Leadership On The Edge (LOTE) Part of the MBA experience involves Leadership on the Edge (LOTE). LOTE is de-
signed to provide insight and reinforce leadership theories that are taught in the
classroom, by asking students to practice those theories in an unfamiliar and unpre-
dictable wilderness environment. Over Labor Day weekend, student teams will climb
the Knife Edge Ridge of Mt. Katahdin in Maine. This route provides the opportunity
for the team to practice and hone its management, leadership, and coping skills in a
challenging environment.
“The world of today will not be the world of tomorrow.” – What this means in no
uncertain terms is that what we currently know may only be partially relevant or ap-
plicable to the fast changing circumstances of the near and distant future. Implicit in
this assumption is that business school graduates have to be leaders who are prepared
and willing to make rapid adjustments in the way they deal with potentially threaten-
ing and unfamiliar situations, and convince others to follow.
In this issue we will discuss

Dr. Wynn has been a professor in our management department for the past 23 years. Looking back
over her academic career here at BU, students, faculty, and staff we all have stories about special
times with her. Professor Wynn, we admire your commitment and hard work to the university, the
college, your colleagues, and more importantly to the students. You have been instrumental in
making our department the best in the college and one of the best in the university. It’s impossible
to measure what you meant to us all these years. And I know I speak for everyone when I say this
is a bittersweet moment….saying goodbye to a dear friend and colleague who has meant so much
to us. But we are all happy that you will have time to kick back, pursue new dreams and enjoy your
family.
We wish you all the best.

Championship On April 3, 2013.
For the second year in a row, ENACTUS-BU wins the regional
championship on April 3, 2013 at the Hilton in New York. Com-
prising students from all disciplines in the College of Business, EN-
ACTUS members presented on the outcomes of their year-long
projects in front of 24 judges representing the region’s sponsoring
business corporations. About 30 institutions in the New York region
were selected by ENACTUS USA to participate in this regional
competition. The projects this year included: Financial Literacy,
Resource and logistical support to the Children’s Museum; partici-
pation in the Big Event, and a model recycling program for a com-
mercial building in Bloomsburg. The Championship award included
a check of $1000 in addition to a plaque. The regional champions

be held in Kansas City, MO during May 21-23.
Society for Advancement of Management (SAM), BU Chapter partici-
pated in the Case Competition at the 2013 Society for Advancement of
Management (SAM) International Business Conference held in March
21-24 in Arlington, Virginia. The team won second place in their divi-
sion. This is the first time the BU Chapter won an award at SAM’s con-
ference. The SAM-BU Chapter student team, who participated in the
Case Competition at the conference, include Andrew Foley, Kristin E.
Hummel, Nathan Shefter, and Nicholas Bonitatibus. This year’s case
was on “Netflix, Inc.: The 2011 Rebranding/Price Increase Debacle.”
Each team had to present their comprehensive analysis of Netflix and
recommend strategic actions for the company in front of an experienced
panel of judges in 15 minutes followed by a Q&A session. Society for
Advancement of Management (SAM) was founded in 1912 by the col-
leagues and disciples of Frederick Taylor, the “Father of Scientific Man-
agement.” Members come from a variety of disciplines including pro-
ductions, finance, marketing, accounting, research and development, and
entrepreneurship, yet they all share a common interest in becoming
stronger managers. SAM builds bridges among academicians, practition-
ers, and students not only to better share management expertise, but also
to develop and promote new management ideas.
