    Introduction

I've decided to share some of my occult group's rituals, methods andtechniques in this wonderful book, 'Power Magick'. With the precision of an arrowand the aim of a bow, lets discover, together, the power of magick.

The rituals in this book have been passed down for almost two centuries. Theyhave proven to aid our intent of empowerment in the creation of our world as desired. We will go over several rituals in addition to other modalities of thinking and action

that we implement on a regular basis (whether yearly, monthly, weekly or daily). Asthe title says, this is Chaos Magick for everyday use.

Some of these rituals, I have taught to others. However, that involves just a

select few who have attended my classes over the years. Other than that, only those inmy occult group, my immediate family and my magick brethren have learned theserituals. However, now, I extend this to YOU, my extended M.A.P. (Magick AndProsperity) family.

Whether you keep this information secret for yourself or will share others isup to you. We all are aware of the code of the occult to keep things within. However,as I said many times before in my classes, and in other books - experience teaches.

Documentation expands learning. With learning comes light. And with light comes

the growth of consciousness. This is how one grows with the empowering method thatis Chaos Magick.

When performing magick, it's often very difficult to 'let go' of the need to SEE

the results. I'm sure, also, you've often heard the idea that if you ponder and ponder, almost lusting for results, they fail. There's some truth to that. The best magickusually occurs when you are able to 'let go' of the need for results after completingyour ritual. The secret? Dont lust. JustKnow.

So, it is indeed wise to 'let go' of the magick after performing these rituals in

this book, or any rituals for that matter. You will be, in a sense, 'getting out of the way'of the magick. It's almost like you are saying, 'Alright, Universe. Work your magick"After all, isn't this what it's all about - The Magick Of The Universe.

Now, for those who may have difficulty letting go, there are many ways. One

way is to have complete 100% trust in YOUR magick. Of course, it is understoodthat you are performing magick because you REALLY want something. So, of course, the desire is going to be there. But that's also another part of it. DESIRE IS OK! Yes.Reread that. It's true.

So, if some time after a ritual - you see yourself thinking about how the result

will come to form - it's Ok! Don't panic. Just comfort yourself in knowing that theresult is coming. And let it go. Don't worry or think about how. Simply know that,

somehow, someway, the magick will show its result in, well - a magickal way. This is a simple, yet POWERFUL technique. It's simple because it gives you

permission to 'think' about your ritual, without LUSTING for result. At the same time, you are showing your trust in the result in your affirmation that what you desire willhappen - you don't know how.

So, desire your result. Don't lust. Trust. Know it. Remember,

    Knowing is half the magick!

    The Skeptical Ego

Prior to joining M.A.P, when I was in the regular community for the early

years of my childhood, I was always told that there is no such thing as magick. And ifthinking people go to think tanks, where do skeptics go?

Being ever antagonistic, if I told a skeptic that I cast a magick spell and it

worked, the skeptic would say that I got lucky.

What is luck? Coincidence? Isnt magick also a coincidence? So whatactually makes a coincidence? Context and awareness.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    8/65

You probably think coincidence is rare because your recognition ofcoincidence is sporadic. But, to test the theory, try bibliomancy (although any bookwill probably work): close your eyes and ask a question you want answered, open the

Bible, and put your finger randomly, anywhere. The passage will surprisingly berelated to your question, if you abandon that psychic censor and imagine that thebook could actually reply.

What is magick? Simply, its employing an elixir vitae and intellectual

sharpening to achieve a goal, whatever that may be.Magick is not metaphysical. It can be metaphysical, and that notion definitely

strengthens the elixir vitae and the intellectual sharpening. Are elixir vitas, or sugar pills, real? Even if you are skeptical, placebos are

continually used in medicine. Its giving a patient a placebo and telling them it is awonderful medicine. In fact, any new drug has to outperform placebos in clinicaltrials if it hopes to become patented.

Placebo effects are sometimes difficult to beat. They can cure the worst

illnesses. Another pseudomedicine, homeopathy, has no sound scientific support, but it also works: perhaps its due to the placebo effect?

So, if placebos actually work, imagine what would happen if you could applythat power to any aspect of your life?

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    9/65

Intellectual sharpening just means planting an anticipated outcome intosomeones head. How can this help? If you expect an outcome, you will be more

aware of opportunities that can help you achieve your goal. There is a fine linebetween success and failure. This psychological honing can be the boost yourconfidence needs.

Let me speak again of MAGICK, not of sugar pills and intellectual

sharpening. Why? Because magick is your employment of sugar pills andintellectual sharpening to achieve any goal you wish. It doesnt matter what form ofmagick you employ, it works!

To ensure success, you must know what you want, believe in the magickal

powers you employ, and disengage your ego through gnosis- as encountered inmeditation, sexual orgasm, exhaustion, rapture from ceremony.

Instead of asking about the veracity of magick, ask yourself why you are not

using it?? It could improve your success if you employ it!

Magick: The RitualThe first part of every ceremony is the banishing; the second the invoking.-Crowley, Magick, p. 104.

Ritual is considered to be the heart and soul of magick. Magickal results arethe fruits of rituals. When we want to change the circumstances or the environment,we perform a ritual, a magickal process or ceremony. While we commonly associaterituals with active magick, rituals also work with passive magick. Many times, themagickal results sought appear discrete and understated in reality. While skepticsmay chalk it up to coincidence, the effects are genuine. Any objective sought throughmagick should never be taken flippantly.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    11/65

A successful magick practice relies upon having strong belief in itseffectiveness. So, faith must be the most basic ritual. Otherwise stated, the act ofardently believing the magick will achieve your goals should be a magickal rite in

itself. Fervent belief is no weaker than the most complicated ritual. Improvedconcentration, using techniques like creative visualization, vibrant imagination, andcontrolled breathing can intensify the results.

Creative Visualization: simply stated, it means that you need to actively

visualize your results if you want to achieve them. Keep the visual as clear andspecific as possible. Imagine that you are physically doing the action. Visualize theact intensely and vividly, and concentrate profoundly for a few moments; try holdingyour breath as you do so. You will feel the craving and energy surging inside you.All at once, release this power from your mind and visualize it intensifying the desire,as if filling and coloring a blank picture. Envision all the energy exploding out of youin every direction out into the universe causing the cosmos to shift in response to theforce of unleashed energy. Exhale while you imagine this to create a physical aspectto the experience. Become aware of the energy draining out of you. Lastly, completethe ritual by firmly believing that you achieved your goal, the results are alreadytangible, and even say a phrase out loud to commemorate the successful completionof the task such as So be it! or It is done!

Basic Parts of a Ritual:Rituals are usually more ceremonial than the technique mentioned above, but

all rituals, regardless of complexity, must have 3 basic parts.1. Imaging

    2. Building3. FiringSometimes, a ritual must be repeated often, even daily, to overcome obstacles

such as achievement complication or feeble conviction in the magick.Magickal Circle: magick circles are often performed as an important part of a

ritual. The practice began in Medieval times when the magickians, believing them tobe crucial, placed great importance on the precision of the circle. They fabricatedornate designs with complex tiers of words and symbols. The circle must remain

unbroken. During the ceremony, the magickian and participants stood inside thecircle. The first task, banishment, was performed to expel any evil forces from insidethe circle using a pentagram or other technique. Nowadays, magickians draw thecircles on the floor using a variety of materials such as chalk, rock salt, paint, or rope.Even today, the circle offers magickal protection for the magickian, especially whendealing with disinclined spirits and tasks. Circles also contain and focus energytoward the ritual until the magickian is ready to unleash it. The circle is only anothersymbol, but research is being conducted to determine feasibility of supplementationwith electronic equipment such as Faraday shields (offer electrostatic charges).

Artificial ElementalsArtificial elementals, called familiars by Ophiel, are useful for certain tasks:1. Invisible spectator, reporting what it observes

    2. Psychic sentinel3. Healing practices4. Can provide other assistance as wellYou can produce your own artificial elemental, of course. But, as in all

magickal practices, you must firmly believe the task created results regardless ofwhether you notice any. You can create these little critters and not be aware of them(especially if you are not clairvoyant enough to sense their presence). Another finepractice as you use magick is to never ignore any force you have set forth. You may

sense an elemental even when you may not see it. Caution: Do not use artificialelementals for any form of aversive magick!! They can be wicked little beasties topurge. If you should create one by accident, you will have to re-absorb its energythrough your will, or even through exorcism.

    14/65

How to Create an Artificial Elemental:Artificial elementals are throughtforms bolstered with emotion.

Here are some guidelines for creating your own personal artificial elemental

for a myriad of purposes. Refer to an aura chart to determine what color to assign toyour elemental based on its intended function. If the purpose of it is just for generalassistance, a good color choice is apple green. Next, choose a shape: do you want itto resemble an animal of any kind? If you are not sure of a shape, a good place tostart would be with a circle or a cloud. Once you establish the color and shape, youcan create your elemental through ritual. Creative visualization works well here. You

may find it helpful to visualize the form glowing in front of you if your room isdarkened.

You can communicate with your elemental through simple talking, creativevisualization, or telepathy. Because your elemental is closely linked to yoursubconscious mind, your attitudes may interfere with its effectivenessespecially intasks you do not believe it capable of doing. So, unwavering belief is essential to theefficacy of your elemental. Consider your artificial elemental to be an externalextension of your own personality.

Solar Magick RitualSolar magick is based on the idea that the Sun symbolizes the breathing life-

force manifesting in each living thing. Also called spirit or soul, this life-force is

acknowledged in many ancient cultures: in Hebrew, its called nephesh; in Sanskrit, atman; in Greek, psyche. Whether you believe that there is or is not life afterdeath, or whether the soul can exist or not after the body has dissolved, is irrelevant, because one of the basic meanings of soul in these ancient cultures is the activity oflife that all living organisms exhibit while alive. The Sunrise represents the rise ofyour own life-force, the time when your soul is at its magickal and potent peak.Sunrise is thus one of the best times to engage in magickal acts of empowering yournephesh, your atman, your psyche.

Solar magick is ideally enacted outdoors, at a location where you can see theSun rise over the horizon at Sunrise. A good place (if you are on the East Coast)would be the beach. Perhaps there are some hills or mountains nearby where youcould ascend to the tops and view the morning Sun. A convenient option might be alocal park, garden, greenspace, or your own backyard. The ritual below is the fullritual at oceanside. You might want to shorten the ritual, skipping several parts, if youplan to do it in a public space. The full form of the ritual can be done at the equinoxesand the solstices.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    16/65

The ritual comprises four parts, each part representing one of the fourelements of the ancient world: fire, air, water, and earth. The ritual involves what are

known as the inner Sun and the outer Sun. The outer Sun is the hot, spherical massaround which the Earth orbits. The inner Sun includes the life-force, the breathingprocess, the sense of internal energy that is used to accomplish your personal aims.Cultivating your inner Sun is necessary before you can fulfill or accomplish your trueWill. The inner Sun is the shining star that lives in each of us. The Sun referred toin the ritual below is, at times, the inner Sun; at times, the outer Sun; but ultimately itsimultaneously refers to both the inner Sun and the outer Sun.

The first part is the invocation of the power of the Sun. The second part is the

contemplation of the Sun, using the breathing as an anchor for the contemplation (andpossible visualization). The third part is the cultivation of strong positive emotiondirected towards the Sun. The fourth and final part is the utilization of magickal toolsin a ritual empowerment of the Sun.

Invocation can be done by writing your invocatory hymns, or by adopting a

hymn that has already been written and has been read, recited, and contemplated onfor centuries. Start the invocatory hymn about 10 minutes before Sunrise; it might bea bit dark outside, so bring a flashlight to read the hymn (if you dont have itmemorized). The hymn can be long or short. If short, you might want to chant the

hymn more than once. So, having given the logic behind the invocation (and havingshown how creative you can get when adopting this ritual for your own use), here isan example of a Solar Chaos magick ritual, inspired by Hellenistic element theory andRig Vedic hymnology:

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    17/65

Part I: Hymn to the SunStand facing the point on the horizon at which the Sun will rise. Slowly take

three deep breaths, and then three normal breaths: dont rush; enjoy your awareness ofthe breaths. In a loud voice, vigorously chant:

His brilliant light-rays support Him as He moves across the sky-- the Sun who knows how all beings live --and all beings can see Him if they just look. The night stars and their bright spark fade away like dew on morning

grass,as the Sun arises at dawn.

His prophetic beams are visible all over the human world, like pillars of fire that warm the mists.

Nimble and charming are You, O Sun, creator of the radiant, shining light on all worlds. You visit the armies of Heaven, You descend here to Earth,

Where all can contemplate Your light.

Watch the deeds of humans with the same eyethat You use to watch the mountains and the oceans.

Rolling through the air, Your rays brighten our days, O Sun,O Sun, who celebrates every birth of every new life.

    Victory to the Sun!

After chanting this three times, the sun should be beginning to rise at thehorizon.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    18/65

Part II: Contemplation of the SunAs the Sun reaches the horizon, and as it just rises above the horizon, gaze at

the Sun. Be careful not to gaze at it when the Sun becomes too bright above thehorizon. With arms outstretched in front of you, at a 45-degree angle to the ground,

palms facing up, silently repeat Welcome, Bright Sun three times; while inhalingand exhaling, inhale the positive energy of the Sun, and exhale all darkness. Say outloud:

As the Sun ascends, so may Light ascend in my mind and bodyAs the Sun ascends, so may Love ascend in my mind and body.

As the Sun ascends, so may Life ascend in my mind and body.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    19/65

Part III: Feeling the SunWhen the Sun has become too bright to gaze at directly, close your eyes, place

your dominant hand over the heart area, and place the other hand on top of thedominant hand, both palms down. Keep facing the Sun, feeling its heat on your face.

Imagine and feel that the Sun is now in your heart. Feel its brightness, power, andconstant giving of light, love, and life. At each cycle of in-breath and out-breath,silently repeat Light, Love, Life while feeling the Sun in your heart. Feel that theSun is now part of you; and that you are part of the Sun. Continue this contemplativefeeling until you are satisfied that you have felt deeply and steadily.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    20/65

Part IV: Embodying the SunWithout looking directly at the Sun, open your eyes. Place your hands at the

side of your body. Say verbally, with all of your energy:

O Sun, in this place, [name of location], I have no pentacle, chalice, atham, wand, nor altar. I will return to the source of tools of magick, to themajestic purity of Nature Herself. Let the sand be my pentacle, the ocean mychalice, the breeze my atham, the sunlight my wand, and my body-mind myaltar.

At the waters edge, while kneeling down, with your forefinger draw a circlein the sand, and say:

O Shining Ones of the earth, I embody your stability.Still kneeling, use both hands to form a cup, scoop up a handful of ocean

water, and say:O Shining Ones of the waters, I embody your flow.Standing up, breathe in and breathe out once, and say:

O Shining Ones of the air, I embody your movement.Outstretch your hands to horizon, looking at the horizon, where the ocean

    meets the sky, and say:

O Shining Ones of the fire, I embody your passion.

O Sun in the heart, I will use my strength, vitality, and energy to persist, toendure, to struggle, to shine!

    To close the ritual, say:

May the Sun Rise in the Heart of All!Aum Shalom Aum!

Lunar Magick RitualLunar Chaos magick is not so much about self-empowerment as it is about the

empowerment of your family, friends, and community, even including all living things

in the cosmos and by empowering those others you are also empoweringyourself. This is why in traditional astrology the Sun and the Moon are considered tobe two different aspects of the same heavenly body: Empowerment of self only workswhen you also empower others; and empowerment of others only works if your ownself is included in that empowerment. One type of empowerment needs the other.

Start the invocatory hymn about 10 minutes before Moonrise. The hymn can

be long or short. If short, you might want to chant the hymn more than once. Chooseone person to be the priest: the priest can be male or female. Ideally, the priest should

have the hymns and chanting already memorized; the same person should not be thepriest for two consecutive rituals. The different dance movements represent thedifferent phases of the Moon. This Lunar Chaos magickal ritual was inspired byHellenistic element theory and Rig Vedic hymnology.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    22/65

Part I: Hymn to the MoonLet everyone form a circle, holding hands, with everyone facing the center of

the circle. At 11 minutes before Moonrise, the priest leaves the circle, and everyoneelse establishes the circle again. The priest positions him or herself between the circle

and the point on the horizon at which the Moon will rise. At 10 minutes beforeMoonrise, the priest turns his or her back to the circle and faces toward the point ofthe imminent Moonrise; the priest shouts: Aum Namah Somaya! meaningAdoration to the Moon! In a loud voice, everyone chants:

    We sing with clear words,

we praise You, O Moon; With our divine singing,we invite You to visit us, most generous One.

Giver of wealth, Physician to the sick,

Provider of abundant food,O Moon, be our friend.O Moon, be as happy in our heart, as a cow in verdant pasture,or as a young wife in her new house.O Moon, Divine Mind, the person who enjoys Your friendship,

becomes a friend to all living beings.Give us the courage to protect those who need protection;make us fearless in the face of fear:

Let us be a friend to the friendless, O Moon.O Moon, grow stronger, grow brighter, grow greatly!

From every corner of the cosmos, all powers center in You:You are where all light finds rest.

O Moon, who makes us happy, grow brighter, grow greatly, grow stronger!

All of Your Light brightens us, empowers us, and prospers us!

May all beings be happy! May all beings be free from suffering!May all beings achieve their goals!

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    23/65

Continue chanting this (once, twice, three times, or even more) until the Moonrises.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    24/65

Part II: Contemplation of the Moon

As the Moon reaches the horizon, and as it just rises above thehorizon, the priest rejoins the circle. Now, the two people closest to the Moonrise willseparate from one another, breaking the circle, and thus creating a semi-circle, with

the semi-circles opening facing the Moonrise. The semi-circle shape should alloweveryone to face and see the Moonrise. Unlike the Sun, the Moon can be freely gazedat without harm or danger. Still holding hands, everyone raises their hands in unison, and repeat out loud Welcome, Bright Moon three times. Next, everyone chant outloud:

As the Moon rises, so may Victory arise in all!As the Moon rises, so may Confidence arise in all!As the Moon rises, so may Joy arise in all!

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    25/65

Part III: Feeling the MoonEveryone sits down on the ground or in a chair, in a meditative pose. Keep

facing the Moonrise, imagine feeling the coolness of the Moon descend into yourbody, from head to feet and back up to the head. Imagine and feel that the power of

the Moon settles on the top of the head. Feel its coolness, power, and constant givingof victory, confidence, and joy. At each cycle of in-breath and out-breath, silentlyrepeat Victory, Confidence, Joy while feeling the Moon on the top of your head.Feel that the Moon is now part of you; and that you are part of the Moon. Continuethis contemplative feeling for 30 cycles of breath-in-and-breath-out.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    26/65

    Part IV: Embodying the Moon

Everyone stands up. The priest pours the contents of the consecratedar of mead, stout, lager, or some other deep, rich alcoholic beverage, into each

participants mug or cup. At each pouring, the priest recites:

Let us invite Victory with dance, drinking the essence of the Moon. Each one (except the priest and any designated drivers, who remain totally

sober) consumes the liquor. Now, everyone (including the priest) commences with ecstatic dancing. Its

best to have some persons who are part of the group play some drums and/or otherinstruments; you could also play a recorded music selection, of a high energy level, suitable for dancing. There is no particular dance to be done; just feel the Moon and

dance as you feel moved to do so. Dont hold back; dance as if your life dependedupon it. Consume more alcohol, but stop as soon as you notice a slight inebriation. Dothis until everyone is exhausted or has stopped drinking. Close the ritual by everyoneshouting:

May the Moon shine Her blessings above the heads of all!Aum Shalom Aum!

Ritual for the Empowerment of All Beings

This ritual is done at the Spring Equinox (when the length of the dayand of the night are of equal length), which is usually the 20thor 21stof March. The

dates of the Jewish Holy Day of Pesach (Passover) and the Christian Holy Day ofEaster are calculated based on lunar phases after the Spring Equinox. This is acommunity ritual, but it can also be adapted for solitary use. This Chaotic ritual isinspired by Jewish Passover celebrations and Theravada Buddhist blessings.

The participants are seated at the table, or sitting in a circle. If at atable, the chanter is positioned at the head of the table.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    28/65

    I. Making WholeThe chanter pours wine into a cup, and water into a different cup, and chants

    the blessing over the cups:

Joyful are those who have devoted themselves to Wisdom andCompassion, the Father and Mother of the Cosmos, who make all beingsWhole and who brighten all bodies and minds.

    29/65

II. Washing IThe chanter drops a pinch of salt into a bowl of water, mixes it, and pours a

some of the salt-water into his/her hand, rubs hands together, and dries hands withtowel. The chanter passes the bowl to the person on his/her right, and that person also

washes his/her hand. The bowl is passed around the circle until everyone hasperformed the washing. [The salt and water represent earth and water, the twogrounding elements.]

    30/65

III. BotanicalThe chanter, with a new bowl, drops a pinch of salt into a bowl of water, and

dips a leaf of kale, nettle, or some other bitter green, into the water and eats it. Thebowl is passed around and each participant dips his/her bitter green in it and eats it.

[Living organisms represent the fire element, which here is now added to the earthand water elements.]

IV. BreadThe chanter takes one of the three portions of bread and breaks it in two. One

piece is returned to the other two portions of bread, and the other piece is set aside onanother tray. [The bread was cooked with yeast, which produces carbon dioxide,

causing the bread to rise during cooking. CO2represents the air element.]

    V. The AltarAt the center of the table, the chanter sets up the altar. The chanter lights a

candle, lights incense, pours water into a cup, and places a small piece of blackobsidian and clear quartz to the right of the cup. When lighting the candle, the chanter

points to the Sun. When lighting the incense, the chanter leads all in three deep in-and-out breaths. When pouring the water, the chanter smiles to all participants. Whenplacing the obsidian and quartz, the chanter taps the table twice with his left hand. Forat least 5 minutes, everyone contemplates the objects, the four elements representedby those objects, and how those elements can be used to end suffering and bring joyto all beings.

VI. For the Empowerment of All BeingsThe chanter chants to all:

    Inheritors of Wisdom and Compassion,

Let us sing for the Empowerment of All Beings.Everyone chants:

This is to be done by one who wants power,in the service of wisdom and compassion:

Consider deeply whether what you want to do,is the right thing to do, whether it stems from

    your true Will.

Do not do the slightest thingthat would contradict your true Will.Wish that all beings be joyful and powerful.Whatever beings exist,

whether strong or weak, big or small, obvious or invisible,

close or far, born or yet-to-be born.

May all beings be joyful and powerful.

Let no one hate another,or wish another to suffer.

May your life be one of integrity andopenness.

A mother would sacrifice her lifein order to save her infant child.Likewise, should one with powershow compassion to the powerless, whether human or non-human.Wish well upon the entire universe,

    Love with a heart unbounded:

    up, down, east, and west, north and south;

VII. The Song of the UniverseThe chanter states to all:

    Offspring of Wisdom and Compassion!

Let us sing the Song of the Universe, the story of how we appearedin the midst of this mysterious realm, the story of how we have not perfectly cared for our Earthly home, and the story of how we have the powerto change,

to grow. The chanter leads everyone in a rousing chant of the Song of the Universe

    (short version)

The Dark and the Light, the Yin and the Yang,This wonderful Cosmos shouts a Big Bang.

Photons, Electrons, Protons jostling for space,Stars and Galaxies with hydrogen embrace.

In one tiny corner of the cosmos expanding,

Our Sun hazy gases is now supplanting. Coalescing particles around the Sun,

The third rock is a special one.

DNA, plants, and animals galore,T. rex and the Dodo are unfortunately no more. This Blue Earth is the only home we all know,We commit to save it, and all life,

We who come, and we who go.So be it!

    VIII. Washing II

The chanter and participants wash their hands again, as before: The chanter

drops a pinch of salt into a bowl of water.

    IX. The Hymns of Gratefulness

The chanter leads all the participants in the Hymns of Gratefulness:

    Joyful are those who have devoted themselves to Wisdom andCompassion, the Father and Mother of the Cosmos. We are grateful for thefruits, herbs, and grains; for finned, feathered, and four-footed companions;

the products of millions of years of evolution.Joyful are those who have devoted themselves to Wisdom and

Compassion, the Father and Mother of the Cosmos. We are grateful for thebread and the wine, the product of thousands of years of human wisdom, science, and technology, the ability to combine fire, air, water, and earth.

The chanter chooses one participant, of the opposite gender, who chants:

Joyful are those who have devoted themselves to Wisdom andCompassion, the Father and Mother of the Cosmos. Let the food we are aboutto eat, be food that energizes all of us to embody the Wisdom and Compassionof the Cosmos, and to empower all living beings in Life, in Light, and in Love.

    X. The Meal

The chanter and the participants festively and joyfully enjoy the meal, which

has no set menu. It could be a breakfast, a br/lunch, or a dinner.

    XI. The After-Meal

After the meal is finished, the cup of water and the piece of bread that was set

aside earlier is now fed to the non-human (often, a dog) that has been invited to themeal. The chanter, barely audibly, sings:

Human or non-human, all beings want to be happy. May they be happy!

The human chanter and participants then drink the cup of wine and eat thebread that was not set aside: The chanter pours a bit of wine in each persons cup; andthe chanter takes a knife and divides the bread into the appropriate number of pieces(or, if the bread is large enough, the chanter simply breaks off the appropriate numberof pieces).

    XII. Closing

The chanter leads everyone in the final chant:

Joyful are those who have devoted themselves to Wisdom andCompassion, the Father and Mother of the Cosmos, who energize all beingsand who empower all bodies and minds.

Finding and Creating Your Person NumberThe Greek philosopher Pythagoras thought that numbers were a basic element

of the cosmos. Modern physics would not exist were it not for higher mathematics.

Science in general is based on the idea that there is an order, a set of patterns, thatmake up the universe; and that these patterns can be discovered by the human mind.Numerology, tarot, and astrology are also based on this idea of the universality anddiscoverability of patterns. For instance, the soul, the self, the spirit, is orderly linkedto certain numbers, certain tarot cards, and certain astrological entities. Empoweringof the soul, then, can be hastened by the magickal empowering of the relevantnumbers, tarot, and astrological entities.

We can start with numbers, since they are more universal and experiential than

tarot cards or astrology; that is, everyone knows the numbers from 1 to 9, whether youare magickian or not. In the numerological system commonly used in the West today, each letter is given a number, 1 through 9; and each number has a different set ofmeanings. A is 1; B is 2; and so forth to I, which is 9. J is 1; K is 2; and soforth. The last letter, Z, is 8. Each numbers basic meaning is quite simple, too: 1means independence; 2 means relationship; 3 relates to vigor; 4 relates to practicalwork; 5 is connected to learning; 6 is connected to sensuality; 7 points to solitude; 8points to success; 9 establishes universal compassion. (The meanings associated withthese numbers also differ from one system to another.) Thus, who you are in general, can be represented by a set of numbers and even a single number. This single number

(or set of numbers) can then be used in magickal rituals, as a reminder of the role thatyou can play in the magickal act.

Take your full name, ideally, as it appears on your birth certificate. As anexample, lets take Edward Alexander Crowley. Adding up the numerical values ofall of the letters (E = 5; d = 4; and so forth), the total numerical value is 105.

Numbers with more than one digit need to be reduced to one digit by adding theseparate digits: 1 + 0 + 5 = 6. Six is the number of sensuality, which happens to fitCrowley quite well. So, 6 would be the number that represents Crowleys overallpersonality. Numerologists would interpret this to mean that the name EdwardAlexander Crowley is the name of someone who appreciates (more than most) thesensual enjoyments of the world, that the name somehow is associated with anincrease in that persons sensual interests.

However, magick is about accomplishing something new. If you calculate your

person number (given to you by, say, your parents), and you dont like the meaningassociated with that number, then you could change your name to a name that has adifferent numerical profile, thus generating a different set of characteristics linked toyour personality. If you see yourself as a successful businessperson, and your birthnames person number is 9, then you might want to change your name to one that hasthe person number of 8, or 4.

Edward Alexander Crowley changed his name (for non-numerologicalreasons, perhaps) to Aleister Crowley. Aleister Crowley, when convertednumerologically, becomes 73, which reduces to 10, and then finally to 1, the number

of independence. The idea of independence certain fits Crowleys becoming thefounder of a new religion, Thelema. It would not be a surprise to find that Crowley, though having mostly non-numerological reasons for changing his name, was alsoaware of the numerological change that would result from a name change. The nameAleister Crowley supported any intention toward independence that Crowleyalready possessed and strengthened it further.

A magickal approach to numerology is an approach that might involve

officially changing ones name, or simply informally adopting a new name or some

variation of ones official name. Instead of being known as Robert B. Smith, youmight sign your name Bob B. Smith because you want to cultivate thenumerological qualities of the name variant. You dont have to change your wholename, either: you could simply change your first name, or middle name, or nickname.Instead of using your first name Theodore, you might want to use Ted or Theo, depending upon the magickal intention you have for your life. If you marry someoneelse, whether you adopt your spouses last name might depend upon whether you

want to cultivate the numerological qualities of that potential new name.

    41/65

Tarot Chaos MagickOnce youve decided which numerological quality empowers you, you can

cultivate that quality not only by changing your name or adopting a variation of your

name, but also by contemplating the imagery depicted on the tarot card associatedwith that number. If we take the Thoth Tarot deck (painted by Lady Frieda Harris, under the direction of Crowley), we see that each of the 22 Major Arcana cards isassociated with a number 0 (The Fool) to 21 (The Universe). Since no one has a namewith a numerical value of 0, The Fool is considered to be Major Arcana 22.

When determining which of the Major Arcana is associated with your name,

dont reduce the numerical value of your name if that value is 22 or less, or stopreducing the number of your name once you reach a value of 22 or less. For instance,

Aleister Crowley calculates to 73, with reduces to 10, the number of the MajorArcanum titled Fortune. If you are thinking about adopting a new name (eitherofficially or informally), you might want to consider how it relates to the MajorArcana. The image on your Major Arcana can them serve as a type of totem, a symbolthat represents yourself, in some very profound way. You can use that Major Arcanaimage as a representation of yourself within certain ritual activities.

But perhaps you dont want to change your name, officially or otherwise, but

you do want to adopt certain qualities symbolized on the Major Arcana. In this case, you can magickally imagine that you already have those qualities, that you already

embody those qualities, symbolized on a particular card. No matter which MajorArcanum you use, the basic magickal outline can be the same. Lets use the exampleof Major Arcanum X, Fortune.

    1. Get into your meditative position. Radiate good-will to all

    beings.

    2. Place the Fortune card at eye-level.

    3. Breathe for 10 cycles, slowly, deeply.

    4. Visually contemplate the imagery on the card. Notice whatthe characters and forces do, how they interact, what is changing orstaying the same; notice the colors, objects, emotional qualities of thecharacters. Notice as much as you can (without becoming too obsessiveabout it).

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    42/65

    5. Close your eyes. Mentally and emotionally contemplate theimage of the card in your mind. Try to re-create as much detail as youcan. Try to re-create the feeling that seeing the card produced in you.

    6. The Fortune card should produce a feeling of prosperity, material and spiritual. (If it doesnt do that for you, choose anothercard.) As you mentally and emotionally contemplate this feeling, feelthat you are already, at this moment, prosperous and rich, both in termsof material possessions and spiritual reality.

    7. In order to strengthen this feeling of prosperity, play some

music and dance for about 15 minutes, all the while keeping this feelingof prosperity. Dance intensely, so that you feel really tired after 15minutes. The music chosen should support, or at least not undermine, the feeling of prosperity.

    8. Return to your meditative position and rest, with open eyescontemplating the tarot card again, and feeling the sense of prosperitythat Fortune produces.

    9. After a few minutes of restful contemplation, close the ritual

by radiating good-will to all beings.

You can also use tarot imagery in support of a particular goal. Which of theMajor Arcana is supportive or consistent with your magickal goal? Is the goal one ofbalancing two or more forces (VIII, Adjustment)? Gaining energy (XI,Strength/Lust)? Improving your intimate relationships (VI, Love)? The Major

Arcanum that supports your intention can be placed in various parts of your home, car, or altar, where you can be reminded of it throughout the day. Going beyond tarot, you can also use everyday images of, say, Adjustment, or Strength/Lust, or Love, and

place them in places where they will be seen on a daily basis. For Adjustment, images of judges, courtrooms, or soldiers would be relevant; for Strength/Lust,images of lions, fire, or beautiful women; for Love, marriage ceremonies, roses, orcandles.

Lets say that you want to increase your efficiency as a reader, because youre

a student in college. You can incorporate a particular Major Arcanum into your

    magickal ritual

    1. Establish a meditative and focused position. Breathe indeeply, and radiate good-will.

    2. Light a yellow candle on the altar. (Yellow is associated withintelligence and wisdom.) Light a green candle on the altar. (Green isassociated with learning and reading.) Affirm out loud:

My ability to read increases day by day. I calmly open the book, look at the table of contents, and read the introduction, to get the generalargument presented in the book. Closing the book, I write with my ownhandwriting the main points presented in the introduction. I havent yetunderstood something, until Ive written it in my own handwriting.

After affirming, you contemplate on the affirmation for a few moments, looking at the burning flames while doing so.

    3. Then, shout at the top of your lungs, with as much force,

    energy, and intention as possible:

Yah! Yee! Yuu! Yay! Yoh!Jah! Jee! Juu! Jay! Joh![These syllables have millennia of mantric force behind

    them.]

Burn incense on the altar. The ideal incense would be lemongrass(for knowledge) or honeysuckle (for studying); or any other incense whosescent inspires your intellect. As the incense starts burning, affirm out loud:

As the sweet scent permeates the air, my thirst for knowledgepermeates my body. I remove distractions that distract me from reading.Silence is my friend; my thoughts are clear and bright. Knowledge is as

sweet as honey, and its aroma is intoxicating.

    4. Pour lemongrass tea into the cup. Slowly drink the tea. (Donot add sugar or anything else.) After you drink all of the tea, affirm outloud:

My ability to read flows like a river down a hill, until it reaches

the ocean. The river overcomes obstacles, goes around barriers, erodesmountains. Nothing can prevent it from reaching the ocean of wisdom.

    5. Put the Major Arcanum on the altar. For reading andknowledge, the Arcanum of the Hierophant would be good. Look at thesymbols depicted in this Major Arcanum. The Hierophant is a priestly

figure of wisdom and knowledge, grounded on the earth, whilereaching towards the heavens. As you gaze at the Hierophant, affirmout loud:

I am a student of knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge allows meto prosper in the material world. Wisdom allows me to prosper in thespiritual world. A true Hierophant embodies both knowledge andwisdom. Reading helps me gather knowledge; wisdom helps me to applythat knowledge.

    So be it!

    6. Imagine creating a sigil based on the Major Arcanum image.

For now, just imagine what this sigil would look like. Before you go tobed, ask your dream-self for input on what such a sigil would look like.Draw the sigil over the next several days. Eventually, you could use thesigil, instead of the Major Arcanum image, within your rituals.

    7. Sit calmly for a few minutes. Radiate good-will to all, and

exit the magickal space and re-enter the everyday world.

The Moon as Time IndicatorMagickal practices can be performed at any time, but it is best to do them

when other, compatible, events in the natural world are occurring. Some of most

powerful natural events are the phases of the Moon, and each Moon phases can beconnected to a particular magickal intention. The major phases are the New Moon, theFirst Quarter, the Full Moon, and the Last Quarter. The power of the phases of theMoon is undoubtedly reflected in the weekly Jewish, Christian, and Muslims days ofworship: each week represents one of the major phases of the Moon. The worship ofAbrahamic deities is thus connected to the Moon phases; likewise, magickal practicescan be made more efficacious by doing them during a major Moon phase.

The New Moon occurs when the Moon is between the Earth and the Sun.

Astrologically, the Moon is conjunct the Sun (that is, at the same point on theastrological chart). In the Hindu tradition, the New Moon represents the union of theGod Shiva (the Sun) and the Goddess Shakti (the Moon). Many calendars of ancientcultures (including modern Jewish and some Hindu ones) started each month at aNew Moon (whereas in the modern Western calendar, the beginning of each month isnot defined by the Moon phase).

The power of the New Moon is the power of new beginnings: at the NewMoon, the Moon is at its dimmest, darkest, but it is also at the beginning of its growthinto brighter and brighter phases. Magick that energizes the beginning of a major

project is best done at the New Moon or a few days after. The New Moon is alsoconnected to fire, because the Sun (fire) has darkened the Moon (water), leading tothe dominance of fire over water. Magickal rituals related to fire, to passion, to light, can also fruitfully be done at the New Moon. One caveat, though: love magick shouldnot be done during a New Moon, because even though love is connected to fire, it alsoconnected to water, and the Moon during a New Moon is at its weakest in terms of thequality of water.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    47/65

The Full Moon occurs when the Earth is between the Moon and the Sun.Astrologically, the Moon is opposing the Sun (that is, at the point opposite that of theSun, on astrological chart). Some Hindu calendars have the new month start at the

Full Moon. In Hindu astrology, the Full Moon is the occasion of the full strength ofthe Moon; and people born during a Full Moon are believed to have very strongminds (because in Hindu astrology the Moon represents the mind) or emotions(according to many Western astrologers). Both the mind, in general, and emotions, inparticular, are connected to the water element, and thus, a Full Moon is good fordoing magick connected to water, to love and compassion, to fertility and growth.Indeed, the Full Moon, being the height of the Moons power, is a good time formagick that seeks to provide the greatest power to the accomplishment of a particulargoal. Healing magick would be best done at this time, for instance. The Full Moon isalso a good time for wealth magick: the Goddess Shakti (the Moon) is at Herstrongest, and Shakti represents the abundance of the material world.

The New Moonand the Full Moon are the most powerful of the four major

Moon phases, because they symbolize the height of the powers of the two pureelements, fire and water, respectively. Fire is purely masculine, or yang, and wateris purely feminine, or yin. The other two major Moon phases, the First Quarter andthe Last Quarter, symbolize air and earth, respectively. Air magick is related tobreathing, to movement, to the intellect; and earth magick is related to materialabundance, finances, and endurance. The First Quarter is connected to growth magick

(wanting something to grow), and the Last Quarter, to decrease magick (wantingsomething to decrease).

Building a House: New Moon RitualLets say that you want to move from your old apartment to a new house, and

you bought a few acres on which to build the house. This would be a good occasion to

perform a New Moon ritual, because youre beginning to start a project, and the NewMoon can add the energy of growth and success to your plans. You can afford to waitfor the next New Moon because building a house is a month-long project anyway, andthere is no real need to rush it. Due to the fact that you now own the land, you canperform this New Moon ritual outside, on the land on which the house will be built.

    1. Due to the immense cost and energy that will go into

building the house, you would want to plan the New Moon ritual weeksahead. Lets say that the New Moon will occur on 15 April, and its

now 1 April. In preparation for the ritual, engage in fasting for the nexttwo weeks. It need not be fasting from all foods; It could be fastingfrom all meat, or all meat and dairy. The important point is to make it adoable, yet challenging, fast.

    2. When you start your fast, set up, on the property, an altar flat

on the ground. This will give the altar that much more grounding andconnection to the land. The altar could be a simple slab of marble, orgranite, or concrete, or wood. Make sure its not directly underanything, like a tree, so that it can remain relatively clean. Also, in front

of the altar, dig a depression. This will be the fire pit during the ritual.Collect some kindling and wood, and place nearby (but not out in theopen).

    3. On the 15thof April, 45 minutes before Sunrise, place thekindling and wood into the depression, and make a fire, sit in front ofthe fire, chanting:

As the Sun rises, so this fire rises. With the Sun rise, the New Moon also

    rises.

    4. Sit before the fire for a few moments, feeling its energy. Now, burn some frankincense on the altar, chanting:

Let the incense permeate the space where the future home is to be

    built -- on this spot.

    5. Pour some wine in the cup, and place on the altar, chanting:

The wine, product of the vine, may you be a sign of the fertility of the

    land.

    6. Still sitting on the ground, touch the ground with yourdominant hands fingers, chanting:

May this ground be the beginning of a well-built home.

    7. Continue contemplating and meditating before the fire and

the altar. When you feel you are ready, pour the wine, along with riceand flower petals into the fire. Exclaim:

    So be it!

May all beings be happy!8. After about 10 minutes, extinguish the fire.

The Sun as Time IndicatorIn addition to the phases of the Moon, the position of the Sun in its daily

course in the sky is also an important factor when deciding when to do magick.

Somewhat like the four major phases of the Moon, the Sun passes through four majorpoints in the sky: Sunrise, Midheaven, Sunset, and the Imum Coeli. The Midheaven isthe highest point the Sun can reach in the sky on a particular day and in a particularearthly region. The Imum Coeli is exactly opposite the Midheaven, and is the lowestpoint the Sun can reach: You wont see the Sun at the IC, because its always nightwhen it happens. If the Midheaven occurs around noon, then the IC occurs aroundmidnight.

Among the four Sun positions, Sunrise and the Midheaven are the more

powerful times. Whereas each Moon phase is connected to a particular element, aparticular goal, and so forth; the Sun positions are connected to particular astrologicalhouses: the 1sthouse, the 10thhouse, the 7thhouse, and 4thhouse. An astrological chartis divided into 12 houses, each house spanning (in general) 30 degrees within thewhole 360 degrees spanning the sky. These 12 houses are 12 divisions in the sky, andeach house represents a particular set of ideas, entities, and persons. The horizon pointof the Sunrise marks the center of the 1sthouse; and usually, 15 degrees above and 15degrees below that point make up the 1sthouse. The 1sthouse relates to your overallvitality and personality. Likewise, the Midheaven point marks the center of the 10th

house (the house of your actions and goals); the location of Sunset, the center of the

7thhouse (the house of your spouse and those who possess what you lack); and theImum Coeli point marks the center of the 4thhouse (the house of your happiness andhome). Magick performed at any of these four positions will be strengthenedaccordingly.

Another powerful way to practice magick based on the Moon or Sun position

involves using your own astrological chart and your own Moon or Sun. For instance, lets say that you want to perform a ritual meant to strengthen your health afterrecovery from a cold or flu. If youre just recovering from an illness, then you

probably dont want to wait until the Moon enters into one of the four major phases,or into the New Moon or Full Moon phase. In such a case, one alternative is toperform the ritual at Sunrise, or when the Sun is at the Midheaven, or when the Sun issetting, or when the Sun as at the Imum Coeli.

  • 7/24/2019 Oliver Hart - Power Magick

    51/65

Likewise, if the ritual is to be done as soon as possible, you could utilizeanother possible time frame that involves using the 12 houses. Weve already

mentioned the basic meanings of the 1st

    , 4th

    , 7th

    , and 10th

houses. The other ninehouses are also relevant. Any magickal ritual can be associated with a particularastrological house. Altogether, the 12 houses entities, and persons associated witheach house can be summarized. The basic meanings of each house (starting from the1stand ending at the 12th) are: personality; family; courage; home; creativity; enemy;spouse; gap; fortune; work; goal; and loss, respectively. For a ritual concerning health, the 6thhouse is crucial.

The enemy is the main concern of the 6th house. The enemy can bepsychological and self-imposed: fear, worry, anxiety, mental obstacles. It can bephysical: disease, illness, injury. The enemy can be manifest in the form of being tooself-centered, being unable to release concern for your own safety. Being aperfectionistic is another way of being your own enemy. The enemy can be anotherperson: a literal enemy, someone who doesnt like who you are or what you do,perhaps a competitor on the job. People who rob and steal from you, who have verydifferent ideas about how something should be, people to whom you owe money orfavors, those who imprison you or physically hurt you: all these are also enemies. The6th house, though, is also how you conquer enemies, how you overcome obstacles, heal illness and disease, improve yourself, how you serve others unselfishly. Part of

this service is giving charity to the poor, helping the oppressed, finding the lost. Thepoor includes animals, including pets. Understandably, the stepmother is connectedto the 6th house, due to the likelihood of the stepmother being an enemy of thestepchildren. Anatomically, the navel and the gastrointestinal tract, especially theintestines, are related to this house.

Strengthen Health via Sun MagickIn order to pick the best time for the solar health magick ritual, you would

want to perform the ritual when your birth-chart Sun is in the 6th house. Get your

astrological chart made. Find the sign in which your Sun is located. Lets say yourSun is at 4 degrees Capricorn. Find the sign opposite the sign your Sun is in. That signwould be Cancer, if Sun is in Capricorn. Then move one sign forward: one signforward from Cancer is Leo. So the time at which you should perform the ritual is thatroughly 2-hour period when the horizon is in the sign of Leo, meaning that your Sunin Capricorn is in the 6thhouse. You can then go an online astrological source (likewww.astro.com) and determine precisely what at time of the day that the horizon is inLeo. Perform the ritual at that time or as closely as possible to that time.

The fire of health burns through the last remnants of my illness. What is not needed is burned away into ash. As the fire of health burns, Ibecome lighter and lighter, healthier and healthier. I feel the heat ofcoursing through my blood vessels.

    3. On the altar, burn incense-cedar (for health) or lotus (for

growth and healing, as well as inner peace). As you smell the incense, say out loud:

My disease does not like the smell of incense. It recedes further

and further into the background, until it disappears. As the incenseenters my nose, goes down the trachea, and into the two lungs, it

prepares to spread throughout the body via the bloodstream.

    4. Pour into the cup, some sort of liquid medicine that ishelpful (or at least not harmful) to your condition. The liquid could becough medicine, or liquid medicine for cold/flu symptoms, or lemon

juice mixed with water. Consume the liquid, then affirm:Water helps hydrate the body and increase blood flow. Liquid

medicine is a convenient way of getting the needed medicine into thebody. I visualize the germs symbolically drowning in the liquid. There isno life-guard to pull them to shore and perform mouth-to-mouth. No onewill throw them a life-saver. At best, I will throw them an anchor.

    5. Place an oyster shell and a plate of cooked oysters on the

    altar. Affirm:

Zinc, an essential trace element in humans, ultimately comesfrom the earth. For humans, eating oysters is the best way to consume

zinc and thus strengthen the immune system. May eating these oystersbolster my bodys immunology and minimize the frequency of catchingcolds and influenza. Lchaim! So be it!

    6. Re-establish yourself in your calm pose and radiate good-will to all beings.

    7. Take the cooked oysters from the altar and into the kitchen.

    Eat the oysters.

Finding Your Totemistic PlanetThe totemistic planet represents the planet closest to your heart. Some sources

claim that such a planet is the planet near which you spent time just before taking

birth in your present life-time, and that the planet accordingly shares some or a lot ofits energy and characteristics with you, such that you manifest the planets energieswhile alive on Earth. Be that as it may, it is clear that people have differentpersonalities, and those personalities can be classified as being more like thecharacteristics attributed to some planets than to other planets. The simple way to findyour totemistic planet is to simply choose the planet that best represents your generalgoal in life, or who you really are. However, if you dont trust your intuition just yet,you could try less subjective methods of determining that planet. Once you determineyour totemistic planet, that knowledge can help you determine your guardian angel,

    your daemon, your guiding spirit.

One way for determining the totemistic planet is via numerology. This methodis quite simple. First, calculate your person number. Lets say your name is CharlesRobert Darwin. Charles calculates to 30. Robert calculates to 33. Darwin

gives us 33. (The fact that the middle name and last name are both 33, which, alongwith 11, 22, 44, etc., is a master number is intriguing. But I digress.) Add the threenames together and you come up with 96, which reduces to 15, which reduces to 6.Six is the number of sensuality, which also includes an emphasis upon matter (asopposed to spirit). There is no need to go into the connections between the number 6and evolutionary theory in this essay, but I will say that 6 is connected to the planetVenus, the planet of the five senses, senses that interact with matter.

In India, Venus is the teacher of the asuras, who (unlike the devas) are focused

on enjoyment of the material world which is not a bad thing necessarily. Its theenjoyment of the material world that has led, in part, to the development of scienceand technology, the study and manipulation of the material world. The planet Venus isa guru of matter, of science, and of medicine. There is an Asian Indian narrative thatVenus was the supreme physician, because he knew how to cure the ultimate disease, death. (Charles Darwin initially studied to be a physician.) If modern scientists everfind a way to indefinitely prolong human life, they might find Venus asking them,What took you so long?

Another way to find your totemistic planet is to analyze your astrological

birth-chart. If there is a planet in the 1st, 10th, 7th, or 4thhouse; or a planet that is in itsown sign or in its exaltation sign; or a planet that is at multiple angles to multipleother planets; then that planet could be your totemistic planet. In others, the mostpowerful planet could be your totemistic planet. Of course, incorporating all of thesefactors requires that you have a pretty accurate time of birth. For many people, that isnot the case.

Take Charles Robert Darwin, the famous one born on 12 February 1809. Noone recorded the exact time of his birth, even if the general time of day were recorded,

say, early morning or late evening. In such a case, we use what we know, which isthe day; and we use the Moons location. For almost all people in England (as well asin the U.S.) born on that day, the Moon was in Capricorn (using the sidereal chart). So, we take the Moon and its sign as basis for the 1 st house: the 1st house spans 0degrees Capricorn to 29.999 degrees Capricorn. Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, and soSaturn becomes a candidate for Darwins totemistic planet.

Interestingly, Saturn is the planet very closely associated with scientists and

physicians, people who in general are conservative in terms of their thinkingprocesses, patiently demanding concrete evidence before making any tentativeconclusions about their experimental data. Of course, not all scientists and physiciansare like this, but the general practice of science and medicine is based upon a verysaturnine and five-sense-based approach.

Theres another interesting aspect of Darwins Moon-in-1st-house chart. All theplanets finally dispose to the planet Jupiter in the sign Pisces. For Darwins chart, thismeans that if you take any planet, look at the sign the planet is in, find the planet thatrules that sign, then find the sign that planet is in, then find that planet that rules thatsign, and so on, you will end up with Jupiter in Pisces. For instance, in Darwins

chart, the Moon is in Capricorn, ruled by Saturn; Saturn is in Scorpio, ruled by Mars;Mars is in Libra, ruled by Venus; Venus is in Pisces, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter is inPisces (which is ruled by Jupiter), so the chain stops with Jupiter. However, Jupiter isaccompanied by Venus, both being in Pisces. Even though Venus does not rule Pisces,Venus is exaltedin Pisces, meaning that Venus is (in general) stronger in Pisces than itis in the signs it does rule (Taurus and Libra). In fact, it is possible that Venus is the

strongest planet in Darwins chart, since it is the only exalted planet in his chart (andJupiter is the only planet that is located in one of its own signs).

So, given his numerological profile, as well as his likely chart, Darwinstotemistic planet might be Venus. However, ultimately, you have to choose yourtotemistic planet. No chart or set of numbers can do that for you.

Invoking Guides, Angels, and DaemonsIf your astrological chart indicates that most of your planets are weakened,

then you might want to do a ritual that strengthens all of the planets at once. Such a

ritual would invoke the deities associated with each planet, and call upon those deitiesto become active and strong. Your astrological chart, your time of birth, would ofcourse remain the same, but extra energy would be added to how you embody yourchart. A deity, spirit guide, or guardian angel, associated with your totemic planet, would receive special attention. In the ritual below, the totemic planet is the Moon, whose deity (in this ritual) is Uma, the Wife of Shiva.

    1. Establish yourself in a focused and calm position, radiating

    good-will to all beings.

    2. On the altar, light a silver candle, and move the candle in aclockwise motion four times in front of the Uma murti [statue], whilechanting four times:

The light of the Uma shines throughout the cosmos!

    3. On the altar, burn the sandalwood incense, and move the

incense stick in a clockwise motion four times in front of the Umamurti, chanting four times:

The sweet smell of Uma permeates all things!

    4. On the altar, pour a little milk into the tray that is positioned

in front of the Uma murti, and move the tray with milk in a clockwisemotion four times in front of the Uma murti, chanting four times:

The richness of milk Uma feeds to all Her children, all living things!

    5. On the altar, place a opened coconut in front of the Umamurti, or place some coconut meat on the tray in front of the Umamurti. Wave the coconut in a clockwise circular motion four times infront of the Uma murti, chanting four times:

The earth produces food and Uma increases the abundance!

    6. On the altar, place a copy of your astrological chart. On topof each symbol of each planet, place the appropriate colored disk. (Youcan create these colored disks on your own, using colored paper or

wood). The gold disk goes on top of the Sun; the silver disk, the Moon;the red disk, Mars; the green disk, Mercury; the yellow disk, Jupiter;the white disk, Venus; the blue disk, Saturn; the smoky disk, Rahu; andthe brown disk, Ketu. Affirm:

I honor the Sun, the light of the divine and the destroyer of

darkness!I honor the Moon, the perfection of devotion!I honor Mars, the powerful warrior!I honor Mercury, the communicator of knowledge!I honor Jupiter, the teacher of the deities!I honor Venus, the teacher of the daemons!I honor Saturn, the patient, suffering one!I honor Rahu, the one of obsessive desire!I honor Ketu, the desireless renunciate!O Uma, moving along Your path, Your victorious conquest is

    well-known:Transform us, higher and higher!

We see Your Light, the heavenly Light, and every sort ofHappiness:

    Transform us, higher and higher!Proficient in power, physical, emotional, and intellectual,O Uma, help us defeat our enemies;

And transform us, higher and higher!

O Uma, heighten our senses, purify our food:Transform us, higher and higher!

    So be it!Aum! Svaha!

    7. Contemplate the chart and the colored disks on the chart.

Remember that the disks, the planets, are movable. The chart does notdefine who you really are. It simply symbolizes a set of characteristicsfor this life-time, characteristics that are the result of either past-life

actions, or the biological and cultural conditions of your birth, or both.Remember that the actions you do now, in this life, can alter any

apparent trajectory your past actions or history might indicate.

    8. Re-establish yourself in your meditative position, radiating

    good-will to all.

    Angelic Exorcism

The Kabbalistic Tree of Life comprises 10 Sephirot, or DivineEmanations. Each Sephira can be linked to deity or angel, as well as to a planet. Thus,

once you have determined your totemistic planet, you can then invoke the associatedangel during normal, everyday life, or as part of a Chaotic magickal ritual. Exorcismis a very useful type of ritual, so the ritual below is an exorcism that involvesinvoking the angel Gabriel, who is associated with Yesod, which is linked to theMoon. This ritual would be very appropriate for those individuals with the Moon astheir totemistic planet. It would also be best done right at, or right after, the point ofthe New Moon, since the aim is to increase the power of the angelic exorcism. (JohnDee explained the name Gabriel as referring to the increasing might of God.) Oneof the major obstacles to self-empowerment is the demonic (not to be confused with

daemonic) power of self-hate, and this exorcism, inspired by Dees Enochianmagick and Psalm 68, addresses that.

    1. On the altar, place an image of the archangel Gabriel, andshout:

Yah! Yee! Yuu! Yay! Yoh!Jah! Jee! Juu! Jay! Joh!

    2. On the altar, light a red candle, and shout:

Yah! Yee! Yuu! Yay! Yoh!Jah! Jee! Juu! Jay! Joh!

    3. On the altar, burn basil incense, and shout:

Yah! Yee! Yuu! Yay! Yoh!Jah! Jee! Juu! Jay! Joh!

    4. On the altar, pour some boiling water in the cup, and shout:

Yah! Yee! Yuu! Yay! Yoh!Jah! Jee! Juu! Jay! Joh!

    5. On the altar, place black obsidian, and shout:

    6. Start playing a pre-selected selection of war-like drumming.

Turn the volume up loud as loud as you can, while still being able to

hear your voice if you shout. Chant with a loud voice:Let Gabriel arise! Let Self-Hate be scattered!

Drive away Self-Hate like the wind drives away smoke, like firemelts wax. Let Self-Hate burn in the presence of Yesod!

O Gabriel, you led your people safely through the wilderness of

Self-Hate. You shook the earth, you dropped down the sky, and thatwilderness fell into the sea.

You, O Gabriel, sent your people into a new land, a land of milk

and honey, providing rest for the weary, food for the hungry. The word went out: there is a fertile land filled with food. The kings of the bordering nations, worshippers of Self-Hate,

attacked, but were repulsed. They did flee back to their palaces.

Gabriel scattered the kings of Self-Hate with the twenty thousandchariots of Self-Love: the Power of Yesod was among them. He burneddown their palaces of Self-Hate, killed their wives of Self-Malevolence,and burned their children of Self-Antipathy.

O Gabriel, from the heights of heaven, destroy the head of Self-

Hate, the hairy crown of Self-Loathing!Gabriel shouted, I will bring the hammer down on Self-Disgust!

I will smash the bones of Self-Aversion! I will utterly annihilate thearmies of Self-Despising! I will bathe in the blood of Self-Enmity, andgarland around my neck the skulls of Self-Hostility, Self-Revulsion, andSelf-Scorn.

O Gabriel, rebuke the claim of Self-Resentment, scatter the

    armies of Self-Hostility!

hurl your mighty spear.O Gabriel, angel of war, of a terrible and of bloody countenance,

utterly annihilate Self-Scorn, absolutely exterminate Self-Spite, andtotally obliterate Self-Hatred back to the depths of Hell!

    7. Turn off the drumming. Contemplate the feeling producedby the exorcism, and radiate good-will to all beings.

Magick And ProsperityWell, sometimes the Universe blinks and shows you something that brings

hope, and that's what this book did for me. I'm an old-school guy, have studied

Magick for 40+ years, held high office in the O.T.O., Priest Of Set, and one of theearly members of the "Pact" (I.O.T.) and this book gives me hope.

Most books in this category are regurgitated fluff, copied & pasted byarmchair occultists. It's very obvious to me when I'm reading the work of someonewho prefers to talk about "magick" more than actually *living* it, and while I don'tknow the author (at least I don't think I do, as he could very well be Pact and Iwouldn't know his name), but it's not difficult to see he walks the walk. And, at risk obeing repetitive, few writers actually walk that walk.-Xeper.Fr. A 414

Magick And EmpowermentI love Oliver Hart's writing still on Magick, paranormal, Wicca and

everything in between. Magick And Empowerment is presented in an easy tounderstand way for the beginner, but also proves of great value to the experiencedmagickian's bookshelf (or Kindle). The guy really knows his stuff, it's obvious. This isa must have for any practicing Chaote (or Chaoite)
