QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“If formless meditation is difficult,
then think of my form just as you

NASSTA NEWSLETTER OM SAI RAM | Issue # 12 2
WHILE the principles to be
followed by a Sai devotee have
only been discussed, nothing has
been said in concrete terms on
any 'Sadhana' (spiritual practice)
that Baba had laid down for the
benefit of his devotees. It should
be remembered Baba had not
incarnated to upset the existing
dharma (prescribed duties) or to
preach any new "cult". Baba
always insists, after Lord Krishna,
on one's doing "swadharma",
one's own religious duties. He
does not like the Hindu neglecting
his Sanatana Dharma.
He expects the Moslem, the
Christian, the Pars! and others to
remain loyal and devoted to their
particular faiths. Baba is opposed
to conversion. So particular and
precise is he that he insists on a
Rama Bhakta worship Sri Rama,
a Siva bhakta to do Siva poojah
and the devotee to adore his
family deity. Baba also wants that
one should remain loyal to one's
own Guru. But Baba had
succeeded in achieving
communal harmony among his
devotees. Baba knew the
tendencies and attainments of his
devotees.
He prescribed to them their
particular sadhanas accordingly.
He wanted some to do cleaning
the streets, filling water tubs and
engage in similar "nishkamya
karma' (selfless service). He bade
others do poojah, bhajan and
'Narayana Seva' (feeding the
hungry and the needy). He asked
Abdullah Bhai to read the Koran,
Shama to read Vishnu
Shasranama and Srimad
Bhagavat, Nana Saheb
Chandorkar to read the Bhagavad
Gita, and other devotees to read
Rama Vijaya and so on. Das
Ganu Maharaj was commanded
to do Kirtan as 'Haridas'. He is
called Kirtankar or Jatra singer in
other parts of India.
Das Ganu Maharaj had made Sai
Baba known throughout
Maharashtra by his popular
performance. Sadhanas like
reading 'Sri Sai Satcharita' before
lunch, eating or drinking anything
after offering it to Baba and
repeating whenever possible "Sai,
Sai" or "Sai Ram" are to be
followed commonly by all.
