WE JOYFULLY WELCOME FR. RYAN PINEDA!

“You can call me Fr. Ryan or Father Pineda.”

In the days to come, we’ll

learn more from and about

our new shepherd.

For now, here’s a little

background information:

Father was born in Manila,

the capital city of the

Philippines and moved to Guam when he was 18.

His family relocated to Los Angeles, where he

lived for eight years. In December 2007, he

visited Washington, DC, a trip that brought him

to the Franciscan Monastery and the Basilica of

the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception.

While praying at these two churches, “I felt that

God (was) telling me that there is something in

Washington, DC that is worth exploring.” He

moved to the DC area in 2008, and in 2016 was

ordained a priest for our Archdiocese.

From the book:

There are two questions that confront

the people of every place and time, questions that

confront you and me today:

Are you satisfied with the direction the world is moving in?

Are you satisfied with your life?

...Our collective dissatisfaction with the direction of the

world leads to the consensus that the world needs

changing. And yet, we seem gripped by exasperation and

paralyzed by the false belief that we can't do anything

about it. The saints dispel that exasperation and inspire

us to bold action. They remind us over and over again:

We can change the world.

AN ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION

My Jesus,

I believe that You are present

in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love you above all things,

and I desire to receive you into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment receive you

sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if you were already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen.

THE HOLY FATHER’S INTENTION FOR

JANUARY:

Human Fraternity

May the Lord give us the grace

to live in full fellowship with our

brothers and sisters of other

religions, praying for one

another, open to all.

Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

For the greater glory of God...

Dear Parish Family,

This will be my last ‘Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam’

column with you. I chose that title when I was first

appointed as administrator three and a half years ago

for two reasons. First, because I could not yet name

my column, ‘From the Pastor.’ So the inspiration for

the title came from my appointment letter, which

began with the words, “For the glory of God…”

The second reason was that it also happens to be

the motto of the Jesuits who founded our historic

parish: “For the greater glory of God.” I’ve always

loved that saying because it reminds me that

everything that we do must be directed to God’s

greater glory and honor and not our own. All of our

work begins with God and likewise must flow back to

Him.

It’s with that in mind that I conclude my last

column by giving praise and glory to God for such a

blessed time here at St. Francis Xavier. You all have

been a great gift from God to me in countless ways.

I came to you as a first time administrator/pastor and

you embraced me as part of your family and

welcomed me into your homes and into your lives in

ways that have meant so much to me. I want to

thank you all for your generosity, support,

encouragement, prayers, deep faith, and the love you

have shown me during my time here. It has left a

lasting impression on me, for which I’m very grateful.

And now you will get to do the same for Fr. Ryan

Pineda. Fr. Ryan is a wonderful priest—he is truly a

good, holy man and a very kind and gentle soul.

I know you will love him, and trust that you will give

him your full support as you have done for me.

Know that you are all in my prayers, and in a special

way during this time of transition, and please pray for

me!

With much love and profound gratitude,

Father Rob
