Having demolished walls and partitions the light comes in everywhere. “We wanted light-filled rooms. The old house was quite dark and it’s amazing how light can affect your mood”,say the owners.04

THE IMPORTANCE OF CONVIVIALITYThe area for socialising in the kitchen, whether an island, counter or table, has pivotal importance in the design of the space: eating is not just for nourishment, for fulfilling a natural need, but instead for undergoing a sensorial experience.

L’area della convivialità in cucina, sia essa un’isola, una penisola o un tavolo, ha un’importanza centrale nel progetto dello spazio : non si mangia più solo per nutrirsi, per soddisfare un bisogno fisiologico, ma per vivere un’esperienza sensoriale.

In contemporary living spaces the separation between different functions is not so distinct and clear; this is particularly true of the kitchen, where we study, work at the computer or watch TV as well as cook.

EMOTIONS AND NOT jUST fUNCTIONS IN THE KITCHENThe kitchen area has to be comfortable and functional yet still excite. The table, lit in the best possible way, setting off the dishes, becomes a sort of stage where each person at the table becomes part of the action which moves forward along the cloth yet where improvisation is essential.
