According to the Greek mythology, many of the Olympian gods were born here, in Thes-saly.It also identifies those areas as paradise Historical and geographical region of main-land Greece, Thessaly bordered to the North by western Macedonia, to D. the Continent, to south of mainland Greece and to A. bor-dering the Aegean Sea.In Homer’s epic, the Odyssey, Odysseus vis-its the kingdom of Aeolus, and this is the old name for Thessaly.

The Plain of Thessaly, which lies between Mount Oeta/Othrys and Mount Olympus, is the site of the battle between the Titans and the Olympians.

According to legend, Jason and the Argonauts launched their search for the Golden Fleece from the Magnesia Peninsula.Transport

TRANSPORT

There are a number of highways E75 and the main railway from Athens to Thessaloniki (Salonika) crosses Thessaly. The region is directly linked to the rest of Europe through International Airport of Central Greece located in Nea Anchialos in a small distance from Volos and Larisa. Until today char-ter flights links the region and brings tourists to the wider area, mainly in Pelion and Meteora. The new infrastructure includes a brand new terminal ready to serve 1500 passengers per hour and new airlanes.

At the land of the Gods, The Centaurs, the Nymphs and the Giants, every period have its own charm. Lakes, rivers, fertile valleys and wild and beautiful mountains as base for the blue water of agean pelagos have been welcoming man for 100.000 years. Archeological sites, Byzantine for-tresses, monasteries, historical settlements and ancient traditions are proof of the uninterrupted continuity of culture. Thessaly holds a different, magical landscape for a memorable experience. The Prefecture of Larissa is the heart of the Greece. Situated in the centre of the Greece makes easy to travel from here all around, to the sea and to the mountains. Has the largest cultivation area of Greece, with exceptionally fertile soil and a rich production of agricultural products. The eastern side of the Prefecture of Larissa, washed by the Aegean Sea, is one of the most beautiful coastlines of the country, with sandy and rocky beaches, two harbors, crystal clear waters and untouched natu-ral environment. It constitutes the centre of the NW Aegean for sea excursions and journeys. Ag-iokambos, Sotiritsa and Velika, stretching over a coastline of 12 km, have been repeatedly awarded the Blue Flag (EU symbol for top-quality beaches), are the most popular summer choice for holiday makers, offering a range of exciting activities (beach volley, sea kayaking, water-cycling etc.)So close to the mountain of Kissavos (or Ossa) covered by dense forest with impressive gorges, torrents and streams crossing its slopes that has been classified as the “Aesthetic Forest of Ossa”, is protected by the Natura 2000 European network and it has been characterized as a “botanical garden” with several water ways (canyons, lakes etc.) The Mavrovouni Mountain also, covered in vegetation with mixed forests of chestnuts, oak, beech and other shrubs, is a particularly interesting escape location. The Polydendri Forest, formerly known as the Royal Estate, with its marked paths and bicycle routes, organized picnic facilities and two old monasteries dedicated to Panagia (Virgin Mary) is an area for visit and rest.At the narrow crossing between Ossa and Olympus (home of the Gods, classified as National For-est, while UNESCO declared the mountain a “Biosphere Reserve”) flows the river Peneus, forming the impressive Tembi Valley. At the outfalls of Peneus to the Aegean Sea, lies the Peneus Delta, one of the most important wetland habitats of Greece, protected by the Ramsar Treaty, is the habitat of several rare bird species. One can complete his visit to the Prefecture only by savoring the unique tastes of local products and traditional flavors of the area. (Pure, genuine Mediterranean products for a Mediterranean diet!) Wine tourism also earns the visitors by visiting the local wineries (Dougos winery, Tsantali, Liapi and others)For the true adventure lovers, the choices offered are infinite. With the experienced staff of Trekking Hellas East Thessaly, your vacations will be unforgettable!!!
