy founder of the Congre-gation of the Oratory.Italy Oratorian Pilgrimage - November 2017 If you are interested in going on the Pilgrimage to Italy in November, please make your reservations as soon as possible. There are only a handful of spots remaining and they are going quick! This is a great way to celebrate the establishment of the new Oratory by going on Pil-grimage in the footsteps of our Founder! Please contact the Parish Office with any questions or for a flyer.Catechism News Thank you to everyone for their participation, patience, and assistance with Catechism this past year. Thank you in particular to the following Catechists who gave of their time and energy to help educate our children in the Faith: Miss Mary Nerswick, Sr. Marie Cecile, Mrs. Amy Bockrath, Mrs. Caroline Hofmann, Mr. Scott Voss, and Mr. Wendell Hull, along with all of the speakers who spoke to our adults. We will resume again in the Fall. Catechism will continue at Sacred Heart on Wednesday mornings following the daily Mass.Summer Items Now that we are moving into summer, it is important to keep in mind that, when the Church windows are open, voices do carry into the Church. Please be mindful, when talking under the windows, we must be respect-ful of the Masses and Devotions taking place inside the Church.Adoration Needs Could you not spend but one hour with Me? We are in need of adorers for Sunday Afternoon and Wednesday Evening. Please contact the Parish Office if you are in-terested in signing up for an hour, or to substitute. You may also visit: adoration.oldstmarys.org. Everyone is welcome at anytime during Exposition, even if you can't take a scheduled hour or be a substitute; but we need to make sure that there are at least two adorers signed up for each hour. Thank you for you consideration!Bulletin Ads If anyone would like to help support our bulletin by advertising on the back cover, please contact the parish office for more information. These ads help us provide the bulletin at no cost to the parish. Please consider either placing an ad or supporting our sponsors!

Can you Help Clean our Beautiful Church? The Saturday morning church cleaning team could use more help on a regular basis. If a few people could com-mit to helping clean once or twice a month, it would be appreciated. Cleaning is done on Saturday mornings from 9am - 11am. We welcome children, 12 and up, who are willing to work hard. Younger children need a parent to remain with them. Contact Kathy Reisiger at 513 742-3432 or [email protected] if you can serve the parish in this manner.Social after Sunday Mass Everyone is welcome to Fr. Felten Hall following the 7:30 a.m., 9:15 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. Masses every Sunday.Looking for a Unique Way to Contribute to the Oratory? We’re exploring the possibility of opening and running a brewery and tap room, similar to the Monasteries of old. The objective would be to engage those living or visiting our OTR neighborhood as a way of “opening the door” of the Church to any who might not other-wise interact with Priests, Brothers, or even with active lay-Catholics. Could God be calling you to use your talents to help us determine whether this is a viable concept, and to come up with a plan? We are forming a project team and need people who have experience with construction, restaurant/bar management, marketing/branding, legal and accounting services. If you are in-terested, please call or email Bill Schult at 859.653.3207 or [email protected].

PREGNANCY CENTER NEWSHappy Mother's Day to all Mothers, physical and spiri-tual, grandmothers, godmothers, aunts, religious sisters and anyone who helps children. A Prayer for Mothers God of tender love and life, You compared your love for humanity to the love a mother has for her own child, You are the Lord and Giver of Life, and you knit each of us together in our mother's womb. You provide for the world The example of Mary, your own mother, who said yes to life amid her confusion and surprise. We thank you, then, for our mothers. Though human, they are also a reflection of you, Lord God. They are your gift to us. We pray for all mothers today. May they realize the greatness of their vocation and have the strength to live it without fear. Forgive their sins, and keep their eyes raised up to you. To those who still make this earthly journey with us, give us the grace to love them as we should; and to those whom you have called from this life, give a spe-cial place of honor in your kingdom of endless life. We pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

CATECHESIS AND SPIRITUALITYCatechesisSermon from Pope St. Leo the Great on EasterAnd then there followed many proofs, whereon the authority of the Faith to be preached through the whole world might be based. And although the rolling away of the stone, the empty tomb, the arrangement of the linen cloths, and the angels who narrated the whole deed by themselves fully built up the truth of the Lord's Resur-rection, yet did He often appear plainly to the eyes both of the women and of the Apostles not only talking with them, but also remaining and eating with them, and al-lowing Himself to be handled by the eager and curious hands of those whom doubt assailed. For to this end He entered when the doors were closed upon the disciples, and gave them the Holy Spirit by breathing on them, and after giving them the light of understanding opened the secrets of the Holy Scriptures, and again Himself showed them the wound in the side, the prints of the nails, and all the marks of His most recent Passion, whereby it might be acknowledged that in Him the properties of the Divine and Human Nature remained undivided, and we might in such sort know that the Word was not what the flesh is, as to confess God's only Son to be both Word and Flesh.

The Apostle of the Gentiles, Paul, dearly-beloved, does not disagree with this belief, when he says, even though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now we know Him so no more. For the Lord's Resurrection was not the ending, but the changing of the flesh, and His substance was not destroyed by His increase of power. The quality altered, but the nature did not cease to exist: the body was made impassible, which it had been possible to crucify: it was made incorruptible, though it had been possible to wound it. And properly is Christ's flesh said not to be known in that state in which it had been known, because nothing remained passible in it, nothing weak, so that it was both the same in essence and not the same in glory. But what wonder if S. Paul maintains this about Christ's body, when he says of all spiritual Christians wherefore henceforth we know no one after the flesh. Henceforth, he says, we begin to experience the resurrection in Christ, since the time when in Him, Who died for all, all our hopes were guaranteed to us. We do not hesitate in dif-fidence, we are not under the suspense of uncertainty, but having received an earnest of the promise, we now with the eye of faith see the things which will be, and rejoicing in the uplifting of our nature, we already possess what we believe. To be continued...
