OVERVIEW

Your versatile all-in-one printer is equipped with a high-quality dual-cartridge bubble ink-jet printer anda flatbed A4 size colour scanner that allow you to print scan and copy documents and photographsProvided with a colour and a black ink cartridge you can use your all-in-one printer to print ordinaryblack and white or colour documents With the possibility of exchanging the black ink cartridge with a

photo ink cartridge sold separately your all-in-one printer becomes a 6-colour photo printer that bringstrue-life colour to your photo printoutsnote Use the black and colour ink cartridges provided with the printer to print normal black and whiteor colour documents Use the colour ink cartridge and a photo ink cartridge (sold separately) to printphotographsIf you connect your all-in-one printer to a computer equipped with a modem you can also fax thedocuments or photos that you scan by using the fax application installed on the computer

You can enjoy your printer in the convenient PC-free or stand-alone mode whereby you can makecopies and print photographs by plugging your PictBridge DPOF or non-PictBridgeDPOF digitalcamera directly into the USB interface on the printerrsquos front panel without needing to connect theprinter to the computer or even turn the computer on Furthermore you can also insert your memorycards into the related slots on the printerrsquos front panel and select and print directly the photos that arestored in them

You can also enjoy your all-in-one printer connected to your personal computer via the printerrsquos secondUSB interface In this way you can also work in the same way as in the PC-free mode but also take fulladvantage of the document management and bundled software provided on the Installation CD-ROM that came with the productnote If you want to connect your printer to a personal computer the computer must be running theMicrosoft Windows 98 SE Me 2000 or XP operating system or MAC OS 103 or later

PHOTO PRINTING MANAGEMENT CONSOLE

The photo printing management console allows you to manually control the printing of photosreceived from a digital camera connected to the printer or stored on a memory card inserted in one ofthe printerrsquos memory card slots With its colour display you can also scroll and view the photosThis console also includes buttons by means of which you can select your photos and customise print

jobs The icons on the buttons illuminate to indicate the selection currently active


1 Page layout button Press to select the layout in which the photos will be printed onthe paper Press this button sequentially to selectbull 1 borderless photo fitted on the page sizebull 1 photo with borders and fitted on the page sizebull 2 borderless photos fitted on the page size

bull 4 borderless photos fitted on the page sizebull the index of your pictures which will be correctly printed if

already compiled by the device (digital camera) If an index isnot provided by the device the printer will create its ownindex of pictures by it may not be complete

As you press this button the icons illuminate to indicate thecorresponding page layout selected If the icons do not illuminatethere is no device connected to the printer

PLACING YOUR DOCUMENT ON THE SCANNER GLASS

1 O pen the top cover To copy a bulky docum ent such as a book release the cover from its runners bypressing its securing features and slide it off

2 Place the original docum ent or photo to be scanned face dow n on the scanner glass and aligned w iththe upper left corner C lose the top cover

3 If the top cover w as rem oved replace it after copying by sliding its tabs into the related slots on the rearof the printer until they click into place C lose the top cover

LOADING PAPER

1 Raise the tw o paper supports into their upright position then squeeze and slide the paper w idth guideto its outerm ost positionnote W hen raising the paper supports m ake sure that they are in their correct upright position

2 Load the paper vertically (portrait orientation) the side to print on facing the front of the printer andagainst the guide on the right side of the paper supportSqueeze and slide the left paper guide against the left edge of the paper

bull Read the instructions on the transfer packagebull Load the blank side of the iron-on transfer vertically against the right side of

the paper support and facing up

TURNING YOUR PRINTER ON AND OFF

Turning On Your Printer

Press the O N O FF button on the right of the front panelnoteBefore pressing the O N O FF button m ake sure that the printerrsquos pow er cord is plugged into a

grounded electrical outlet See the Setup D iagram included in the printerrsquos box for inform ation onhow to setup your printerA fter pressing the O N O FF button the printer executes a series of autodiagnostic tests aim ed atdetecting any possible system m alfunction A ny error detected at this tim e w ill be signalled by the frontpanel or by the personal com puter if connected to the printer See M eaning of the LED Indicators onthe Front Panel for the corrective actions in case any error is detected

U pon the successful com pletion of the autodiagnostic phase certain buttons on the front panel w illillum inate to indicate the functions that are available according to the current printer configuration(w hether or not it is connected to a com puter or to a digital cam era)

W hen the printer isnot connected to a computer the follow ing indicators or buttons areillum inated

W hen the printer is connected to a computer the follow ing indicators or buttons are illum inated

W hen a non-PictBridge digital camera is connected to the printer the follow ing indicators orbuttons are illum inated

W hen a PictBridge digital camera is connected to the printer the indicators or button icons areillum inated according to w hether the printer is connected or not to a com puter See the relatedconfigurations above

the cam era and the other end to the U SB connector on the printer front panelnoteW hen you connect a PictBridge digital cam era to your printer only the print icon on the front

Inserting a Memory Card

Before proceeding to insert the m em ory card into its related slot follow these insertion guidelinesaccording to the card that you are usingbull W hen inserting a C om pactFlash card m ake sure that the label is facing upw ard (if the label has an

arrow it needs to be pointing tow ards the printer) w ith the m etal pinholes entering the printer firstbull W hen inserting a M ultim edia and SecureD igital cards m ake sure that the angled corner is on the

right and the m etal contacts are facing dow nw ardbull W hen inserting a Sm artM edia card or a M em ory Stick m ake sure that the angled corner is on the

left and the m etal contacts are facing dow nw ard

noteIt is im portant that you rem em ber the correct orientation of the card w hen you insert it into theprinter as inserting it any other w ay could dam age the card and the printer

1 O n your printerrsquos front panel choose the correct slot for the m em ory card that you w ish to insert2 O rient your specific m em ory card as indicated at the beginning of this section carefully insert it into the

slot and gently push it in until it stops The follow ing figure show s an exam ple of the insertion of aM ultiM edia cardnoteThe m em ory card does not go in all the w ay do not try to force it in since doing so w ill dam agethe card and the printer

If the card is inserted correctly an iconis displayed on the LC D indicating the total num ber of photosstored on the m em ory card (only the com patible files are opened and counted)

Removing a Memory Card

1 C arefully pull the card com pletely out of its slotCAUTION D O N O T rem ove the m em ory card w hile it is still being accessed either by the printer or

COPYING A DOCUMENT

1 Turn on your printer See Turning Your Printer On and Off2 Make sure that the out of black or colour ink indicators on the front panel are not flashing or are not

illuminated If either one is it is suggested that you replace the corresponding ink cartridge For moreinformation see Replacing the Ink Cartridges

3 Load the paper on which you want to print For information see Loading Paper4 Open the top cover and place the document you want to copy face down on the scanner glass Make

sure the upper left corner of the front of the item aligns with the upper left corner of the scanner glassFor more information see Placing Your Document on the Scanner Glass

5 Close the top cover6 Select the print or copy quality either Normal or Photo by pressing the Quality button If you are copying

a normal blackwhite text or a mixed blackwhite and colour document choose Normal If you are copyinga photo or a document with photos choose Photo For more information see Printer Front Panel

7 Select the contrast either Dark Light or Normal by pressing the Contrast button For more informationsee Printer Front Panel

8 To make more than one copy press the plus sign (+) on the Copy selection button the number of timesneeded until displaying the number of copies on the copy counter For more information see PrinterFront Panel

9 Press the Black Copy button to create a black and white copy or press the Colour Copy button tocreate a colour copy For more information see Printer Front Panelnote If you are copying on different paper sizes with respect to the size of the original press and holddown the Black Copy or Colour Copy button to activate the Fit-to-Page feature The printer willautomatically adjust the size of the original document to fit the size of the paper loaded

Navigating Through Full-Screen Views and Selecting Photos1 Scroll through all the photos that are stored on the connected storage device and displayed in this

screen view press the Right and Left Navigation button2 Select the photo displayed and that you want to print press the Select button3 Deselect the photo displayed press the Select button again

SELECTING AND PRINTING PHOTOS FROM YOUR MEMORY CARD

For best results when printing photos make sure that a photo and colour cartridge are installedSeeExchanging Black and Photo Ink Cartridges

1 Insert the memory card that you wish to print from into its related connector on the printer The Filetransfer screen is displayed on the LCD indicating that your printer is reading the compatible files storedon the inserted memory card

2 A screen indicating the total number of compatible photos stored on the memory card is displayed onthe control panel LCD If needed press the Change View button to toggle between full-screen andthumbnail screen views See Viewing Photos on Your Printerrsquos Display An icon on the bottom left-hand side of the screenrsquos icon bar will indicate the device connected

3 Using the Right Left Up Down Navigation button scroll through the photos to position thehighlighted frame on the photo you wish to print

4 Select the number of copies you wish to print of the photos selected by pressing the plus (+) or minus(-) button until displaying the number on the bottom right-hand side of the screen icon bar A copyindicator is also displayed on the bottom-right corner of the photo selected to also indicate the numberof copies requested

5 Select the layout in which you wish to print the selected photos by pressing the Page Layout button thenumber of times needed to select the required layout You have the following possibilities

ndash Print 1 borderless photo fitted on the page sizendash Print 1 photo with borders and fitted on the page sizendash Print 2 borderless photos fitted on the page size

1 Photo counter Shows how many photos are stored on the connected device

2 Select frame Indicates that the photo was selected by using the Select button

3 Browse frame Highlights the current image as a result of the of the pressing ofthe Navigation button
