Fire up the Vegetarian Grill—Enjoy the Bounty of Summer! Move over burgers and hot dogs…there’s room for variety on that grill! Add flavor and nutrition to your meal with vegetables and fruit cooked right on the grill. Baste firm vegetables like peppers, corn, eggplant, or onions. Season them with herbs and place on a hot grill until they are tender and brown usually about 10 to 15 minutes. Or try sliced zucchini tomatoes and carrots. Place them on heavy duty foil and sprinkle with a little water and seasoning. Wrap the foil and grill six to eight minutes or until vegetables are tender. Grill fruit kabobs, pineapples slices or peach halves on low heat until the fruit is hot and slightly golden. Serve them on top of a scoop of low fat ice cream. “Then God said, “Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every

kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in

it.” And so it happened: the earth brought forth every kind

of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth

that bears fruit with its seed in it. God saw how good it

was. Evening came and morning followed the third day.”

WHY CATHOLIC? PORQUE SER CATOLICO? 622-7232

How (and Why) of Daily Prayer

If you had the chance to talk to Blessed Mother Teresa, wouldn’t you? Christ is infinitely greater and you have the chance every day. Don’t you talk frequently and for significant amounts of time to those you love? God likes to converse with you the way you like to converse with others: He doesn’t want you to rattle on and hardly notice him. As a baptized person you are the representative of Christ’s love at home at work and in social situations you will only represent him well if you’ve prayed. Prayer will transform your day and make it fruitful and fulfilling. Prayer is made of ACTS: A-Adoration, C-Contrition (sorrow for sins) T-Thanksgiving, S-Supplication (your requests of God). Only God can make you truly happy. Your spouse won’t not your body nor your intellect. Know him. Kneel or sit respectfully when you pray. Your body and soul are one. The way you carry your body is important. Do you want to go to heaven? Then get ready with habitual prayer. Start by remembering God is present and telling him in your won words why you believe in him hope in him and love him. Read Luke 10:38-42: Jesus says there is “only one thing necessary.” Mental prayer is the only thing that will soften your heart-besides suffering. If you get “stuck” you can slowly repeat the words of a simple prayer like “My God, I adore your divine greatness from the depths of my littleness.” Christ doesn’t want you to pray because you have to. He wants you to pray because he loves you and likes talking to you. Faithful prayer can give you in a moment what otherwise takes years of experience to gain. Read a quick passage from the Gospels and picture it happening. You can even imagine Christ sitting with you.

Did you know that there are special seminaries for men entering the priesthood later in life, seminaries where students range from ages 25 to 60? Many of these men have thought about being a priest at one time or another but for whatever reason pushed the idea to the back of their minds. They are men who have made a career change to a second vocation the priesthood. They’re ordinary people men who have been electrician’s teacher’s barber’s policemen social workers businessmen farmer’s dentists. Some are widower’s even grandfathers. Diverse though their backgrounds may be they now share one aim in life; to become a priest and serve God’s people. Could you be one of them? Serra
