“The Souls of people, on their way to Earth-life, pass through a room full of

Lights; each takes a Taper, often only a spark, to guide it in the dim country of

this world. But some souls are rare fortune, are detained longer and have time to

grab a handful of Tapers, which they weave into a Torch. These are the Torch-

Bearers of humanity, its Poets, Seers, and Saints, who lead and lift the race out

of darkness, towards the Light. They are the lawgivers and the Saviors, the

Light-Bring..ers, Way- Show..ers and Truth-Tell..ers, and without them,

Humanity would Loose its way in the Dark.....”

New Beginnings

One morning this week, I woke up feeling good, feeling happy, thinking about and thanking God for all the wonderful blessings in my life, especially for my friends, who so often feel much like Angels. Even the most difficult people and circumstances in my life are gifts if I can learn to see them that way. When any situation brings me pain, I know the only way out of the pain is through it. All I need to do is understand and heed its message. Pain always contains an invitation to receiving a Gift of Divine Guidance, if I choose to receive it. Receiving this Gift will help me reframe painful experiences and help me to grow both personally and spiritually. In fact, I can often feel Spirit tugging at my Soul, reminding me that along with many others, I too am being called to heal and to stretch my boundaries -- mentally, emotionally and spiritually -- to do my part in raising the global vibration, thereby increasing the Light and Love on this planet to levels higher than humankind has ever seen.

If we listen closely enough, each of us will hear this call of Higher Consciousness that

beckons us to become more fully who we are. As we transform ourselves, we will influence the transformation of our friends, our families and our communities. This Path will become the larger transformation that has now become necessary to our very survival -- the Path that will ultimately save humanity and the Beloved Planet we all share. So now is the time to embrace our collective pain as the gift that it is: a clarion call from Spirit to transform our World, starting with ourselves. We can no longer afford to ignore Ghandi's call to action; indeed, we truly must "be the change we wish to see in the world."

The New Year brings forth a new opportunity for all of us -- to let go of the old and embrace the new. If nothing else, 2010 will bring with it a greater level of social and spiritual awareness than modern humanity has ever seen. And from that, we will learn to heal ourselves and our planet. And as miracles abound, they will bring about opportunities and possibilities for all that none of us could ever before have imagined.

So here's to a banner year - on all counts! May Love be the Light for us all as we move forward on our journey towards new understandings and brilliant awakenings.

With deepest gratitude and love,

Celestial! Man at first but now nearing the diviner ranks! the bonds of human necessity are loosed for you and, strong of heart, you beat your eager way from out the roaring tumult of the fleshly life to the shores of that wave-washed coast free from the thronging of the guilty, thence to take the grateful path of the sinless soul: where glows the splendor of God, where Right is throne in the stainless place, far from the wrong that mocks at law.

Oft-times as you strove to rise above the bitter waves of this blood-drenched life, above the sickening whirl, toiling in the mid-most of the rushing flood and the unimaginable turmoil, oft-times, from the Ever-Blessed, there was shown to you the Term still close at hand:

Oft-times, when your mind thrust out awry and was like to be rapt down unsanctioned paths, the Immortals themselves prevented, guiding you on the straight going way to the celestial spheres, pouring down before you a dense shaft of light that your eyes might see from amid the mournful gloom.

Sleep never closed those eyes: high above the heavy murk of the mist you held them; tossed in the welter, you still had vision; still you saw sights many and fair not granted to all that labor in wisdom's quest.

But not that you have cast the screen aside, quitted the tomb that held your lofty soul, you enter at once the heavenly consort: where fragrant breezes play, where all is unison and winning tenderness and guileless joy, and the place is lavish of the nectar-streams the unfailing Gods bestow, with the blandishments of the Loves, and delicious airs, and tranquil sky:

Each day of our lives we think about the future, we worry about how things will turn out. We wonder what might have happened if only… or if we had…or… well you get the picture. When we live in the future we are literally living out in front of ourselves. Part of us isn’t present and is literally energetically leaning into what might be. When we live in the past, we are dragging the emotions, the regrets, the grief and even the joy of what was. All of those experiences add up to a great huge mass of unprocessed energy that serves nothing except to bring us down. We live in our past and in our futures because we haven’t figured out how to be in the moment. How to be present. After all, being concerned about later helps this now be less noticeable. Worrying about the past keeps us afraid of what might be and so we skirt through our experiences like a cat on a hot tin roof. All we want is a light at the end of the tunnel that isn’t a freight train. What if for only a moment we could just sit still and listen? If we could here the truth, we would hear the whispers of our souls telling us that nothing ever happened outside of a moment. Ever. Think about it. What we experienced a moment ago, a week ago, months or years ago has been. It has either served to get our attention and we have learned from it, or we are holding those experiences tightly, wallowing in what we did wrong or worse, what someone else did. This kind of thinking only serves to keep us in a victim mentality.

What might happen or could happen or whatever we want to interject into the possibilities is either imagination or speculation. It isn’t truth. It is fear. Fear is not a reality it is a what if… There is only ever this now. What if’s don’t apply to now. We are already here. But do we accept this journey? In order to participate in this now, we must first become present. This now isn’t like an ice cold pool where we stick in a toe or two to see if we want to get in. We are immersed in a warm body that maintains our soul, our essence, and in fact who we really are. We are not our body nor our

experiences. We are infinite beings with the power to draw from the infinite for whatever purpose we desire. Shall I repeat that? We are infinite beings with the power to draw from the infinite for whatever purpose we desire Our presence is

the only way we can truly create anything. Life isn’t going to come and meet us on the couch or behind the door. We must begin to be ok with feeling our experiences. To do that we must know what we want to create. Who is it that we are trying to become? What is wrong with who we are now? Why aren’t we happy? When we create anything outside of ourselves, outside of a moment, we become victims of our own creative process. Who we are is perfection. There is nothing wrong with us we are perfection. We aren’t happy because we keep trying to be something that we are not. We don’t need to be fixed. There are no mistakes,

Page 12: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2020 Edition

merely opportunities for a different experience. If we choose. Even the concern that all is not perfect creates imperfection The truth is in the choosing. Are you not happy? What is at the base of your lack of happiness? Do you choose to stay there or do you really want something different? Being unhappy becomes a comfortable discomfort. We get used to the idea that we don’t have what we really want and there we stay, stuck in our misperceptions that we have to stay stuck. We get stuck with money issues or abundance issues. We pass up what we want because we might not deserve it or something better might come along or it just wasn’t exactly right. What happens is that our thoughts become entangled. We create complexity of illusion out of simple truth. Happiness, abundance money, in fact anything positive is all relative to how we value ourselves. What if only for a moment we got off that train? What if only for a moment we looked into our heart and asked ourselves what is it that I really want? What is the honest truth of my being? What does this moment offer to me that I am not noticing? Where is it that I think I am going and where am I really going? Each moment carries the answers to these questions and in fact infinite others. The truth is that when we are thinking we are cutting ourselves out of the moment with old tapes that keep us stuck. Look past what you believe. Look into the mirror. What do you see? When you face other people how do you feel? Is it a constant pushing from the inside to be noticed? Have you noticed yourself? Are you ready to jump to help everyone so you feel special? You are special. Are you afraid that if you don’t go along with what they want you will be left behind? So what. And what if they don’t love you anymore? They never did. Not really.

And every time that one of these types of feelings or any other that feels uncomfortable comes up we are not in the moment and our focus is not on us. Where our attention goes our power goes as well. Where is our attention? Are you participating in your own journey or trying to live everyone else’s? Where are you in this now? Where is your perception? What is your perception? Perceptions are an imaging system that human beings utilize to define experience. In order to change the experience, one has only to change the perception. This is your life. This is your moment. Seize it. Live it. Cherish it. Honor it. Be aware within it because the signs for greater reality are already within your and around you. Don’t stop. Live the light that you are. In this now. In this now. In this now. And for infinite now’s.

The Path to

Sacred Geometry By Charles L. Gilchrist

I have been deeply involved with the study of Sacred

Geometry for over thirty years. This experience has

radically altered my consciousness and affected a

profound psychological healing. And, as a teacher of

SG I have personally witnessed the same kind of

beneficial effects taking

place in many of my

students. This fact

compels me to share my

path into SG as a spiritual

process. Why? Because I

know that with this

information, you can also

step through these reliable

doorways to spirit and

make them your own.

I’ve always been an artist

and that path eventually

lead me to Sacred

Geometry. My artistic

talent showed itself early

and by the time I was four

years old I had come to

believe that a special talent had been given to me for

some mysterious spiritual purpose; as if it were an

assignment straight from God. I was totally

convinced. With an enthusiastically willing heart I

took on the spiritual assignment of becoming a

serious artist.

But what was an artist.... really? I was just a little

boy and I had no idea how to make my inspired

vision come true. So I went to my mother with the

obvious question. “Mommy, what is an artist?”

At first she smiled at me and then squinted at me,

guarded and thinking. I had been asking

metaphysical questions of her from the time I could

speak. Each question of mine would prompt another

question and so on until she would completely lose

her patience with me. She looked up at the ceiling,

her forefinger just touching her temple as if searching

her invisible mental library for the most appropriate

answer. Finally her eyes brightened as she pulled out

a dusty old one-liner and read it to the ceiling.

“Charles,” she said, “an artist pursues truth and

beauty.”

Then she softened, looked

straight into my eyes and

said it again, “Charles, an

artist pursues truth and

beauty.”

That short axiom was like

a clear bell. “Oh,” is all I

could say, intuitively

sensing profound truth.

And now after all these

numerous decades, it still

holds the same power.

In Wichita Kansas, the

early 1940's, my entire

large family did not think

making art was at all

practical. After all, there was real work to do; food

to grow, machines to build and a war to win. It was

alright have a little artistic talent which could lead to

a nice hobby but the idea of even thinking about

“Fine Art” as a profession was simply unacceptable.

They went on and on, trying to dissuade me. I think

they actually believed that if I became a full time

serious artist I would eventually go completely mad

and cut off my ear like that poor insane maniac artist

“what's-his-name” Vincent Van Gogh. They were

frightened.... but I wasn't.

Regardless of their fear, I pressed on. In the early

1950's I was a teenager living in the Chicago area. It

was then I discovered the surrealist painters. I read

library books with countless reproductions of the Image above: Metatron’s Cube

Page 16: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times January 2010 Edition

surrealist works by Max Ernst, Jean Arp, Man Ray,

Joan Miro, Yves Tanguy, Rene Magritte, Alberto

Giacometti. Salvador Dali, etc. I was totally

fascinated by the surrealists because they were

investigating their own internal dream worlds, their

subconscious imagery. This kind of thinking struck a

nerve in me and, at that point, I thought of myself as

a “Surrealist”. I could feel the serious TRUTH of

honest self-investigation.

Then high school, art school, marriage and

fatherhood. The practical necessities of life had

finally caught up with me. I became a professional

portrait photographer out of necessity and

immediately began to make a decent living. The

family was happy as I had apparently started to

become respectable. I

stopped making serious art

and turned to photographic

commerce. Surrealism

was now the last thing on

my conscious mind.

The 1960's however, upset

my comfort zone. They

were extremely

challenging years with

fundamental shifts of the

collective consciousness

on multiple levels. lines in

the sand were being

drawn: the Civil Rights

movement, assassinations

right and left, the Sexual

Revolution, another

horrible war, the Women's

Movement, Black Power, top level corruption in

government, rampant and open drug use by the

young, and numerous people coming out of various

kinds of closets on all levels. And these were just

some of the dynamic power-shifting energies at

work. I was horribly conflicted and miserable.

And then, on June 17 1970, my thirtieth birthday, I

experienced a profound mystical realization in which

I remembered my early and intimate connections to

spirit, and the commitment I had made to my own

God given talents. The entire experience lasted

almost two days. There were no drugs of any kind

involved, but in those altered states I glimpsed

numerous eye-opening visions including my

unfulfilled potentials. I had received a gigantic dose

of my own ignorance and failure. I was thereby

humbled to the level of a worm. Almost everything I

thought I believed in was simply untrue, or at best

only partially true. It was an intensely numbing

experience, simultaneous death and rebirth. I cried

and prayed for hours.

Miraculously, a benevolent voice began to instruct

me. He told me his name was “Watcher” and further

told me he was there because I had called for help.

“Watcher” rapidly became like a guru to me. I

trusted him completely. He guided me almost every

day for the next two very difficult years, about the

length of time it took me to reinvent myself. By then

I had changed my profession from portrait to

commercial photography. I had already begun to

make serious surrealistic

art again and had returned

to the Cleveland Institute

of Art as a night school

student. I felt wonderful

because I had regained my

personal intimate

connection with the

Universe and rediscovered

my early vision of a

mysterious spiritual

purpose.

Watcher instructed me that

it was time for him to go.

He gave me specific

instructions relating to

various studies, insisted I

continue my meditations

in earnest, and then simply

went away.

I took his advice, studying and growing for five more

years (1977) until another trilling mystical experience

catapulted me to a whole new level. It began with a

surrealist drawing experiment based on a relatively

bad photograph I had taken of a beautiful young

couple standing in front of a large fireplace. I felt a

strong intuitive attraction to the out of focus

photograph and transposed the basic composition to a

large piece of white paper. Working with fine quill

pens and ink allowed me to slip into meditational

calmness. I found my consciousness up on the

ceiling and watching myself drawing below. It was

thrilling and amazing to watch my own creative

process unfold from above. The part of me which

Image above: Astrology: 1,2,3,4,12

Page 17: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times January 2010 Edition

was drawing was also enjoying the fantastic images

which were swimming in the blank parts of the

drawing. It was open-eyed dreaming. I had already

experienced very powerful transcendental levels of

my own consciousness through the classical practice

of deep meditation but this open-eyed transcendental

experience was much more intense.

Eureka, a TRUE breakthrough! Over the next few

months I continued to develop the same drawing and

the process of quietly working on the small details

lead me into the same kind of open-eyed

transcendental experience. I had stumbled into a

consistently predictable way of accessing my own

dream world while remaining wide awake. I had

discovered a practical technique which allowed me to

directly experience the

essence of the surrealist

philosophy and Sacred

Geometry was just around

the corner.

That drawing (The Saints

Of Jade) was the first of a

large series of

transcendental drawings

all based on my

photography of models.

By 1980, I had already

created over twenty of

these very complicated

and highly detailed

drawings and I was

healing myself in the

process. This series

entitled “The Enchanted

Couples Suite” lead me to an ever deepening

understanding of my own psychological dilemmas

and guided me to my discovery of the power of

Mandala and Sacred Geometry. Aside from the fact

that this work was all figurative, I discovered each

drawing also contained mysterious references to

classic geometric forms (circles, triangles, squares,

spheres, cubes, etc.). And numbers, especially

sequences of numbers, floated in and out of these

drawings. I realized my internal dream creating

“Higher Mind“ was sending me messages in the

language of geometry and numbers. This was the

beginning of my fascination with the concepts of

Mandala making as a transcendental healing process.

I had been successfully attempting to discover the

TRUTH of my own human situation, and now I was

discovering that perfect geometric BEAUTY was

also existing at the deepest levels of my own

universal consciousness. And I could hear my

mother speaking to me from the past, “Charles, an

artist pursues truth and beauty.”

In 1981, I consciously created my very first Mandala

entitled “Nineness”, which was a meditation on the

circle divided into nine equal parts. This piece was

specifically dedicated to the honest pursuit of

TRUTH and BEAUTY and, at that point in time,

became the deepest and most powerful open-eyed

transcendental experience of my life. The creation of

that first Mandala significantly altered my life forever

and for the better. The open-eyed transcendental

meditation of Sacred Geometry had begun and,

thousands of mandalas

later, I'm still totally

fascinated.

If you also feel the call to

Sacred Geometry and truly

want to understand this

ever-evolving process, this

is the key. Simply allow

the archetypes of SG to

teach you through your

direct personal

experience. Put your

hands on them, play with

them, contemplate them,

draw them and color

them. Doodle in circles

and have fun in your

studies. You do not have

to have much artistic

ability as blank Mandalas and various Mandala

templates are readily available. If you simply allow

yourself to fall through the doorways of Sacred

Geometry, you will begin to feel its universal beauty

and perfection.

AsWeDream was born in 2001, brainchild of lifetime

musician Mike Ososki. The focus has always been music,

though its evolving expansion now encompasses other

arenas. Creative activities like writing, spirituality, voice-

over, and the arts are now included. Recently,

AsWeDream has even aspired to "business

development" and "management consulting." It is an

umbrella project name, with many and varied rotating

interests and participants. Mike says, "In times like

these, we are especially tasked to go within, striving to

learn who we are and what exactly we have come here

to do."

Musically, like oh so many others, the 1964 Beatles on

Ed Sullivan shot straight to Mike's heart and set the

course, providing a bridge into emotions, a path of

feeling that is always lovely to cross. At age 12, the first

paid gig thrilled his young performer spirit. "It was loads

of fun dressing up as best I could in the late 60s style,

and rockin' out the gym attendees with cover hits of the

day." His personal scrapbook displays the guitar pick

from that occasion.

The late 60s and early 70s brought a wide variety of

bands and Midwest gigs, and finally a move from

Wisconsin to California, to 'make it big' (still waiting on

that one ;) From a family perspective, Mike did well,

married to his marvelous wife for 30+ years and

counting, with two great kids. Artists all.

Back on topic, "There is nothing that so easily touches

my soul, brings tears to my eyes, and connects to deep

inner feeling as the universal power of music," Mike

declares. "This is what I look for while listening to music,

and when creating it. When the vibe is right, all sense of

being here and now as one seems to flow along with it.

For everyone, and especially the artistically-inclined, the

goal is to lose oneself in one's work. We can't pretend

to completely understand how or why this is so, but it

seems to be true for most all of our billions of

emotional hearts on this orb, and thank God for it."

The song "As We Dream" speaks a little to this. In Mike's

typically introspective lyrical style, the song gently

grooves and ponders, smoothly querying:

"Who knows what is really in there, deep down under

the surface seen,"

and a little on the idea of time...

"It's always only right now we have to make our reality."

Page 21: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Taking the message out into as big a universal theme as

nearly possible, "Everywhere (is everybody's home)"

asserts exactly that. Co-written by Mike with daughter

April, (also featured on lead vocal), the lyric states that

there is...

"A piece of you in everyone you meet"

and a bit of bridge advice that...

"When the world don't treat you right

Go inside to find your light

If the world don't treat you fair

Remember you're not alone in out there"

Who knows where AsWeDream will go from here?

Whether music or business, Mike feels that the name is

a succinct descriptor for the current condition of most

all of humanity. He claims that "In keeping with my

practice following the tenets of "A Course in Miracles," I

do believe that it is, as it self-declares, 'a required

course.' We can only choose when to take it." He thinks

why not Now? "It promises to save a bunch of lifetimes

in this tough classroom, so why wait?"

No matter which paths AsWeDream takes, Mike intends

to maintain a practice of ever-deepening self-awareness

toward forgiveness, as defined by The Course. And, as

we dream constructively here on planet Earth, the more

"holy instants" we can realize toward attaining our

"happy dream," the better!

What are your patterns? Do you move in cycles?

Whether the movement of the stars through the heavens, or the evolution of life, there are simple structures and patterns that repeat throughout existence.

We discover the natural patterns that appear in microscopes from the most basic life also can be seen through telescopes as the universe creates and recreates. Scale is irrelevant from nanometers to light years.

Infinite diversity from ultimate simplicity.

The Nautilus is a metaphor for our personal spiritual journey. As the Nautilus grows it creates larger and larger cells to hold its greater volume. While it lives

only in the most recent cell; it carries, and cannot be separated from, the remnants of its earlier self.

The Nautilus looks forward, to the future, lives in the most current cell, the present, and feels the weight of all the cells that came before, the past.

Who are we? What are we? We are energy.

Energy that has reached a high enough level of complexity that we are capable of perceiving our own existence.

Our energy spans the range from the compact, low vibration, ephemeral energy that we perceive as matter, our body; to the ethereal, high vibration energy that we have defined as our higher self, a Being of Light. However, it is misleading to think of the material and the ethereal as separate. We are in fact, a

single being who’s energy encompasses a wide spectrum.

Having achieved self awareness, how do we continue our forward development to an even greater energetic complexity? Chakras have been used by many systems, from ancient religions to the most modern spirituality, as easy to understand guideposts. Steps on the Stairway to Heaven. Chakras are an

understanding of the energy that we are and how that energy manifests in our every day life. Energy is a continuous spectrum, and like the colors that represent them, think of chakras merely as markers along a continuous path.

Each discipline, from religious to spiritual to healing and scientific, interprets the chakra energy scale for different purposes. Each focuses on specific details

and expands upon that greater knowledge for specific results. However, I feel that it is also an advantage to see the forest as well as the trees. Step back for a moment and consider all the various Chakra disciplines. In their most basic forms, aren’t they all just different perspectives of the same

concept? Like numerous people viewing a faceted jewel from different directions, each person’s description will be unique, even though they are all describing the same jewel.

May olden days be long forgot

When painful ways are but a thought

May now we learn to see the light

Not look for ways to hate and fight

May in this life we rise above

Return at last to lasting love

May we no longer be life bound

To a past which just keeps comin’ round

May we change our ways of lore

Advance beyond what’s gone before

May we transform lives full of fear

And learn what we are doing here

May we finally end all ways of old

And know there’s more than we’ve been told

May olden days be long forgot

What to do? Where to go? Why does this happen? Only God

knows.

My head is cloudy, And my eyes sting. Can someone explain? Something, Anything? Stuck in the middle, Torn up inside. Damned if I do, Damned if I hide. Am I all alone? Does anyone feel the same? Hopeless and helpless, With only myself to blame. In a funk, Can’t get out. Lost within, Full of doubt. Help Me! Help Me! I’m sinking fast. Someone save me, My sanity won’t last.

Give me direction. Show me the way. Who do I talk to? What do I say?

So many questions. Too much fear. Be patient, my beloved. I am always here. Who, What, When, Where, Why and How? All that matters, Is the Here and Now. Questions are answered, When you must know. T’was the centuries before Christ mass

And all through the forest

Every creature was stirring

For none then deplored us!

For man was part of nature

And nature part of the grand old plan

Where understanding was an act of reverence

And your entire world was with your clan.

People often worked together then

For winters were hard

For healing there were women

And many a good Bard

For tales they be told

Though ne’r written down

Of life’s cycles and changes

In the Goddess’s own gowns

Green was for spring time

And life with the lamb

Yellow for your fellow

Who with summer you stand

Red for the homestead

And the harvest you all planned

And blue white for that cold winters night

Where the snow covered ever green

And perhaps your own hearth light

Promised a true rebirth

Across all this great land.

For giving not guile

Was the true ways of the wild

Where life was lived by your gifts

And not by the piles you might steal from your

friends

For moment by moment did your future extend

Through both darkness and daylight

And knowing the real difference

Between true enemies and good friends.

And then came the butchers, the Barons, and

Lards

To cut up the landscape and deal us new cards

And the Romans soon followed them

Whilst life got true hard

Leaving little but depression

And poverty’s regards

While thieves ruled their road ways

Paved now by more bloodshed

Then they were… fallen leaves.

And then came the crosses

Who with their red flannelled bosses did rule

They cut down the forest

And made nations of fools

Who replaced the old Yule tree

With penance and swords

Promising eternal platitudes and mournful

service

To the great God of new horns.

For the horn of plenty did now blow

For those whom the robes took in tow

And the horn of victory and valor

For those who rose out of squallier

To smite their own enemies

In the name of this new lord

Making enemies of our own true nature

With the pride of a good sword

Thus in darkness we were commanded

To level our lands

Whilst understanding became an impossibility

With such con-fusion on our hands

And yet the hardships delivered concretes

That soon filled our city streets

Making smokestacks and jokes facts

Out of all the old faiths we might keep.

And so to the victor now goes spoils

Whilst the world oils were spilled

Making vehicles out of money

And all life a cheap thrill

Whilst the Yule tree became nothing

But yet another decoration for this time of

great feast

Wherein your own morals maybe no more than

a well televised illusion

Than a true taming of the beast.

But take heart my almighty friends

And all you other sweet peoples who now

gather

Round any solstice charms

The season was given to us for a good reason

And that was not to take arms

But rather just clasp them together

Around any good old Yule tree

And suddenly you will find yourself included

In Mother Nature's real dreams.

The Clans just gotten larger now

So there's more to relink?

SECOND SIGHT

I’m a psychiatrist and intuitive in Los Angeles.

What I do isn’t my job. It’s my life’s passion.

With patients and in workshops, I listen with my

intellect and my intuition, a potent inner wisdom

that goes beyond the literal. I experience it as a

flash of insight, a gut feeling, a hunch, a dream.

By blending intuition with orthodox medical

knowledge I can offer my patients and workshop

participants the best of both worlds. Now,

listening to intuition is sacred to me, but learning

to trust it has taken years. I’ve described the

details in my memoir Second Sight which is

meant to assure anyone whoever thought they

were weird or crazy for having intuitive

experiences, that they are not! This brief

synopsis gives you a good sense of the book.

I grew up in Beverly Hills the only daughter of

two-physician parents with twenty-five

physicians in my family. From age nine, I had

dreams and intuitions that would come true. I

could predict illness, earthquakes, even the

suicide of one of my parent’s friends. This

confused and alarmed me, as it did my parents

who were entrenched in the hard-core rational

world of science. At first they tried to write my

intuitions off as coincidence. Finally, though,

after I dreamed my mother’s mentor would loose

a political election--which to my horror, came

true--she took me aside and told me, “Never

mention another dream or intuition in our house

again!” I’ll never forget the look in my dear

mother’s exasperated, frightened eyes, nothing I

ever wanted to see again. So from that day on, I

kept my intuitions to myself. I grew up ashamed

of my abilities; sure there was something wrong

with me.

Luckily, I’ve had many angels in human form

whove pointed me to my true calling as

MY INTUITIVE

JOURNEY

By Judith Orloff

physician. In the sixties I got heavily involved

with drugs in an attempt to block my intuitions

out—not something I’m recommending to you!

Following a nearly fatal car accident at age

sixteen when I tumbled over a treacherous 1500

foot cliff in Malibu Canyon, my parents forced

me to see a psychiatrist. This man was the first

person who ever “saw” me--not who he wanted

me to be, but who I was. He taught me to begin

to value the gift of intuition, and referred me to

Dr. Thelma Moss, a intuition researcher at the

UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. She was to

become my mentor and guide to developing my

intuitive side.

While working in Thelma’s lab I had an

amazingly specific dream which announced,

“You’re going to become an MD, a psychiatrist,

to help legitimize intuition in medicine.” When I

awoke, I felt like someone was playing a

practical joke on me. I’d never liked science,

and I was bored around all my parent’s doctor-

friends. I was a hippie living in an old converted

brick Laundromat with my artist-boyfriend in

Venice Beach, working in the May Company’s

towel department. (I’ve had a great love of

towels and sheets since!) The last thing I

envisioned doing was medicine. But because I

was beginning to trust my intuition, I enrolled in

a junior college just to see how it would go. So

one course became two, became fourteen years

of medical training--USC medical school and a

UCLA psychiatric internship and residency.

The irony was, that during my medical training I

strayed far from the intuitive world again.

Traditional psychiatry equates visions with

psychosis. Working in the UCLA emergency

room, I’d keep seeing psychotics who were

wheeled in screaming, strapped to gurneys,

accompanied by cops with billy clubs. These

patients professed to hear God and to be able

predict things. They also felt their food was

poisoned, and that the FBI was on their tail. No

one tried to sort through this mishmash of

claims. Typically, patients would shot up with

with Thorazine, hospitalized on lock-down

inpatient units until their “symptoms” subsided.

Seeing this so many times I doubted whether it

was safe or appropriate to integrate my intuitions

in medicine.

When I opened my Los Angeles psychiatric

practice in 1983, I had every intention of it being

traditional; I’d use medications, psychotherapy,

but I didn’t intend for intuition to play a role.

My practice was extremely successful. Since I

was a workaholic and also loved helping people,

I had twelve hour days, though very little

personal life. But then I had a heart-wrenching

wake-up call that changed everything. It was an

intuition that a patient, on antidepressants, was

going to make a suicide attempt. Because she

was doing so well--nothing supported my

hunch--I dismissed it. Within a week she

overdosed on the antidepressants I’d prescribed

and ended up in a coma for nearly a month. (Had

she not survived I would’ve been devastated.)

The hardest part, though, was that I thought I’d

harmed her by not utilizing a vital piece of

intuitive information. This was intolerable for

me. From then on, I knew, as a responsible

physician, I had to integrate my intuitions into

my work.

After this episode, my journey to bring intuition

into my medical practice began. I didn’t know

how I’d do it, but I put out a silent prayer to the

universe to help me. Soon, I began meeting

people, more angels, who showed me the way.

Gradually I grew comfortable with my intuition,

set out to write “Second Sight.” This took me

seven years to complete because I had so much

fear about coming out of the closet as an

intuitive. I was afraid of what my physician-

peers would think that they’d mock me or

blackball me from the profession. My mother

warned, “They’ll think you’re weird. It’ll

Page 39: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Om-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

jeopardize your medical career.” Ah Mother: I

loved her, but thank god I didn’t listen. Finding

my voice as a psychiatrist and intuitive has been

my path to freedom.

Sure, there’s a risk when you stretch yourself,

but the rewards are enormous. Now, I’m blessed

to travel around the country giving workshops

on intuition to auditoriums full of extraordinary

people--health care professionals and general

audiences--who long to embrace their inner

voice. I’m heartened to see that many physicians

are eager to deal with patients in the new way I

offer. I gave an intuitive

healing workshop at the

American Psychiatric

Association convention, a

annual gathering of the

most conservative

psychiatrists in the world.

I’m pleased to report the

response was wonderful.

I’m sad to report that my

mother didn’t live long

enough to see this. In 1993

she died of a lymphoma.

But, on her deathbed, she

decided to tell me our

“family secrets.” She told

me, “I want to pass the

power onto you.” I was astounded to learn that I

came from a lineage of intuitive healers on her

side of the family--my Jewish grandmother who

did laying on of hands in a shed behind the

pharmacy she and Grandpop ran in Philadelphia.

East coast aunts and cousins I’d never met since

I grew up in California. Also, my mother,

herself, had a strong inner voice which told her

how to treat patients for over forty years. She’d

listened to this voice and secretly used her innate

healing powers to keep her lymphoma in

remission for many years. “Why didn’t you tell

me?” I asked her. She said simply, “I wanted

you to lead a normal, happy life, not to be

thought of as weird like your grandmother was.”

Oh Mother... I’ll always be grateful for what she

shared, but, still... she’d waited so long. Even so,

I believe in the wisdom of the paths we’ve been

given. Mine has been to fight for what I believed

in despite what my parents or anyone said. An

invaluable but rugged lesson in empowerment.

These days, no matter what I’m going through,

especially when my heart is torn in a million

pieces my intuition has sustained me. I hope that

my journey in my book “Second Sight” can

help you. One thing I’m

certain of: if you follow

your intuitive voice, you

can’t go wrong. Stay true

to it. Intuition is about

empowerment, not having

to conform to someone

else’s notion of who you

should be. It’s about being

true to yourself, and all the

goodness that comes from

that.

Cynthia's Miracle

by Rev. Judi A. Lynch

A couple of days before my Psychic Awareness and Healing

Energy Workshop in March of 09, I received an email from a

woman named Cynthia. She said she had heard about me

through a local metaphysical group and wanted to know if there

was room for her to attend. I wrote back and told her there

would be plenty of room at the spiritual center and we would

see her there. That was pretty much all I knew about her, her

name, how she had heard about me and her email address.

It was a small crowd that day. Everyone there had either taken

my class, heard my lecture, or had a reading and healing

session with me. Except for Cynthia. She walked in and I

introduced myself knowing it had to be her because I knew

everyone else there. She looked terribly depressed and seemed

to be in pain. I could see it in her eyes and her face and in her

entire body.

Page 41: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Through my lecture and questions and answers

she sat there and listened. Then I asked if

anyone wanted a healing session to see if they

could feel this Healing Light Energy vibration.

Cynthia got up from the bench and walked to a

chair at the front of the room. She said, "I have

to be honest with you, I don't know what I'm

doing here. I don't even know what I believe in

anymore". I'm always skeptical. I understood.

She looked like she had been in pain for a long

time. Not just physical pain but emotional pain

as well. If someone needed a miracle that day,

it was her.

Donna, who had been working with me on

energy channeling put her hands on Cynthia's

shoulders. I said, "Can you feel that? No, I don't

feel anything" she said. So I walked over to her,

"Let me try" I put my hands on her shoulders,

"Can you feel this energy coming through to

you? It's really strong!" "No, not yet" she said.

A few seconds later, there was a presence to

the right of me. A very strong presence. He said

"This is Bert" "Tell her it's Bert" and then I saw

an image of Bert from Sesame Street in my

mind. I leaned down and looked at her and said

"Who is Bert?" She put her head in her hands

and started crying. "Oh my God, that's my Dad!"

and she repeated it a couple times.

Everyone in the room just sat there as I looked

around at them and then several of us started

tearing up too. I said, "I think I know why you

came here now, don't you?" She said "He's

been dead for a very long time and that was

his nickname! I can't believe that! I can't

believe it! You could never have known his

name! He and I always argued about religion

and spirituality."

After we all calmed down, she and I had a

little time to talk. She had been having a real

spiritual crisis along with pain from

fibromyalgia and had been very depressed. It

was obvious that Bert came in to let her

know he was around and watching out for

her and everything was going to get better.

He told me to tell her several things about

his religious beliefs while he had been here

and how he had gained instant spiritual

knowledge when he crossed over. She

verified to me it all made complete sense.

A few months later, we talked again and I

asked her how she was doing. She said after

that day, she was just fine spiritually. It had

healed something inside her and brought her

a lot of comfort. She had also been

meditating and feeling energy come in.

A while after that we met in town to listen to

a drum circle in the park. She looked like a

different person, happier and more at peace

with her life and the future possibilities. It is

a real miracle to me every time I am able to

hear and feel the other side and repeat what

they are telling me, and it was a miracle for

Cynthia who needed one so much that day.

Rewrite Your "Action" Script!

Drama!

Dear Ones: We are each connected by threads

unseen, energies that travel and bind the

universe. One of these threads is silver. The

writing you read here is titled, "Silver Threads." It

is a simply written message containing

alternatives to everyday life choices, and how a

bit of change can bring to you a new world.

Happy reading, Marsha

Rewriting Your Script!

"What I am looking for is not out there. It is in

me!” Helen Keller

Basic Script Groups as introduced in the December

2009 issue of Om-Times Magazine Silver Threads are

Action, Drama, Tragedy and Comedy. The first to be

discussed was Action. Remember, the Action script

has you - the Actor, The Star – giving your all - all the

time, hoping that through your ever vigilant Action,

you will be noticed, appreciated, valued, or in

another word - LOVED!

And now Drama! This time the producer/director

(you, you, and you) has presented a Drama. The

Drama script is gut wrenching, heart rendering and

gripping. Imagine a Drama without despair, buckets

of tears, and, just a drip of physical, mental or

emotional pain. It would not qualify as an Award

winning show – would it? For a Drama to be at its

best it must have hankie-wringing, nail-biting,

shudder–when-you-take-a-deep-breath exploits.

Now, picture (to pun or not to pun) your everyday

life as a Drama - What does that say about your

perspective or, your choices? When gazing at life,

which glasses are you looking through? Are they

rose-colored, do you force a ‘the sun will come out

tomorrow’ attitude for the benefit of those around

you? Are your glasses a smoked-grey and so tinted

that everything you see is dark and gloomy? Within

the Drama script is a propensity toward choosing the

negative point of view. Nothing will workout; no one

ever listens to you – why should they, no one

respects you; and heaven forbid why bother to try

anything new when nothing changes and nothing

ever will. If any of these thoughts reflect your own,

you have categorically elected to be the lead actor in

a Drama.

As with all behaviors, there is a payoff for the

Drama. Most would deny there is a perk or a reward

for such a bleak, devastating life. However, when we

repeat a performance; when the behavior is a way of

life, there is always a bonus of some kind. With an

Action script, essentially the perk is being loved. In a

Drama script, the perk is getting to play the role of

the victim or the martyr. Believe it or not, to play the

lead in a Drama one has to be strong and quite

devoted to the role. It takes great amounts of energy

By Marsha Cook

Part Two

Page 44: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Om-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

to be distressed or angry a majority of the time. Such

a performance is a massive undertaking.

Where does the Drama perspective come from? If

you will look at perspective as a filter, you will see

that your filtering mechanism developed as a result

of the influence of those who piloted your life-

journey. Those closest are typically the most

influential. That which you think, feel and know has

been shared with you from the moment of your

birth. Therefore, before you ‘awaken’ your

viewpoint has already been established and not

consciously chosen. Here you are with this filter that

basically came pre-programmed with a ‘the glass is

half empty’ mechanism.

News bulletin - How you look at life is always a

choice! There comes a time when you are the one

in-charge of your choices; a point in life when you

become the administrator of the power that is

within.

How do you tell the Director you DO NOT want the

lead role in a Drama? You FIRE the Director! Yes,

that is you! Next, hire a new Director. One who is

not mired in past, and ancient history; but is instead

an open and willing spirit - an awakened or

awakening script manager who has limitless pages of

unwritten script. In each human being there lives the

soul of an artist waiting to be set free.

It is an art to be a willing spirit. A heart and mind

that is open to new experiences; open to learning

new insights and putting them into practice is one

that chooses to be in-charge. With this Director

success is yours for the taking! As you create new

history, you get to choose the filter that colors the

glasses through which you perceive your world.

This of course designates a new, lead role – honor

and respect. When you choose first to honor and

respect your Self, all else will follow suit. You can line

up your life dominoes as you please. Why not leave

Drama for the big screen where big scenes are

needed? Rather than pouring your wonderful

energies into a negative script, re-design; use your

life force like drops of water sprinkled over a garden

of brightly colored flowers.

For just a moment, please suspend your reading and

take a deep, cleansing breath; then picture this…The

soil in the garden represents your life; seeds - your

thoughts; water and the warmth of the sun - your

filter, and the flowers – your script. What does your

garden or meadow look like?

Pause here if you will to once again read the opening

quote by Helen Keller. Then review the script you

have chosen. In the most beautiful of things there is

passion, ardor and belief, and a crystal-clear absence

Drama. Are you ready for a new role?

Banish Belly and Other

Aches....Guided

Imagery Helps

Kids Ease Tummy Troubles

By Charlotte Reznick PhD

Eight-year-old Alice suffered from horrible

stomach pain. In my office she closed her eyes,

breathed slowing into her belly, and asked

inside what was the cause.

Stress appeared as a large square black block in

the middle of her brain. What to do? Her inner

voice said Calmness was the antidote. Pictured

as a swirling lavender ball, she breathed Calm

feelings into hands, belly, neck, and head. Stress

melted and her tummy stopped hurting.

Over the past 25 years I’ve seen how the pain of

chronic stomachaches and headaches can

debilitate a child. The worry, anxiety, fear of

pain, and feeling out of control can send kids

over the edge. But kids can also learn

imagination techniques to help them heal.

I was therefore extremely pleased to read

about the new research just published in the

November journal of Pediatrics showing that

guided imagery CDs relieved children’s chronic

stomach pain. Conducted at The University of

North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke

University Medical Center, 30 children ages 6-

15 listened to relaxing CDs several times a week

over eight weeks. The children enjoyed the CDs

so much that there was virtual complete

compliance. Their results showed 63.1% of the

Treatment group significantly decreased their

pain, compared to 26.7% in a control group that

just received standard medical care. Once the

two-month study was over, the control group

was given the same guided imagery treatment

so they wouldn’t lose out; results were similar

(61.5% improved). At a six-month follow-up,

children continued to do well.

One of their images stood out. The children

imagined a special object like butter melting

into their hands making them warm and shiny,

then placing their hands on ailing tummies,

spreading warmth and light inside to create a

protective barrier that prevented anything from

irritating their bellies. I often use a similar direct

hands-on approach to teach children they can

heal themselves.

My focus is children and teens learning to

create their own imageries through a toolbox of

nine core imagination skills to mix and match as

Page 46: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

needed. Their personal kit includes: the relaxing

balloon breath, discovering a safe special place,

meeting wise animal friends and wizards as

guides, receiving gifts from them to assist,

connecting to the wisdom of their heart and

belly, dialoging with symptoms and feelings,

and using color and energy for healing and pain

control.

With these tools, kids make up their own

creative scenarios. Below are five suggestions to

help you on your way.

1. Teach the Balloon Breath as a Foundation

Tool

The Balloon Breath is a simple technique of

breathing slowly and deeply into the belly while

focusing attention about two inches below the

navel. This type of diaphragmatic breathing

helps center and calm.

2. Pay Attention to Wisdom of Inner Guides

An imagined Animal Friend (or Wizard) can be a

valuable tool to access inner wisdom. These

imaginary guides are kind, loving, and have a

child's best interest at heart. Gifts from them

are used to receive power and assistance. One

six-year-old boy’s pride of lions stood guard

around his hospital bed to give him courage

during a frightening medical test. Another

eleven-year-old girl received the Gift of a spiral-

moving rainbow to heal chronic stomach pains,

along with rainbow glasses to see the world in a

more positive light.

3. Incorporate Color to Relieve Pain

When children are very focused and involved

with their personal imageries, they are

distracted from their pain. One seven-year-old

girl created a “color therm-o-meter” that could

raise or lower different emotions and pain. She

initially worked with feelings; they seemed

easier for her then the pain itself. She increased

‘blue’ Calmness and decreased ‘orange’ Fear;

then increased ‘pink’ Love and decreased ‘black’

Anger. This helped her progress directly to

reducing her pain in a similar manner. And a 12-

year-old boy found that by first increasing his

pain, he realized he had some control over it.

He then used this control to lower his pain to an

acceptable level.

4. Practice the Three-Question Exercise

It’s an easy imagery formula that may relieve or

totally eliminate pain. Start with doing the

Balloon Breath. Ask your child: “Where in your

body do you feel the pain?” Then follow with:

(1) What color is it?

(2) What shape is it?

(3) How heavy is it?

Page 47: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Be accepting and positive of any response. Have

your child continue to breath slowly three or

four times between rounds. Repeat the three

questions and your reactions to them.

Over the course of three to five to ten minutes,

there is generally a change from dark, sharp,

and heavy, to light in color, round, and light in

weight. I’ve seen this work with all kinds of

pain. The length of this process depends on

your child’s openness to relaxation and the

intensity of pain.

If there are any bits of pain left, suggest a

conversation with Pain in order to find out what

your child needs to know, understand, or do to

let go of the rest. Or, he can imagine melting

away any leftover hurt through his body

(through skin, belly button, or whatever he

comes up with).

5. Use the Power of Audio

As in the fine UNC/Duke study, a well-chosen

relaxation CD can work wonders. A favorite all-

purpose guided imagery with the kids I see is

imagining planting a magical garden where they

visualize growing healthy and strong. While

their garden grows, they float in a nearby

healing pond, allowing the waters to wash away

their pain, or heal inside hurts by drinking from

the special liquid. After one group session,

three boys were relieved of the pain of their

stomachache, headache, and canker sore

respectively. You may create your own, try the

script on pages 127-128 in The Power of Your

Child’s Imagination* or have your child listen to

the Creating a Magical Garden and Healing

Pond CD I recorded.**

Remember, it’s not necessary to have the

perfect script, or years of experience for facility

with this work. What is important is your

sincerity, your respect for your children and

their process, and your allowing them to bring

forth their natural inner wise healer. As a young

pre-teen discovered:

“Your imagination can help you heal.”

Caroline Boudreaux is the Founder and Executive Director

of The Miracle Foundation, which was born as a labor of

love after she visited India for the first time in 2000. She

was taking a one-year sabbatical from her job in

television advertising; although she had enjoyed career

success, it lacked meaning and purpose to Caroline. India

was one stop on an around-the-world journey she was

taking with a friend.

For five years prior, Boudreaux’s friend Chris Monheim

had sponsored, through the Christian Children's Fund

(CCF), a little boy in India named Manus. Monheim

wanted to meet him in order to find out if he was

receiving her support. The two women arrived in India in

May and were able to locate Manus. He was exactly as his

letters had described and he had, indeed, received the

sponsorship money and letters from Monheim. She was

thrilled to meet him and pleased that her money was

helping.

During their visit, the director of CCF invited the women

to his home for dinner. When they arrived, they found

that he was caring for 100 beautiful, smiling, parentless

children in his home. Boudreaux had never thought about

orphans before, much less held them, and she was not

prepared for what she was about to experience.

Later that evening, a little girl named Sheebani came and

put her head on Boudreaux’s knee. The orphan was so

tired that Boudreaux picked her up, and the girl literally

pushed her body into Boudreaux’s arms. Boudreaux sang

a lullaby and rocked her to sleep. Upon carrying the little

girl to bed, Boudreaux discovered that the children’s

room contained thirty wooden-slatted beds. No pillows,

no mattresses, no blankets, just wooden slats similar to

those on a picnic table. When Boudreaux heard

Sheebani’s bones hit that wooden bed, she was broken-

hearted. It was incomprehensible to Boudreaux that

children were living this way. She knew she had to do

something to help and that she had to act soon. The

Miracle Foundation was established that day, May 14,

2000, Mother's Day in the U.S. Over the next few years,

Boudreaux began recruiting donors, volunteers and

sponsors to give these orphans, and others like them, a

childhood and a future. Today, The Miracle Foundation

operates three orphanages and a home for single

mothers, all located in eastern India, one of the most

impoverished regions of that country.

Caroline was born and raised in Lake Charles, Louisiana

and attended LSU where she earned a B.A. in Psychology.

Before The Miracle Foundation, Boudreaux worked as an

Account Executive for Fox Television and was in charge of

new business development for Tocquiny Advertising.

Throughout her career, she has created long-lasting

partnerships with such companies as Freescale, AMD, and

Trilogy. Boudreaux was the recipient of the Hope Award,

Every Moment is a Choice Point

by Steve Sisgold

The end of the year brings another transition time for us

and moves people to action. A friend of mine's partner

suddenly moved to action and left him last week and I

found myself saying what I have said to myself and others

so often, "No mistakes.) With compassion of course) "You

will learn and grow from this transition. Wow, in time,

you'll see why this needed to happen and see that her

leaving is divinely orchestrated and a gift, even though

now you feel crushed but in time..."

If you are going through any important end of year

transitions in your life, may this story inspire you to put

your seat belt on and jump into the mystery. Or don't

wear your seat belt at all. Breathe deeply as you take this

journey with me.

It is a cold, foggy November morning. I wake up tight and

sick, and feel very contracted; like my body is a telephone

booth with 12 people crammed inside it. It is the day

after my partner told me she wanted to "break up." My

mind starts to spin tales ranging from, "I'm having a heart

attack, my life is ruined, I will never meet another

woman, I will die alone..." and more. My imagination was

having a field day scaring me with one bad scenario after

another. All of a sudden, I remember that I am at a choice

point, so I take a breath and stop thinking, letting myself

off from the hook from scary, disastrous scenarios, I am

making up in my mind. I say to myself "In this moment, I

have a choice. And I choose to be fully present," while

taking 3 long, deep breaths, tuning in to my body

awareness. I sort out what is real and what is not.

"Nothing I was thinking is true. I am not having a heart

attack. There is no factual evidence that I will never have

a relationship again or die alone and my life is far from

ruined. I am wasting precious time mesmerized in the

illusion. What is factual is that I am scared, my body is

tight and I am getting a message that I am at a very big

choice point in my life and it is time for me to take

control of what I can, and let go of what I can't, and make

some changes in my life.

I sit quietly for awhile and contemplate which changes I

could make. I consider the idea of taking some time off to

properly rethink my life; the farther away and the more

unfamiliar the destination, the better! I am excited as I

close my eyes; take a breath, in anticipation of a picture

showing me where to go. After a moment, a distinct

impression develops. My heartbeat quickens. I see

villages, temples, the Ganges River. I take a deep breath

and in the next heartbeat I feel a very strong instinct to

travel to India.

I choose to drive into San Francisco and visit the Indian

Embassy to "feel" it out. I enter the building and am

instantly overwhelmed with fear. I forget I am at a choice

point, go numb, disconnect from my body, and drive

home quickly trying to talk myself out of India. My mind

is spinning with fear thoughts again, like "I might get

malaria or dysentery. It's too polluted. I won't be able to

take the poverty. I won't be safe". By the time I arrive

home, I remember that I am at another choice point. I say

my affirmation, breathe and realize that none of what I

was thinking about was fact, just mental concerns. I know

I can prevent myself from catching diseases and can avoid

what I perceive as unsafe or uncomfortable areas. I

reassure myself that I will have many choices in India and

I will stay conscious of my needs and choose wisely. I

return to the Embassy excited and secure my visa. One

week and one long plane ride later I am in the middle of a

wild street scene in Pune, a town about five hours from

Bombay. I notice I am holding my breath and afraid. I

close my eyes for one long, deep breath and remind

myself once again, I am face to face with another choice

point.

I feel very present and alive and my fear dispels as I look

around. I see homes made of cardboard, people huddled

Page 54: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

around fires cooking grain, a wedding procession

parading down the street with drummers and candle

bearers, bicyclists and scooter drivers dodging and

honking at each other, and a man urinating. I'd visited

many parts of the world but this was unlike anything I

had ever encountered. Life is inside-out: everything is

happening on the street, not behind walls. As I watch the

people, so at ease in their environment, I imagine I look

like a clothed person in a nudist camp. (One more quick

spin thought).

Taking a deep breath, I start to laugh, and my body

relaxes a little, as I remember a cartoon book that I

owned as a young boy. The book featured a skinny guy in

a turban and loincloth, asking himself in the midst of all

sorts of unexpected environments. I remember him in a

bullfight, a mob scene and alone on a mountaintop. As a

kid, that book had fascinated and impacted me deeply,

yet I hadn't thought about it for over 40 years. Now, I was

the one appearing on the next new page. I take a deep

breath and take my surroundings in again.

Here I am in India seeking answers and peace of mind. I

realize it doesn't matter what events led me here, I am in

India, on my own, here for a big life change! Now I begin

fantasizing about where my epiphany might occur. At the

Ganges River? In the Himalayan Mountains? In the cave

of an ascended master?

Udder Joy

My thoughts suddenly give way as an entire herd of cows

amble down the street right through the wedding

procession. The cows look relaxed, content, as if they

belong. No one but me is phased by their presence. As I

watch them I begin to relax and a calm feeling flows

through my body. I wonder how my life would be if I

were to walk through India - and life - like the cows? They

appear at home right now. Do I?

In that moment, I realize, all of my money is on the table.

This is a jackpot chance for me to truly live in Choice

point mode. Being alone in India is offering me a chance

to witness and practice how I move back and forth from

trusting. All of a sudden, my journey takes on more

meaning. I am in a royal experiment to practice what I

preach. I commit to feel everything and accept what is

happening in the moment and make conscious choices.

I tune in to the cows some more and notice that they live

in their whole, wide bodies, not just in their minds. I

laugh, realizing that I have discovered a new philosophy,

and call it "cow consciousness!" To flow with life and

trust and listen to my instincts, to embrace the moment,

with the aid of my ally, guide, and sage - my body. "Cow

Consciousness!" The more I say it, the more I like it.

I close my eyes and tune in to my whole body/mind.

Peace floods my body deeply. I am still aware of the

chaos outside, yet I feel content and serene. The chatter

in my mind is gone. I feel vividly present and incredibly

alive, because I am now feeling my whole body, head to

toe, rather than living out of my head. A quiet miracle has

just occurred, my epiphany has happened and I didn't

have to climb up the Himalayas to find a guru in a cave! It

was right here in the street, with the cows!

I restate my commitment

to stay present and walk

through India in "Cow

Consciousness." I vow to

remain at home in my body

no matter where I am. My

slogan is "Wherever I go,

whatever choice point I

face, I have choice!" I

notice I feel stronger and

more confident each time I

say it.

The Dalai Lama

The next day India awakens me early with her pungent

smells and cackling chickens. I am filled with anticipation

as I emerge from my modest room onto the street. I nod

and smile and mutter "Namaste" an Indian greeting, to

the curious turbaned Sikhs and the children who follow

me along an alleyway. As I continue walking, I see a man

standing under a sign that says, "Tibetan Medicine." My

mind starts to spin fear thoughts and I remember I am at

a choice point. I sense there is nothing to fear but my

own thoughts and I walk forward. He gestures to me to

follow him. We go up several flights of stairs into a small

office. Another man stands as I enter and waves. He says

two words, "Dalai Lama." I shrug and repeat two words,

"Dalai Lama?" He nods and says, "Come." He mounts a

scooter, and motions for me to climb on the back. For an

instant my mind says "He will kill you and leave you

somewhere never to be found", until I "caught the beat"

and tuned in to my body. I was nervous, and realized my

mind was making up scary dramas. I relax and choose to

ride with him, feeling my excitement growing as we drive

through a maze of busy streets into the tree-filled

countryside. The smells change, the air cools. We arrive in

a large field, where a small circle of colorfully robed

Tibetan Monks are gathered. One of the monks looks

straight at me as I climb off the scooter and walk toward

him. He greets me with laughter and warmth, as if to say,

"Nice to see you again." I am ecstatic; he is the Dalai

Lama!

If someone had asked me a

week ago, when I was in my

mind struggling, if there was

anyone I would like to go to,

for inspiration and clarity, I

would have said "the Dalai

Lama" without hesitation. I

had come to respect him as

one of our greatest living

teachers. I knew that he did not live in Pune and I had not

even thought of looking for him on this journey.

However, by remembering every moment is a choice

point, knowing I had choice and by listening to my whole

body's intelligence, not just the fears my mind created, I'd

been miraculously led directly to him. I think about all the

times my mind's imagination stopped me from following

my instinct and moving forward. I felt incredibly grateful

to meet the Dalai Lama this way because I had heard

stories about people going to great lengths to meet him

and failing.

We are motioned to sit. The Dalai Lama speaks about

kindness. He reminds us to have compassion for

ourselves and for others, to relax and trust and make

conscious choices. His message is a confirmation for me.

My heart is soothed and I feel inspired to teach my

methods, more than ever.

During my remaining weeks in India, the emotional

wounds I have been carrying in my body slowly begin to

heal.

Appreciating our body as our sacred guide on the journey

of transitions

I returned to California with many gifts of understanding

from India. My own experience helped me notice, that all

transitions offer choice points and when I don't trust I

disconnect not only from my mind and body, but my

spirit and inner wisdom too!

Life is one choice point after another. If you are going

through any transition right now, embrace every thing

you feel. Stay awake. Listen and feel every sensation in

your whole body. What is your body telling you? Now go

even deeper into that voice deep within. What do you

hear? Take the quantum leap! Follow that voice, It can

take you where you want to go, even if you don't know

where that is yet.

“Mystery of Life, vibrant in every atom…

Mystery of Light, glowing in every Being and Creature...

Mystery of Love, closer than my breath embracing all in

Oneness.

In the infinite stream of unity, may all who dwell,

know themselves as Love and feel as One with each

other.”

Not too long ago the ideology of unity imbibed the concept

of co-existing ideals, beliefs and tolerance. Things have

changed dramatically. We are now rapidly awakening from

the core of our cells to the subtle dimensional fields of

energy. The concept of unity no longer exists as an

externalized structure but has shifted to a subtle vibrational

holographic field of Love generated from the Heart, a new

lens of consciousness from which all form and action is born.

As the expansive, ever changing momentum of the

universe(s) influences the landscape of our reality through

subtle vibration, humanity is organically ushered into the

experience of Self as the microcosmic particle of the

macrocosm. It is here where Love cannot help but be the

dictating force of oneness.

Love, the cosmic glue that permeates and unifies all

existence is the driving source of our evolution as it

activates vibrating portals of consciousness in the heart.

Love in its purest expression exceeds romantic

entertainment. Authentic Love takes on a new hue of

meaning from the depths of our hearts and souls. So strong

a current, the mind cannot help but surrender. Ever

changing, yet the same, Love, the only constant that

remains true to the nature of Source. Love, the vibrant

breath of life that speaks through Being.

“Love, cast your fragrance of eternal light through the

fated winds of life.

I yearn for one drop of your sweetness that burns

illusion to cinder

so my Heart can taste freedom.”

Many ancient teachings including the Yoga Sutras of

Patanjali are guides to understanding and mastering the

mind to source consciousness. Practices like yoga and

meditation serve as tools of awareness and activation where

one experiences individual consciousness merging with

supreme consciousness. There is a pathway of applying

thought, I call, “Conscious Alchemy” where one observes

thought, feels the vibration of thought and transforms the

kaleidoscope of perceptions to one singular vibrational

thought wave of love. It is here where unity and oneness is

experienced.

“Love, in one breath you dwell in the space between

words...

In one breath you heal... In one breath, I become.”

Our brain, glandular system, nervous system, and energetic

systems are designed for enlightenment. Realizing this,

awakening to the remembrance can be a gradual process

where life itself serves as a platform for our unfolding light.

Invoking Love, life becomes a feast for giving love of One-

Self dancing in the radiance of oneness that originates

beyond consciousness to the source of creation.

We become the experience of oneness as we disappear into

the vast masterpiece of Love.

Transformation happens with every thought, breath and

spark of awareness. We make the choice. Like flowers to

the sun, the human spirit reaches beyond “matter and fact”

to grab the opportunity to Love as the breath of the

universe merges every atom of our Being to a place infinite,

empty, vast and expansive.

Humanity has reached a passage in our evolution where we

have the opportunity to be vanguards of a new paradigm.

Where inter-dependence evolves into a co-creative cycle of

unity. The past and the future merge in a split second of a

conscious choice of Love with every breath of the present,

opening the door to eternal merging of oneness.

“Love, you've kissed me drunk

all I see is you in every face, I taste you in every tear

I dream you in every realm

I walk on your earth, my feet become liquid light

Love, you've kissed me drunk

in the mirror I wake... I cannot turn away.”

Learning How to Embrace Your

Resistance to Change

by Ronald Alexander

It’s that time of

year when we

reflect on the

past and plan for

the future, and

that means

resolve into

change those

habits or

circumstances that we’ve been unhappy with. For many

of us, it also means making the same resolutions we’ve

made—and haven’t fulfilled—year after year. Even

though we all desire or even need to make changes in

our lives, whether we are aware of it or not many of us

are resistant to letting go of old habits. When we make

New Year’s resolutions we often have unrealistic ideas

of how to overcome and stop these resistances from

sabotaging our resolve to change. Then once again we

find ourselves frustrated and unable to move forward.

Instead of fighting and struggling with resistance learn

to embrace and work with it so you can finally break its

hold on you. Here are a couple of steps to help you

achieve success in 2010 with your resolutions from my

widely acclaimed book, Wise Mind, Open Mind:

Step One: Acknowledge & Understand

Your Resistance

The first step in embracing your resistance is to identify

what it is and if you have any hidden ones. In my book,

Wise Mind, Open Mind I give readers different

exercises to help them with this. Once you have

acknowledged them the metaphor I like to use is to

mulch your resistances as opposed to overcoming them.

There is an ancient Buddhist story of two farmers living

next to each other. One farmer takes all of his horse

manure and keeps throwing it over the fence into the

other farmer’s yard. About six months later, he notices

the other farmer’s tomatoes are gigantic, his pumpkins

are huge, his corn is green and his front yard is filled

with tall grass. I don’t believe that we can ever get rid of

certain resistances or emotions so instead it is

important to work with mulching them.

Step Two: Learn the Payoffs to Your

Resistance

The next step is to understand the payoffs of resistance,

as these are what are holding you back from moving

forward. Here are five basic ones:

• By resisting change, we can avoid the unknown.

What’s familiar may not be terribly comfortable, but

sometimes it seems that the devil we know is better

than the devil we don’t know. We fear that venturing

into the unknown will cause us to discover painful

secrets about the world and ourselves that have been

hidden from us.

• We can avoid being judged as “strange.” When

parents are frightened by their child’s differentness,

labeling them as “strange,” they’ll usually try to stifle his

creativity. The child, sensing their disapproval and

fearing abandonment, can shut down his creative flow

and then either tries to conform to his parents’

expectations or acts out, claiming not to care what

anyone thinks of him.

• Another payoff is that we can avoid failure. When we

fear failure, we tend to overestimate the risk we’re

taking and imagine the worst possible scenario—the

emotional equivalent of our parents deserting us as

children.

• We can avoid success. Strange though it may seem, a

fear of success can cause as much resistance to change

as a fear of failure can. While you may consciously long

for a promotion or hope that your romantic relationship

will result in marriage, unconsciously you may be afraid

of what will happen if these changes occur.

Keep Your New Year’s Resolutions

Page 59: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Om-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

• Finally we can avoid feeling guilty. If we take a risk and

make a change, we may feel guilty because we’re

contradicting what others think we should or shouldn’t

be doing with our lives.

This New Year is a time of rebirth following so many

months of pain and difficulty during these harsh

economic times. This is the year that we can RISE from

the ashes of our pain and turn them into healthy vibrant

and creative mulch and for people to re-invent

themselves by transforming their breakdowns into

breakthroughs. But making real outer change begins

first with an internal journey and mindfulness is a

powerful tool to help you navigate the inner recesses of

your mind and psyche.

New Year's

Resolution

"Cheers to a New Year and another chance

for us to get it right."

~ Oprah Winfrey

I'm trying to put a fresh new twist for you on

this old, old idea of making New Year's

resolutions and I hope you'll find it inspiring.

Here are the ten most commonly made

resolutions people make, courtesy of Ten

Million Resolutions.

• Lose Weight and Get in Better Physical Shape

• Stick to a Budget

• Debt Reduction

• Enjoy More Quality Time with Family &

Friends

• Quit Smoking

• Find a Better Job

• Learn Something New

• Volunteer and Help Others

• Get Organized

I like to think that I'm a fairly competent judge

of people - this coming from my own

experience and self-assessment - and I have

watch myself permit my own New Year's

Resolutions fade away into never-never land

fairly quickly, so this year, I thought I'd lift up

the shutters on a new product I'm about to

launch that will help you and me to make

changes in our lives AND stay on track all year.

Would you like that?

First, an introduction to my new product. I call it

"My Life Is My Message." You all know that I

hold Gandhi in high esteem as an example and

as a mentor. "My Life is My Message" is his

quotation and one that I try my best to live by.

MLIMM is an inspirational newsletter that I am

going to be sending out Monday through Friday

in 2010 with ideas for how to implement

change in your life.

So, with all that in mind, can you decide what

would be the Ten Most Important Changes you

might like to hold in your mind for 2010?

Changes that would revolutionize you, your

career, your relationships, your ultimate

success, and the accomplishment of Your Big

Dream? I'll share a list of 25 inner resolutions or

areas in which you might like to improve along

with three fill-in-the-blank spaces for your own

ideas. Maybe some of the ideas on the standard

Top Ten list are for you. Please circle first the

ones that resonate with you, and then choose

the Top Ten that sing the loudest.

• Know my Inner Self more intimately

• Understand what motivates me

• Turn my mere beliefs into solid understanding

• Getting my emotions to work for me, not

against me

• Generate deep meaning for my one life

• Using my memories to support vs. sabotage

me

• Focusing my attention to always have lots of

energy

• Seeing who I am clearly

• Becoming assertive for myself

• Accepting praise lovingly and graciously

• Working to understand others vs. judging

them

• Being aware of discomfort and returning to

comfortableness

• Deciding to be a conformist or a non-

conformist

• Working to change society's rules

• Genuinely helping others without resentment

• Sharing my opinions without fear

• Being more persuasive with my own good

ideas

• Saying "I'd rather not do that" with comfort

• Unfolding more trust in myself and others

• Deciding to lead and then moving into that

role

• Being absolutely honest and in integrity with

myself

• Assuming more responsibilities at home and

work

• One of your own choosing

• One of your own choosing

• One of your own choosing

"One resolution I have made, and try always to

keep, is this: To rise above the little things."

~John Burroughs

Let’s all work together to make 2010 the best

year yet in our lives. Let's decide that we will

remain fully conscious all year about our

dreams and resolutions. Let's stay on track with

them. I promise that once a month, I'll remind

you to review your resolutions and see where

you've gotten to with them to help you stay on

track. And here's an idea you can do right now

to see just how far you get toward your own Be

the Change goals: imagine that it is December,

2010. Take a few moments and write a short

paragraph about your accomplishments this

year. It would be fun to compare what you

actually accomplish with this paragraph.

Good luck! Bon voyage! Happy New Year!

"New Year's Eve is like every other night; there is

no pause in the march of the universe, no breathless

moment of silence among created things that the

passage of another twelve months may be noted;

and yet no man has quite the same thoughts this

evening that come with the coming of darkness on

other nights."

Becoming a Beacon of

Light

Page 63: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

All humans are beings of energy, vibrating at

unique and beautiful frequencies. As such, each

of us possesses the ability to affect the world in

a positive way, simply by using focused

meditation to connect with our own

environments, our fellow humans, and the

Earth. Because it is intention that creates the

connection, we all have the potential to act as

and to create beacons of light - centers of

positive, healing energy that radiates outward,

dispelling negativity and spreading joy and well-

being. It is more than choosing to maintain a

positive attitude.

Rather, becoming a beacon of light means

embodying qualities of energy that can open up

the potential of others and becoming a center

of positive change by meditating outward.

The process begins by creating

environments that are supportive and

energizing, but also a sanctuary where

those who enter your space can find

renewal. That is the seed. To make it

blossom, sit in a quiet place and begin

breathing deeply, focusing on achieving a

clear and calm state of mind. Center

yourself and visualize a blanket of warm,

positive energy flowing over your hands.

When you can perceive the energy

shifting and having an effect on the air

around you, direct the energy into your

body. Finally, release it and let it spiral

outward, first into your home, then

further into the yard or surrounding

homes, then over your entire

neighborhood, and through your city, state, and

country. Finally, let the gentle vortex of perfect

light and perfect love that you have created

settle over the entire world. As you send out

your loving thoughts, realize that you are the

center and the source of the beacon.

When you've spread your gift of positive energy

as far as it will travel, return your focus to the

place from which it originated and take a

moment to observe your own feelings. As you

take one last deep breath, reflect upon the fact

that in brightening your own soul, you have

played a positive role in all peoples' spiritual

evolution and in blessing your own home; you

have also blessed the Earth.

IN THE MYSTICAL REALM OF THE BLACK SWANS

by

The Psychic Twins, Terry and Linda Jamison

Many people have urged us over the years to have a

respected mathematician calculate the statistical

probability of our having been the only people to

predict the 9/11 events on tape. After much

searching, we found statistician Adrian Gilbert, who

kindly volunteered to assist us with our goal. He told

us that our 9/11 prediction (which we made on Art

Bell’s Coast to Coast radio show on November 2,

1999) is in fact known as a “Black Swan Event.”

Nassim Taleb, author of bestselling book The Black

Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable, has

referred to difficult to predict events as “Black

Swans,” which are unexpected events that have

enormous consequences. Most people expect swans

to be white because that’s what their life experience

tells them - a black swan by definition is a surprise.

The belief was destroyed when a black swan was

discovered in Western Australia during the 18th

century. A Black Swan is an extreme outlier event

that lies beyond the realm of normal expectations.

The probability of a Black Swan Event occurring is

essentially zero and as such is not predictable by

statistical approaches.

Taleb says, “What we call here a Black Swan is an

event with the following three attributes. First, it is an

outlier, as it lies outside the realm of regular

expectations, because nothing in the past can

convincingly point to its possibility. Second, it carries

an extreme impact. Third, in spite of its outlier status,

human nature makes us concoct explanations for its

occurrence after the fact, making it explainable and

predictable. I stop and summarize the triplet: rarity,

extreme impact, and retrospective predictability.”

Traditional risk assessment, like that used by

insurers, gauges the probability and likely cost of an

event by assessing historical data. Insurers know

from experience, for example, that an 18-year-old

“The Jamison Twins, in predicting the 9/11 terrorist attacks on tape, have

managed to predict a highly improbable event that would have a statistical

probability of almost zero.”

~ Adrian Gilbert, Ph.D in statistical

sociology

Page 66: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

driver is more likely to have a serious accident than a

40-year-old, so the teenager's premium is higher. But

a number of factors make this type of calculation less

reliable in assessing the kinds of catastrophic events

that have struck in recent years. Terrorist attacks on

the scale of 9/11 are too rare to establish a statistical

probability.

Events considered by many to be Black Swan Events

include:

Black Monday

9/11

World War 1

The personal computer

X rays

According to Gilbert, the occurrence of a zero-

probability event is incomprehensible. This means it

is virtually impossible based on statistical evidence.

While some skeptics may insist that our 9/11

prediction can be explained, the findings of Taleb

indicate that this horrible event simply could not have

been foreseen by ordinary predictors. We extend our

sincere thanks to Adrian Gilbert for his research

findings in this area.

As pioneers in what theoretical physicist Michio

Kaku calls “physics of the impossible,” the two of us

will continue to operate at the extreme outer edge of

what is statistically possible, in the realm of the

Black Swans.

NOTE: Adrian Gilbert has a Ph.D in statistical

sociology and has been working in the finance sector

for 10 years developing statistical models to predict

various types of risk.

Looking Back at What I've Learned

I’ve learned that age is an issue of mind over

matter. I don't mind, so it doesn't matter

because I think of myself as ‘youthful

maturity.’ I own every moment of every year

of it. Do you?

I‘ve learned that whether you are convinced

that you can do something, or you are

convinced that you can't, you are always right

because you are 100% in charge. I always

choose “Yes, I can.” What do you choose?

I‘ve learned that people may forget what you

said, people will surely forget what you did,

but people will never relinquish how you

made them feel, bad or good. I try my best to

make them feel good. I hope I have

succeeded so far with you. How do you want

to make people feel?

I‘ve learned that when we fear less, we can

hope more; If we eat less, we will chew more;

If we whine less, we will breathe more; and if

we talk less, our words will say more; and

lastly, if we love more, then all good things

will eventually be ours. I always choose to

Hope More, Say More, Breathe More, and

Love More. What do you choose?

I‘ve learned that we arrive at love not by

seeing or embracing a perfect person, but by

learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

I know it is hard, but it is worth giving it a

chance. I am working on it, and I love it. What

about you?

I’ve learned that arguing with a fool proves

there are two fools! I always choose a smile

instead. Can you learn to smile when

By Maria Khalife

Page 68: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

I’ve learned that arguing with a fool proves

there are two fools! I always choose a smile

instead. Can you learn to smile when someone

treats you foolishly?

I’ve learned that what we perceive depends

mainly on what we are looking for. I always

choose to see the best in everyone. Try it, and

you will be amazed at the good that will appear

in your life.

I’ve learned that you and I do not see things as

they are. We see things as we are. It is always a

reflection of who we are. Our attitude is the

lens through which we look. What are you

seeing in your life?

I’ve learned that how we do one thing is how

we do everything. I do the best I can in

everything, with everything, and for everything.

It is my unique formula. Try it. Explore your

inner self and see where you can do your best.

I’ve learned that your problems cannot be

resolved from the level on which they first

manifested. So I stop looking at what happened

yesterday – which was the level where I created

the problem. I bring it to the present moment,

and think about it. It’s a relief to know that

today, I can create something new because I am

not yesterday’s “me.” So can you.

I’ve learned that love is like a lost article. Love

will show up when and where you least expect

it because love is one of our underlying

substances. To find it though, you should expect

it to show up. Is there love in your

expectations?

I’ve learned to make everything as simple as

possible. Complicated, detail dense or intense

Doesn’t serve me well. Tiny steps always get the

job done. Do you take continuous, small steps?

Every step is stately.

I’ve learned that there isn’t anything as useless

as doing efficiently something which should not

be done at all. What a waste of time and

energy. What do you need to stop doing?

I’ve learned that stress is an alarm clock that

rings to let you know you’ve attached to

something not good or true for you. I stop and

question myself: “What is not good or true

here? I am feeling stressed.” Do you?

I’ve learned that we say to other people the

words that we most need to hear ourselves, so I

always try to choose good words. Are you

listening to your words?

I’ve learned that ultimately I am, right now, all

that I can be. If there was more for me to be

right now, I’d already be that. I have stopped

worrying about tomorrow. I hope you will, too.

I’ve learned that we suffer only until we begin

to realize that we can’t know everything. Life is

a process and we are in the process. You will

always continue to learn more.

I’ve learned that we never make a decision

when the time is right; the decision makes itself

for you, and you learn to weave it into your life.

No sense fretting over it, right?

I’ve learned that until we know that death is

similar to life, we live in fear. Death is like

getting on an airplane, falling asleep, and

waking in another country. Nothing to fear.

Page 69: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

I’ve learned that seeking love keeps you from

the awareness that you already have it - that

you are it. Yes, you, too. You are Love Itself.

I’ve learned that no one can hurt me – that is

my job. I am the one who allows the hurt in –

or, I can decide not to let it in. It’s always my

choice….and yours.

I’ve learned that reality is always kinder than

the stories we tell about it. When we learn to

look for life’s lessons in our stories, the painful

issues take a back seat; but if we don’t search

for reality’s lessons, the pain takes a front seat.

Where do you want to sit?

I’ve learned that we do only three things in life:

we sit, we stand, and we lie horizontal. The rest

is just a story. From where you sit, what’s your

story?

I’ve learned that everyone in the world loves

me. I just don’t expect them to realize it yet. If I

stand still in a crowd and think “Everyone here

loves me,” it just radiates forth and returns in….

well, why don’t you try it at your next gathering

and discover the secret?

I’ve learned that there are no physical problems

- only mental ones. When you solve the mental

ones, the ones that appear to be physical

change auto magically. Working in the mental

realm is much easier, too.

I’ve learned that if I think you are my problem, I

am insane. And this is the height of intelligence,

right?

January We Begin Anew

For many of us January marks a new beginning. This

is a time of reflection as we look back on the past

year and make resolutions for the new. With a

countdown-clock and a sip of champagne we lift our

voices pledging to be better this year, to exercise, to

eat right, to spend more quality time with those we

love….The clock strikes twelve and we turn from the

old, with hopeful hearts each of us desiring to shrug

off our bad habits and transform ourselves, knowing

this is a time to forgive, a time to abandon the things

that did not serve us, to make peace with the

troubles of the past and to look ahead with hope,

each of us aspiring to be better people as we pay

homage to the cycle of life.

So why do we hesitate in the cold morning light?

Don't allow your old habits to slip back in. It is the

small changes we make today that fosters big

changes later on. Look in the mirror and decide what

is important to you. Write your goals for this year

down and post it where you can see it every day.

Take time to sort out what is important to you and

put your energy toward its realization.

A healthy lifestyle which includes moderation in all

things: eating right, daily exercise and a normal

sleeping pattern is key to balanced energy. One trick

to healthy living is making small changes. Make wise

choices (skip the chips choose raw fruit or

vegetables) Eating healthy snacks will make you feel

awake and alive. Free yourself from a bad diet in

simple steps: add fruit to your cereal, have an extra

glass of water instead of soda, limit your alcohol and

caffeine consumption. It is possible to ease into a

healthier lifestyle just by making conscious choices

The practice of yoga and daily meditation are also

wonderful vehicles to a healthier life. Our bodies are

so much more than meets the eye. Of course we are

flesh, blood and bone but we are also Spirit and

within our body lies and an amazing network of

energy centers or chakras.

This energy system ensures that our organs, cells,

and tissues stay strong and healthy. When there is a

block in an energy pathway, the organ system that

the pathway corresponds with will also become

blocked. Through meditation we can move energy

through the body and heal it. Not only can we

eliminate stress but we can heal and balance our

own bodies by drawing energy to the energy center

or chakra point that is not functioning to its fullest

potential.

The practice of meditation is a large part of psychic

development and spiritual work. Meditation is the

practice of focusing and quieting your mind to

achieve a heightened awareness of your inner spirit

and release your inner wisdom whereby you are

attempting to merge the desires of the subconscious

mind with the desires of the conscious mind in order

to work toward a common goal.

When you shift your attention to each breath slowly

and deeply drawn and released, you shift your mind

into a quiet mode, releasing your mind clutter and

silencing the “monkey mind" that constantly tries to

invade our thoughts and emotions. The result of this

shift is peace, serenity, calmness and inspiration.

Through Meditation we are able to recalibrate our

energy and connect with the divine.

Only you can make your life better. You can make

your life into the life you desire. Indeed You have the

power to change the world.

Tending To Garden Within

To live life fully with joy requires one to know

self without the filters of societal conditioning,

familial conditioning and one’s ego. These filters

block our vision and truth of who we really are

and how we are connected to the Universe.

These filters also block us from hearing our

own inner guidance and voice.

To know self requires being able to recognize and

delve into layers of beliefs, frozen emotions, past

traumas, and self-limiting thoughts that block seeing

who we really are. These layers manifest

themselves as weeds and rocks in our “garden

within”.

Simply said, our garden within is the truth and

understanding of who we are and the potential that

we can reach. Tending to our garden within is the

process of consciously and continuously being in

touch with ourselves.

Due to years of living, our garden within may be filled

with weeds, rocks and boulders that do not serve

any useful purpose. Weeds in our garden within can

be fear, anger, despair, self-doubt, or self-

importance. Rocks and boulders in our garden may

be our society and family conditioning, trauma, self-

pity and beliefs. Rocks in our garden within are also

old patterns that keep repeating themselves and

harm us emotionally, mentally, physically and

spiritually.

In order to effectively tend to our garden within,

requires one to take several steps to re-gain being

in touch with self.

The first step is to get help to recognize,

acknowledge, and remove major burdensome rocks

in our garden within that deprive our soul and body

of major nourishment. It is important that we deal

with the most burdensome rocks first since they

have direct impact on the growth of weeds in our

garden.

Next step is to find those gardening tools that will

enable us to connect with our true self. Such tools

can be meditation, prayers, mirroring, being in

nature, intuitive work, dream analysis, or artistic

expression. One needs to be open to utilizing any

gardening tool, even though that particular tool may

not have been of interest in the past.

The final step is removal and maintenance of the

weeds in our garden within. The process of

removing weeds and maintaining a weed free

garden within is a continuous process which will

take less time as we become more familiar with it.

We need to be aware, patient, and kind with

ourselves during this life long process.

By Shervin Hojat

Page 72: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

During our personal self-discovery, we sometimes

regress back to our old habits and self-talk. The key

is to be able to recognize the patterns and forms of

weeds in our garden within and take care of them

gently and consciously. The following poem is based

on several experiences that I had when I regressed

back to my old habits and patterns in response to

sometimes trivial, but upsetting challenges in my

daily life.

You are hooked again.

You took the bait!

You are hooked again without realizing how easily

you took the bait.

The bait is your distraction from truth.

The bait has hooked your total attention by voices

inside your head:

Poor me.

I will always be alone.

It should not be like this.

I am not lovable.

Tomorrow I will be miserable.

Nobody has problems like mine.

Nothing works for me.

The hook is in your heart.

You are not balanced.

You are agitated.

You do not feel connected.

You question your worth.

You feel iserable and do not smile.

You are now focused on hook’s wound.

You are no longer looking at the big picture.

You are in massive turmoil.

Take out the hook gently.

Smile

despite what you perceive are going through.

Look at how many things are working for you

not against you.

Question your limiting assumptions.

Take a deep breath.

Get connected again.

The story that was the bait will no longer be

attractive.

The story that was the bait will not keep you in a

cramped cell.

The wound will magically heal fast.

Your attention will be hooked again and again,

but each time you will remove the hook faster.

Smiling Monk

I sat under a tree for shade in the hot sun at noon day when i was greeted by a monk walking to temple, Hello i said and he waved to me with a beautiful smile and continued on his way. I thought to myself what a kind man with a genuine smile and pleasant spirit, i arose and thought to myself i shall also go to the temple and maybe i can be happy as this monk was. Walking into the temple i was greeted by chants and prostrations and incense filled the air.

So calm was the spirit in this holy place. I placed incense in alter and prostrated before Buddha and i felt my heart flutter, sitting up i looked into eyes of the Buddha and saw the same smile i had earlier saw on the monks face as i sat under the tree.

Carl is sitting on the outdoor lawn of his company’s

luxurious campus when the grapevine delivers the

news: We’ve been acquired. Carl is stunned. The

grapevine spokesperson fills in the details: “The CEOs

office just announced that we will be closing

temporarily, then reopening and downsizing.” Carl’s

imagination immediately starts constructing the worst-

case scenario: I’m going to get laid off. I’ll never find

a position this great again. I’ll lose my home. Caught

in the cyclone of fearful thoughts Carl slumps and

watches (in his mind) his career and his future sink

like the Titanic. He stands up and walks around the

park like a man who is completely lost and reaches

for his Blackberry. He gives it a voice command:

Steve Sisgold.

I listened to his report and reminded him, “This

is an opportunity to practice Whole Body

Consciousness and stop your fictional thoughts

in their tracks. You just lost faith for a moment”

Carl like so many of us got caught up in a

behavior, which is rampant in our culture today;

what I call the Fact VS. Fiction Syndrome. 2009

was a year where mass consciousness focused

much attention on fear around the necessary

restructuring of our global economy, and an

uncertain future…and faith went out the

window.

Let’s have 2010 be a time where we focus on

what is the most spiritual, life-fulfilling course of

action we can choose to follow, no matter what

is happening outside of us.

It takes discipline of our mind through constant

focus on faith, gratitude and trust, to rise above

this collective fear.

The power of choice is always available to all of

us, even in moments that seem the darkest and

most challenging. We all have what it takes to

change our consciousness and behaviors at will,

and it starts with allowing our spirit to flow into

our bodies instead of blocking it with fear

thoughts. The more I breathe in consciously,

meditate and pray, I notice how that tempers

the wind and wave that batter me around in the

sea of the mind.

*

The entire universe we live in breathes and

expands. All systems, stars and planets, do this

too. So when we merge with that rhythm by

breathing and welcoming spirit in, we unwind

the veils of illusions, traumas and unexpressed

emotions we hold in our bodies that make us

forget our faith and trust. We all always have

free will to transmit and manifest what is

deeply already inside of us; our innate-God,

light, wisdom intelligence and reclaim our

natural state of vibrant, light, magnetic, energy.

Designing 2010 Consciously

I offer the following tips to reduce any stress you

may have about entering a new cycle and to be used

as a daily ritual to access all of your intelligence in

every step you take when visioning, taking action

and consciously embodying 2010 with more faith

and trust.

1. BREATHE - Tune in

Take five slow, deep whole body belly breaths,

inhaling in through your nose and exhaling out of

your mouth. Fill your belly like a big beach ball, then

relax your jaw and throat, and sigh aloud on the

exhalation. Touch your belly with your hands. Do

three more full deep breaths and visualize God’s

energy traveling throughout your entire body.

2. MOVE

Put your heels flat on your bed or the floor and bring

your knees up, sliding your heels closer to your

bottom. As you breathe, tilt your pelvis forward and

arch your back on the in-breath, then move your

pelvis back down as your back flattens out on the

exhale. Do this five times. Notice your spine waking

up and your body filling up with spiritual light

energy.

3. APPRECIATE

Say a blessing or express appreciation for the

spiritual dimension of your existence. This could be a

prayer or a simple expression of gratitude such as

such, “I am thankful to be entering a new year.”

Take five more whole body breaths and anchor this

grateful attitude in your body and mind

4. SCAN & DECLARE

Remember to continue breathing fully, scanning

your body for any of the following:

• Is your breath smooth or choppy?

• Is there any place that feels pain, tightness or

special sensation?

• Are you feeling any emotions, light or strong?

Once you are in contact with your body sensations

and feelings, declare them out loud, or silently. You

can do all of them at once or one at a time. For

example, “I am noticing that my breath is short, my

jaw is clenched and I am worried,” or, “I feel tingly

and excited about 2010.”

I like to move uncomfortable feelings by shaking my

whole body; this can be done either standing or lying

down. Breathe in and out through your nose or

mouth and shake your body, then rest.

4. PRAISE – Tune into your heart

Breathe love in and out. Give yourself love

affirmations like “I love that my soul is choosing to

enter a new year” Give your self even more love

with touch and massage.

5. REMEMBER – Connect with your life purpose

continue breathing consciously and remember your

life purpose. Say it to yourself a couple of times and

focus on gratefulness for being here on the planet in

the year 2010. For example: My life purpose is to

help children learn and I am grateful to be alive

NOW to do that”

6. VISUALIZE – Tune in to your spiritual journey for

2010.

Visualize and see your self moving through the year

fully connected to your faith and trust in God. Set an

intention for how you want your year to unfold,

breathing calmly in and out through your nose. See

your self having a miraculous, spiritually connected

year, and staying open to the mystery as it reveals

and unfolds its plan for you.

If you see just one film this holiday season (or even this year),

make it James Cameron's Avatar. It's a powerful, inspiring film

that demonstrates movie-making at its best, and it delivers a

crucial message for our time: That all living beings are

connected and that those who seek to exploit nature rather

than respect it will only destroy themselves.

With Avatar, Cameron has delivered a fast-paced fantasy

adventure that weaves together a stream of powerful themes

that are so important to our modern world that they extend

far beyond the world of fictional film: Issues like corporations

destroying nature for profit, the lack of respect for living

creatures, and the failed policies of "military diplomacy" that

the USA continues to pursue. The themes in Avatar reflect

the greatest challenges of our modern world, and the

message of Avatar is both deeply moving and highly relevant

to the future of human civilization.

Not many who view Avatar will understand all this, of course.

To the younger crowd, Avatar is simply a cool action-

adventure film with a compelling love story that makes it a

great date flick. But to those who've been around on this

planet a little longer, the story of Avatar is a far important

story of good versus evil, war versus peace, destruction

versus healing and isolationism versus interconnectedness.

This depth of sensitivity to life is rare to find in any film these

days, much less a blockbuster feature film, but that's what

makes Avatar so truly remarkable: It speaks to viewers at

many different levels, intertwining the core themes of human

mythology in an extremely tight, fast-paced screenplay that

doesn't let a second go to waste.

The world depicted in Avatar also demonstrates the

healing power of Mother Nature as the key character

Jack Sully has his consciousness transferred from his

broken human body to his much stronger alien body

through the help of a healing tree (into which all the

natives are neurologically plugged in, too).

The concept of Gaia is also unleashed in the film,

although it's never referred to as Gaia. At one point in

the film when all hope seems lost for the natives, Jack

Sully prays to Gaia to help save them, at which point

the female character Na'vi says, "[Mother Nautre]

doesn't take sides. She only maintains the balance of

life." This demonstrates a much deeper understanding

of the role of nature than most modern humans

grasp.

James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, not to be confused with M. Night

Shyamalan’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ has been off the radar for

some time now. Few who have seen footage of the film praise it’s

innovation and revolutionary visual effects.

Relationships

The interconnectiveness among all human beings and, consequently,

the relationship among all beings is the focus of this section. The

dynamics of the web of connections we make is one of the most

prominent aspects of human existence: how we interlace with each

other’s existence in a meaningful way.

Page 86: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times January 2010 Edition

Feel It!!! Don’t Intellectualize It

I have been wonderfully engrossed in some fascinating

conversations lately with people who are at varying

stages of their relationship journey. Some are happy and

content, what a joy! Some are "bumbling along" and

some are in the middle of a tricky separation and having

to explain what is going on to their partner and loved

ones.

For those who are experiencing the pain of troubles in

love, the explaining part is quite a challenge when you

think about it, because it is feelings that we are trying to

convey but on a platform of intellectuality, tinged with

intended rationality so that others can understand what

is happening. A difficult predicament! How do you feel

with words? Is love a feeling or a word we use to describe

it? And if is a word then what is the feeling that comes so

powerfully with it? Chicken and egg.

I am observing a client at the moment that is breaking up

from a very long term marriage on the grounds that "that

certain feeling" they once used to feel for their partner is

no longer there. And when the injured party is looking for

a rational explanation, how do you explain what is

essentially a feeling that once was there and now is not?

But feeling it is the answer to your life's happiness.

Although traditionally, we believe men to be the ones

who find it hard to express feelings, we are all human

beings with the same physiological capacity to feel and

thankfully things are changing rapidly! Gender

stereotypes and history dictate that women are generally

the nurturer/carers with a built-in ability to really

understand emotions, but in a partnership relating

feelings is a critical part of good communication. When

you explain how you feel, it is owned by you and you

can't be blamed or indeed blame, for just simply feeling a

certain way.

Feelings are experienced on a physical level first, and

then our brain interprets the sensations into words. We

are prone to react quickly when we feel intense emotions

but how often do we really listen to our feeling centre,

some may call it the heart centre and let it be our guide

through life? Would we be much happier if we did? I

know I am and try to do more and more in daily life as

well as in relationship with others.

I invite you to ponder this...your love relationship is your

greatest teacher and your greatest potential for growth,

but many times because of the depth of feelings that our

partners bring out in us at times, we do not want to go

there because it can be mighty uncomfortable.

Reflect for a moment on a current or previous

relationship and ask yourself, have the emotional/feeling

challenges helped me to really know myself better? I look

back at my complex and varied portfolio and say a huge

YES to that one! Nothing challenges you more than the

complexity of love and the heart with a partner and it is

from here that we always know the truth.

THE VIRTUE OF HUMILITY

Humility is not self-deprecation,

impoverishment, shame or

humiliation. It is not codependence,

inferiority or passivity. Neither is it

lack of personal caretaking or

responsibility. Humility is recognizing

that we see a tiny fraction of

ourselves and life, and that everything

is much greater than our physical

senses and human awareness

indicate. Humility believes there is a

deeper dimension in spirit, and that

higher consciousness can lead us

there.

Humility means that we remain

curious, open-minded and teachable,

and thus in a process of continual

growth. As divine creations, we have a

responsibility to honor, respect and

care for ourselves, each other and our planet.

We all have a profound effect on one another

and we choose whether it will be positive or

negative. As the earth, its elements and

atmosphere enable plants, animals and humans

to survive, humility engages us to protect and

nurture our precious resources and each other.

Harmful actions in the world can remind us how

important it is for us to share peaceful, healing,

loving energy in all that we do.

Humility recognizes the interdependent family

of humanity. We understand that free will was

given to us as a sacred right by our Creator. We

see the contrast between our human and

spiritual selves and the duality on this planet.

We appreciate the opportunities to learn from

the rich diversity of life and the contrast of

opposites. Our experiences with giving and

receiving, ignorance and knowledge, war and

peace, love and hate, freedom and oppression,

joy and sadness, beginnings and endings, allow

us to mature. Recognizing the consequences of

our thoughts and actions as individuals and as a

collective society helps us to be more careful,

By Mary Cook

Page 89: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

Om-Times Magazine January 2010 edition

wise and considerate of a much larger

perspective in life.

Because flaws and faults are an integral part of

us, we focus on observing, listening,

understanding and forgiving rather than judging

and condemning. Humility means that we do

not take more than we need, and we willingly

share what we have. We do not seek to control

people nor our God, for that entraps us in

mental, emotional, physical and spiritual

sickness, and removes our ability to fulfill our

soul’s purpose. We rightly understand that our

human will is far from higher consciousness. We

accept disappointments, loss and tragedies for

the lessons that we learn from them. Humility is

reinforced with failed expectations. They help

us discern between our will and divine will.

Trust and faith can be strengthened as we allow

the temporary feelings of disappointment to

abate.

I once heard that the purpose of bowing is to

place the heart higher than the head. Our minds

perform perpetual exercises in associating the

present with the past. Thus dominant thoughts

and habits commonly determine our present

condition. This leads to repetition and

stagnation rather than growth. Our deepest

imprints occur in early childhood when we are

helpless, needy, and hungry for information to

understand the world. Later in life, experiences

that stimulate these associations automatically

bring childhood feelings and thoughts to our

attention. Thus rather than using our adult

knowledge and resources and our spiritual

beliefs and practices, we tend to react from a

childhood dependent state, which is typically

defensive or offensive. Humility reminds us that

our goal is to positively change ourselves, and

offer assistance when it is appreciated and

beneficial. Humility asks what positive energy

we have to give to the present.

Humility means that we place a higher priority

on our heart and soul experience, and pay less

attention to our mental chatter. Our spiritual

perspective tells us that we are complete and

we have all that we need. Suspending focus on

our mind, allows each present moment to

unfold without past or future referencing. This

leads to a wellspring of fresh energy and joy

which is independent of external circumstances.

When we are struck with awe and wonder,

when we are witnessing blessings and miracles,

our mind is still and quiet. There is no thinker

and no thought, only pure experience in the

moment. This is a humble and ecstatic merging

into the oneness of life.

Humility means that we conduct ourselves with

honor and integrity. We witness and accept the

whole of life, to learn what positive

contributions we might offer. We pay equal

attention to information from our physical

senses and information from deeper awareness.

We understand that although we are a tiny part

of the world, our presence has an important

ripple effect on the planet. Humility informs us

that we are here to become enlightened, and

that this is a process of perpetual discovery.

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” ~ Nelson Mandela

Here’s a cocktail fact for you- did you know that social media has taken over pornography as the #1 activity on the Internet? You probably participate in at least one type of social media, a website that is based on participation and user-generated content in some form personally and/or professionally.

So now let us count the ways you may be engaged in the social media revolution- social networking websites like Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace and Twitter; social bookmarking and news sites; Nings like Healing Humanity Network that are centered on user interactions; and other myriad technologies and practices that we use to connect with each other and share opinions, insights, experiences and perspectives with each other.

With all of this incredibly accessible information and ability to interact, have you noticed how the borders between our public and private lives are blurring? Do you ever wonder whether or not to post a cute family photo to share with your network of family or friends? How about to expressing your real opinion about someone or something? These are good questions to stop and ask yourself before posting anything. The best rule to follow is: Anything you post online is publicly available information that anyone in the world can access.

State and federal legislators are reacting to this explosion of privacy issues and online privacy has become a higher priority on Capitol Hill. The first lawsuits have been tried both in Pennsylvania and California for invasion of privacy for online issues, and both

cases were lost. There is a plethora of bills nationwide addressing age verification, creating false profiles and required warnings that what you post may be used by anyone, anywhere. It’s definitely a privacy new frontier out there on the Internet and the law is just arriving in our global town.

Free speech is being tested in this cyber-jungle. People have the right to commercial use of their own images for publicity (think pictures on Facebook). Defamation of character (false statements about a person presented as facts intended to harm that person) is still illegal- and it travels like wildfire on our instantaneous global networks like Twitter. While defamation is a great big no-no, you do have the right to state your opinions.

Business is adopting social media at a wild pace, particularly relationship-oriented industries like real estate. Unfortunately, home listings are getting spread around everywhere, which is not really a good thing, and there are few social media policies in place yet to protect both business and individual rights.

It is both a business and personal imperative to stay aware and alert about what you post online. Remember, once you post it you can’t ever take it back, even if you crossed your fingers behind your back when you did.

Sugar:

Friend or FOE By DEZENGO

I know, I know tis the season to overindulge and

sugar seems to always be at the top of the list.

AS with all aspects of life,

balance is the key. However, I

just wanted to take a moment to

discuss some of the effects that

sugar has on the body. So,

although I realize it will probably

NOT be takien off the market

anytime soon, if we begin

detoxing the body gradually

from the short and long term

effects of this product, we have

time to PREVENT not Treat!

This is an excerpt from just one

site. There are many others who

are beginning to conclude

(despite that deceptively yummy

addictive flavor) that sugar actually does the

most to harm the body. It takes years, but the

results are the same. Thousands of dollars spent

eating the sugar and then fighting the diseases

that the sugar contributes to or creates.

The list of health problems associated with

sugar is quite lengthy and growing by the year.

Some generalities include the following:

* depression

* mood swings

* irritability

* hyperactivity

* anxiety

* panic attacks

* mineral deficiencies

* adrenal gland depletion

* hypoglycemia

* Candida overgrowth

* increased cholesterol levels

* chronic fatigue

Then we get into the

more serious diseases and

disorders, as cancers,

diabetes, obesity, and

heart disease. Sugar, even

in small amounts,

suppresses the immune

system making it easier to

succumb to the various

ailments. It should be

noted though that there is

a very significant

difference between white

refined sugar and

naturally occurring

complex sugars found in

whole foods.

Fat Burning Soup Recipe

2 Large Bunches Green Onions

2 Bell Peppers

2 28 oz. Cans Tomatoes (can be placed in blender)

1 Bunch Celery

1 Large Head Cabbage

1 Pkg. Lipton Onion Soup Mix

2 Bouillon Cubes (optional)

Several cloves of garlic or bottled garlic (optional)

Several Bay Leaves (optional)Cut vegetables in small

bite-size pieces.

Put all vegetables except tomatoes in pot. You can

just cover with water or add 3 ½ - 4 cups of water.

Boil fast for 10 minutes. Cut heat down and simmer

for approximately 30 minutes until veggies are

tender. Add tomatoes along with the juice. Bring to

a boil and heat thoroughly. Add soup mix and

simmer for 10 minutes. May be seasoned with salt,

pepper, parsley, curry, oregano, basil and thyme to

taste. Add extra cabbage and tomatoes if desired.

Day 1

All fruits, except bananas. Your first day will consist

of all the fruits you want except bananas.

Cantaloupes and watermelons are lower in calories

than most fruits. Eat your soup and fruits the first

day. For drinks: unsweetened tea, cranberry juice or

water.

Day 2

All vegetables. Eat until you are stuffed with all the

fresh raw or cooked vegetables of your choice. Try

to eat leafy green veggies and stay away from dry

beans, peas and corn. Eat all the veggies you want

along with your soup. At dinner time you may

reward yourself with a baked potato and butter. Eat

all the soup you want this day also, but do not eat

any fruit.

Day 3

Mix day one and two. Eat all the soup, fruits and

veggies you want. You cannot have bananas or a

baked potato this day. If you have eaten for the 3

days as above and have not cheated; you will find

you have lost 5-7 pounds.

Day 4

Bananas and skim milk. Eat as many as 8 bananas

and drink as many glasses of skim milk as you can

on this day along with your soup. Bananas are high

in calories and carbohydrates and so is milk, but on

this particular day of your diet you body will need the

potassium and the carbohydrates, protein and

calcium to lesson the craving for sweets.

Day 5

Beef and tomatoes. You many have 10 to 20

ounces of beef and a can or tomatoes or as many

as 6 fresh tomatoes on this day. Try to drink at

least 6-8 glasses of water this day to wash out the

uric acid in your body. Eat your soup at least once

this day.

Suggestion: You can make hamburger patties –

1lb chopped Sirloin (lean)

1 small chopped onion

1 egg

2 tbsp. Rotelle Tomatoes

2 tbsp. Bran Salt/Pepper if desired

Broil until done. Then refrigerate in air-tight

container.

Day 6

Beef and veggies. Eat to your heart’s content of

beef, and veggies this day. You can even have 2 or 3

steaks if you like with leafy green veggies. NO

BAKED POTATO. Be sure to eat soup at least once

this day.

Day 7

Brown Rice, unsweetened fruit juices and veggies.

Again, stuff, stuff, stuff and stuff yourself more. Be

sure to eat soup at least once today. (Rice can be

mixed in with soup for variation)

At the end of the seventh day, if you have not

cheated on the above diet, you will find that you have

lost 10-17 pounds. If you have lost more than 15

pounds, stay off the diet for 2 days before you

resume the diet.

This 7 day eating plan may be used as often as you

like. As a matter of fact, if correctly followed, it will

clean your system of impurities and give you a

feeling of well-being as never before. In just a few

days of the process you will begin to feel lighter by

at least 10 pounds and have an abundance of

energy. Continue this plan as long as you wish and

feel the difference.

This diet is a fast burning diet and the secret is that

you will burn more calories than you take in. This

diet does not lend itself to drinking ANY alcoholic

beverages at any time become of the removal of fat

build-up in your system. Go off the diet for at least

24 hours before intake of any alcohol.

Because everyone’s digestive system is different,

this diet will affect everyone differently. After day 3

you will have more energy than when you began if

you do not cheat. After being on the diet for several

days, you will find your bowel movement has

changed. Eat a cup of bran (fiber). Although you can

have black coffee with this diet, you may find that

you don’t need caffeine after the third day.

The Miracle Foundation was founded in the year 2000

on Mother's Day by Caroline Boudreaux. Unable to

bear the poverty she had witnessed among Indian

orphans, she returned from a trip to India and started The Miracle Foundation.

The Crisis There are 25 million orphaned children in India and the

number is growing. It is estimated that one million

orphans enter the system each year. All of these

children share a similar story. A life of poverty, with no

family to care for them, nurture them or nourish them.

Many live on the streets and the "lucky" ones live in

overcrowded, under-funded orphanages. The state of

orphaned children in India is heart-breaking.

An estimated 31% of the babies surviving past

the age of one will die before the age of five

Approximately 18% of children under five in

India are moderately to severely underweight

The rapid spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic

has resulted in India possessing the largest

number of AIDS orphans in the world

UNICEF reports that 25 million orphans are

living in India—a number equivalent to the population of the entire state of Texas

Most orphans live in overcrowded, under-funded, government orphanages. The rest live on the streets.

The conditions in the orphanages in India are far below

the standards we have in the United States. Dilapidated,

well-worn, and filled to over capacity, orphanages are

no better than the conditions on the streets.

It is from these devastating conditions that The Miracle

Foundation wants to break the cycle of poverty and

birth a new miracle in the country of India. There are

many ways you can get involved with this worthy cause, click here to learn more about how you can help.

What We Do The Miracle Foundation is an organization dedicated to

empowering children to reach their full potential, one

orphan at a time. We are making a significant impact on

the lives of orphaned children in India by:

Raising the standard of living for the children

in orphanages

Reducing the number of non-orphaned children living in orphanages

The Miracle Foundation renovates existing orphanages,

builds new ones, raises money for construction and

finds sponsors for our children. Because the effort is so

focused, there is little overhead. In India, our money

goes a long way towards healthy food, tuition, better

living conditions, clothing, and medical care. Love,

affection, and hope for a bright future come from our

incredible staff, ambassadors, and sponsors. The

Miracle Foundation currently operates four Children's Homes and one home for unwed mothers.

Our Accomplishments In the past six years that The Miracle Foundation has

been renovating and building new orphanages for the

children of India, we have significantly impacted the

lives of hundreds of children. Our standards and

practices for operation in our network have:

Increased the percentage of school-aged

orphans attending school from 2% or 100%

Increased significantly the number of

bathrooms in each facility from 1 per 100 to 1

per 10-20 children

Increased caretakers from 1 per 30 to 1 per 10

children

Renovated sleeping arrangements from wooden beds to comfortable bunk beds.

The Miracle Foundation's homes

are located in the states of

Jharkhand and Orissa. Tribal people

make up about 25% of the

population in each state and their

children make up a sizable portion

of the children in The Miracle

Foundation's homes.

Child Sponsorship

In addition to caring, educating and loving these

children, we also provide a monthly giving program

that connect sponsors directly with an indvidual

child. Sponsors can choose an child at one of our

orphanages and begin the intimate process of

exchanging letters, receiving updates and becoming a

global parent.

Start now by choosing an orphan to

sponsor.

Lunch & Learn Program

Many villagers in India are so poverty-

stricken that they are unable to provide

for their own children and often

abandon them at orphanages hoping

their children will have a better

future. Our Lunch & Learn program

supports keeping these families together

by giving them an option. Children

enrolled in the program can attend local

government schools where The Miracle

Foundation provides them with school

uniforms, books, two meals a day, and

after school daycare at the orphanage.

Transparency

One of the goals of our organization is

to be as open and honest about the work

that we do. We understand the stigma

surrounding giving to organizations that

do work overseas. The beautiful part

about The Miracle Foundation is that

you can actually visit the child you

sponsor and see first hand the work that

we're doing. You can do all of this

through our Voluntourism program.

January 2010

Have we been here before? This ecstatic blissful

space of heaven you are now experiencing on earth?

Have you ever felt such peace in your life on earth?

Have you wondered where you are? You are indeed

my loves, on planet earth, as she is turning, loving

you, and supporting you. We ask you to honor her as

you go about your daily rituals and practices. Do not

forget the mother who is supporting this endeavor;

the soil, the trees, the birds, the air, the wind, sun,

moon, flowers, animals, oceans, rivers, lakes,

streams. This earth which supports your soul's

growth, your mission, all that you have come to do in

service: Make offerings to her please. Plant gardens,

trees, and take slow walks outside.

What a beautiful moment of surrender, submission,

and stillness in the midst of the breakdown of an

entire system in humanity. We watch your stress

levels rise and fall with the collective

consciousnesses aches and pains. We watch your

over-identification with all that is happening, and

We lovingly remind you to acknowledge your

sensitive bodies and hearts, by exercising, eating

light, live foods, drinking crystal clean water, and

getting enough time in nature. Your practices of

balancing through pranayama, yoga, meditation,

singing and dancing are needed during these times to

remain in your center.

You are preparing for the holidays, winter time, and a

time of respite, relief, and quietude. This is a time of

inner working. Allow time and space for this work to

occur. Honor the body's messages to rest, write, read,

and take long baths, whatever you feel called to do,

trust your body's messages to you.

As we close, we wish to offer you once again our

love and gratitude for your service here on the

planet. We realize at times you feel as though it is

not much; however from our perspective, we truly

see and feel the difference you make each day, with

each loving interaction you have, and we thank you.

You are greatly loved and blessed by God, and we

are forever your servants, do call on us for support,

guidance, love, healing, and protection. It is all given

freely, we only request that you ask for what you

want and need and we are there.

As we begin the journey into a new year and a new

decade, (Can you believe it? Wasn’t it just 2000

yesterday?) the energies and directions of the month of

January evolve around taking this time to feel, experience

and understand that we are living in some very exciting

and powerful times. On the deepest level of

consciousness, radical spiritual transformation is taking

place and it is happening within each of us who are

paying attention to and participating in this

transformation.

This month really is a continuation of the spiritual

processes we have been going through over the last few

years, but specifically for January, it is the time to take a

good look and see what you need

to let go , what or who you need

to release from your world, so

you can build your new world in

its place. For January, it is enough

if you will just identify them, write

them down and maybe keep track

of them…adding and deleting like

a “To Do” list during this month.

As Paularyo says through my

friend Connie Russert

m) : “Allow It To Be Easy.” If you

feel discouraged or the negative

mind just will not let go, release

all that mental busy-ness by fixing

your attention on a beautiful

image or just go outside and look

at the trees, the clouds, the plants, the flowers, connect

with nature. Feel grateful for this beautiful Planet, hold

your attention there until the mental struggle abates and

you find a sense of renewal.

The changes taking place begin with you and as more and

more individuals are awakened, that awakening vibration

moves into mass consciousness shifting each and all of us

along the way. This releasing or “Breaking Karmic

Patterns” is one of the most important spiritual processes

you can put in place this month, truly releasing the old

and creating the new. As we are moving into our new

lives, the old, duality, must pass away and we look this

month to see where those “old” patterns are holding us

back. The key word for this

month of January, 2010 is

RELEASE.

Let your mantra for this month

be:

I AM releasing the old so I can

build the new…And So It Is!!!

Looking at the Climate for January 2010...

Cluster and Fluster:

According to the pundits at Encarta; Cluster: a

group of galaxies or stars (or planets) that are

gravitationally interacting in space and appear

to an observer on Earth to be close together. ~

Fluster: to become nervous or agitated, or make

somebody become nervous or agitated.

Greetings fellow Pilgrims!

The year 2010 begins with a number of

conflicting energies that will be around for the

entire month of January. When properly

embraced, these influences will cause the seeker

to evolve upward to a higher state of

consciousness. When the chela resists change,

well... imagine “carpet-bombing” in a celestial

sense.

The world one inhabits is the out-picturing of

our inner thoughts, feelings and beliefs ~ and the

movement in the heavens is our invitation to

progress with the unfolding of the Universe. As

one aligns Oneself to the ebb and flow of

celestial tides, life becomes effortless. Woe unto

He who resists with impunity, for Pluto is edgy

in the early stages of its passage across the

midHaven in Capricorn.

By Chris Anderson/Onefeather

January and the year 2010 enters with a

seductive, feminine, fulling of the Moon in

Cancer, its oppositional dance with the Sun,

masculine and Earthy, in Capricorn. Mercury in

Retrograde brings a potential for

miscommunication to the boudoir so the Sage is

careful to think before speaking or acting. All

interaction with those around you should be

conducted with respect and the grace of

forgiveness. Patience with the mechanical

articles that enrich one’s life is wise, also.

We come into this time of yearly renewal with

planets in clusters, each one’s nature influenced

by another. Pluto (purgative) and Venus (our

personal Art of Living), Sol (life force) and

Mercury (communication and exchange) Rx [in

retreat] are housed in Capricorn, the sign of the

Goat... stubborn and lofty in its position at the

height of the wheel. Saturn (the Teacher)

squares the Kin of the Goat from its position in

Libra, demanding we obey Life’s rules. This is a

time for discretion and compliance. One’s pose

in existence is under scrutiny by the heavens and

doors will be opened for those who are diligent.

Rewards come with effort, but he who runs

counter to the union of humanity will be forced

to do penance. Pay that parking ticket or deal

with the tire-boot!

Chiron (Self-sacrifice) and Neptune (Life’s

Mysteries) are married to Jupiter, (Lord of the

Planets, the expansive desire) in Aquarius, the

WaterBearer... impersonal and serene. Mars in

The Astro-Sage

Page 110: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

retrograde in the fiery sign of Leo seeks to

oppose and disrupt this trinity. As the Moon

crosses over Mars expect conflict and

subversion, the Warrior and the Goddess unite to

contest all who seek to further personal cause.

This is a time when forward motion will seem

difficult but be patient, the transit is fast. By the

second week of Janus all conflict will be

resolved as the trine of Moon to Uranus will

bring serendipitous release.

Saturn will turn back toward Virgo on the 14th;

those who were tardy with Virginal homework

will be given the chance to make up for poor

grades. As it begins to descend below the

horizon into the 6th house of job and health,

nurturing others and self would be wise.

The Moon will be newing on the 15th, and union

with the Sun brings fruition to seeds planted on

the first day of the New Year. This union will

bring the first eclipse in 2010; Sol will see a

shadow fall upon the Earth in Capricorn, taking

the shape of the Dragon’s Head. The Pilgrim

should ponder the events of 19 years before, for

the cycle will repeat with this New Moon. Doors

open that were closed and there will be option

given to not repeat the past.

Impish Mercury will find its bearings and return

to direct on the 16th; clouds of confusion will

begin to clear and Electra will bring the Dawn’s

light. The seeker will notice she’s given to more

lucid thinking and ease with communication is

restored. To the sojourners delight, lost

valuables might suddenly reappear.

Lord Jupiter, Sovereign of the Planets, will enter

Pisces, the home of the Fishes, on the 18th. This

is the arrival of the Missionary, the return of the

Prophet. For the next 12 months benevolence

abounds and the Pilgrim is offered a helping

hand from the Divine. This placement is the

most optimistic position for Jupiter to arrive at

and the tide of redemption flows back to the

shoreline. Those who have shovel and pale at

ready surely a buried treasure in the sand will

find!

January ends with the moon coming to full in the

Lion on the 30th. Bright Orb of darkness casts

shadows across the nightscape... patterns of

life’s journey are woven to reveal the tapestry of

one’s being. The Chela would be wise to ponder

the mystery of self in the flickering embers of

Leo this night.

January presents the Voyager with both high and

low points as so it is with all Seasons of

Mankind; our lives in the material world are

given to duality. As 2010 begins the Wisdom of

the Buddha would have us contemplate thusly:

On life's journey Faith is nourishment,

Virtuous deeds are a shelter,

Wisdom is the light by day and Right

mindfulness is the protection by night.

If a man lives a pure life nothing can destroy

him;

If he has conquered greed nothing can limit his

freedom.

Oracle

Reading January 2010

By Deb Graves, Blue Ray Healing.

January 2010, will start out with many more

seeking their path and life purpose. Even those

who seemed to resist will feel the need to seek

out knowledge. The easiest way to find what

eludes you is to do it from the perspective of

joy. Ask yourself "Will this path bring me joy?"

As joy will lead you to your highest rewards. The

giving and receiving of joy brings about the

highest vibration including unconditional love.

Watch as those closest to you begin to sense

the shift within you, and they too will start to

vibrate at a higher frequency. Remember the

more love you give, the more love you have to

give, as love that is given freely returns to you

multiplied.

In order to stay focused in love and joy, take

time for yourself, be creative, go for a walk in

nature, sign up for a class that you have always

wanted to do. Allow the flow of love and joy to

course through your body. You can do it!

Even just 10 minutes a day doing something

that is just for you will bring about changes.

Don't forget to reward yourself for all of your

hard work, yes hard work, changing beliefs

about yourself and others, adjusting your diet

to become healthier and clearing out stuck

energies are not easy. A reward could be as

simple as a chocolate or buying something that

you really want, maybe that something that

usually gets put to the bottom of your list. You

could book yourself a spa treatment or go for

some energy healing. Thank and reward

yourself for loving you enough to move forward

in the flow of these amazing energies.

Page 112: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

The energy of family is also coming through. This could mean blood relatives or your extended earth family, or to your brothers and sisters of the light. Have you noticed that as you awaken to the possibilities of connectiveness that many of like minds are drawn together to share? Groups and circles are meeting and sharing; online gathering places are expanding and growing. These are the energies of the mass consciousness drawing you together with others to allow the giving and receiving of shared knowledge.

Crystal suggestion for January 2010

Green Chrysoberyl.

The flood of emotions that are felt when

holding this stone range from waves of

unconditional love, peace and compassion to a

sense of increased self healing energy. This

stone is also said to have the ability to open to

the receiving of the flow abundance. A stone of

new beginnings this seems perfect for January.

In the physical body it is felt that chrysoberyl

can assist with problems relating to the heart as

in heart dis-ease.

Other heart stones include rose quartz, datolite,

green calcite, malachite, tourmaline, moldavite

and diopside. When choosing a stone or crystal

go with the one that feels right to you. Don't be

concerned that it is not on this list as the crystal

will share with you what you need at this time,

as we are all at different stages in our evolution.

When interacting with a stone you may feel a

slight tingling in your hand, some people feel

sparks as if being shocked; both of these

reactions are telling you that this stone has

something to share with you. If you feel nothing

from these crystal entities don't worry, as they

will still let you know which one to choose. It

might just be the one that you can't take your

eyes off, or the one that falls to the floor

allowing you to touch it once again.

scientifically proven facts.

Dimensional Shift

For many at this time in history, there’s a sense

that all around us the world is caving in. No

matter what one’s physical circumstances (even

for those still well supported by society) there

may be a growing feeling of discontentment. It

would seem to be difficult for most people to feel

a real security in this time of chaos and despair.

Yet, there’s also a sense among many that a

growing shift in consciousness will bring

inevitable changes to this planet and species.

Those on the verge of such a conscious leap are

deeply aware that a coming dimensional shift will

bring with it the energy and awareness

necessary for the continued evolution of

humankind.

It would seem that humans now have no choice

but to become enlightened. This is to say that

each being now on this planet has no choice but

to become who they really are. This is the time

of a great awakening of humankind, and

anything short of full recognition of one’s real

self will leave each with a sense of loss. Look

around you and see those in states of upheaval

and distress. Why do you suppose this is now

occurring on such a global scale? It’s because

anyone who’s living less than a conscious life

isbeginning to realize their sense of futility.

Can you see how confused many of people have

become? Look and see what it’s like to live as

less than one’s ideal self. Living up to only part

of one’s spiritual capacity may have worked

here for centuries, because humans were still

evolving to a place where the entire species can

make a leap into higher consciousness. But now

that the time for this leap has come, we no

longer have the luxury of clinging to old dying

realities in the hope that we shall somehow be

served by them again.

Actually this shift is rather magically occurring,

but it’s still necessary for each being who will

partake in it to first decide how much they’re

willing for their life to change. These personal

changes are necessary if one is to keep up with

the pace of human evolution. If one is afraid of

By Gordon Artrias Rosenberg

Page 116: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

changing, one will stay mired in the past. In this

time of expanding awareness, we must each

change our old ways or be snared in the distress

of the dying aspects of former human

consciousness. Were you able to evolve fully

while continuing to live in your past reality, then

that would be happening for you.

Yet for many people, the state of relative

comfort in which they’ve been living has given

way to a state of distress, in order to prepare

them for the consciousness leap that’s coming.

People, it seems, by

nature are often afraid of

change to such a degree

that they will do virtually

anything to maintain their

comfort level – until they

can no longer tolerate the

pain brought about by

trying to hold onto past

beliefs and fears. Then

and only then will many

people change.

Are you so afraid of

changing that you hold

onto old ways of doing

things, even when they’re

no longer comfortable?

Many people are, and this is why the world is

now in such chaos and struggle. Those holding

onto the past are trying to keep things as they

were, while those wanting change and

evolution are pushing the comfort envelope.

We’ve reached the point where we must decide

individually if we’re coming or going and how

we each may fit into a new world. This is a time

of great decision and discovery and we each

must decide our role in our own future, and

where that future will occur for us. Great

tension building on this planet is an expression

of the need for individuals to see beyond

themselves.

When we identify only with our own needs,

we’re in conflict with our inner desire to live

according to our higher purpose. However,

when we realize that our interests are no

different than those of others and begin living

according to the needs of all, we become more

fulfilled. Do you know how to do what your

heart wants for you? Can you see that you’re

most benefited by doing what serves all? Each

being here wants

essentially the same

things, and if we all

worked together to

achieve these things we’d

evolve much more rapidly

as a species.

But while some people

now realize this, many

others are still struggling

in the hope of discovering

themselves as individuals.

This will ultimately result

in disaster for these

people, since individual

realization is not the way

of this world. The only

real way to happiness is to merge with higher

consciousness and play out the part for which

each of us has chosen birth. Then and only then

will we be satisfied in tomorrow’s world, and

only then will we discover the power of the new

energies coming here and how we may each

use them for the benefit of all.

WORLD

VISION When you look at the view of Earth from space, you are immediately in awe of what you do see: the incredible beauty of Creation. It is not until you look closer that you realize what you do not see. You do not see lines partitioning countries. You do not see separation between races. You do not see division between religions. You do not see the walls people build to isolate themselves from each other. There is just One Planet. There is only One Humanity. This section is dedicated to introducing thoughts and ideas to foster a greater understanding of Humanity’s interdependence.

OM-Times January 2010 Edition

The idea of volunteering in another country has long been considered the province of students and recent graduates; images of intrepid twenty-year-old Peace Corps workers in a remote Sierra Leone village might spring to mind. Today, however, the idea has reached far beyond that to become accessible, and highly popular, among travelers of all types and ages. Volunteer travel has grown so popular that a term has even been coined for it: Voluntourism. Foreign destinations are luring American citizens who want to sightsee, while at the same time engage in community service. Companies and websites specializing in voluntourism have sprung up by the hundreds, and volunteer vacations can be found in all parts of the world, doing all kinds of activities – from digging wells for clean water in South America, protecting the elephant population in South Africa, or working with children living in orphanages. It was this last type of volunteer vacation that hooked me – in fact, inspired me to write a book about my experiences. In 2004, I became involved with a nonprofit based in Austin, Texas called The Miracle Foundation, which manages orphanages

in India and recruits sponsors and donors to support the children living there. I began volunteering for the foundation and sponsored a

child, a ten year old boy named Santosh, living in the state of Orissa in northeastern India. Caroline Boudreaux, founder of the organization, soon invited me to accompany her and a group of other volunteers to Orissa. And so it was that in March 2005, I found myself in India for the first time – a ten-day volunteer trip that I was to make, it turned out, many more times over the years since. The village is remote, and it took forty-eight hours of exhausting travel to arrive at the

ashram where the children live. By the time we arrived, all ten volunteers in the group were suffering from sleep deprivation and culture shock; the overwhelming throngs of people, the smells and sounds that awakened all the senses at once. The streets filled with bicycles, rickshaws, cars and cows with the constant, blaring beep-beep of the horns that rose above it all. Mostly, the frantic poverty that does not let you rest. Caroline had briefed us well on both India and expectations for our week at the orphanage, but nothing could have prepared me for what I felt

when we turned through those gates. Dozens of children were lined around the drive in a semi-circle, waving and chanting "welcome" over and over. I climbed out and they swarmed all over me, reaching for my hands and touching my feet in blessing. I was overwhelmed, lost in the sea of small bodies; smiling, barefoot children who asked nothing from me more than simply being there.

As I would soon come to find, in India these “invisible children” are everywhere - they fill the streets, the railway stations, the villages. Others have been trafficked or taken into indentured labor to pay off an old family debt. They are orphaned by AIDS and malaria, simple infections or sometimes, nothing more than poverty – their parents cannot afford to feed them. Many are homeless, overflowing orphanages and other institutional homes to live on the streets. Amidst the growing prosperity of India there is an entire generation of parentless children growing up, often forced into child labor and prostitution – more than twenty-five million in all. But there in Choudwar, a small town about a hundred miles south of Calcutta, one man named Damodar Sahoo had dedicated his life to providing

a home and family for some of these children. Before The Miracle Foundation, he had constantly lacked enough food, clothing and supplies to adequately provide for those he had taken in – children who had nowhere else to turn. Mr. Sahoo, known to everyone simply as “Papa,” greeted the volunteers heartily, chewing the betel nut that turned his teeth red. He gave us a tour of the compound while the children trailed us, rushing past each other to claim a volunteer’s hand. They were everywhere, always underfoot, craving our attention. As I walked along four or five clung to each arm; when I sat down they filled my lap, their slight frames making barely an imprint against my skin. I spent the following days just being with the kids, befriending them, playing with them. Our days at the ashram were filled with games, reading, dancing and laughing. It felt a lot like summer camp. There were puzzles, English flash cards, hopscotch, frisbee and the hokey-pokey, which the children wanted to do over and over once it was taught to them. I began to discover who they were – their individual personalities and dreams. I watched the shy ones come out of their shells and self-confidence blossom. As it did, their “best behavior” fell away and they were normal kids, not always sweet and perfect but often mischievous as well. When they thought I wasn’t looking, they would shove each other out of the way or bestow thunks on one another’s heads in annoyance. They used the language barrier to their advantage, pretending at times not to understand when the adult volunteers said it was time to put a game away, reminding me of my daughter when she was young and seemingly deaf to the word “no.” We began to make friends, and I discovered that they were just as curious about us and our lives as we were about them. The kids spoke varying levels of English, largely dependent on how many years they had been living in the ashram and attending school. Some had a large vocabulary and conversational skills; others spoke little more than a few words of English. I found it was surprisingly

Page 120: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times January 2010 Edition

easy, however, to communicate without sharing even a word of common language. In many ways they were just like other children I’ve known with homes and families of their own – except for their neediness, their raw hunger for affection, love, belonging. In the midst of the games, laughter and silliness that we engaged in all day long it became almost easy for me to forget that they were orphans. When that reality came crashing back it never failed to hurt my insides with the same breathless intensity as it had the first time. Especially when it intruded unexpectedly, as happened one afternoon. Caroline and Papa had arranged an ice cream party. Two tables were pulled into the courtyard as the frozen cartons were delivered. The kids lined up eagerly from youngest to oldest to be handed their paper cups of ice cream as we scooped it out in a battle of time against the sun blazing overhead. As we served the icy treats and listened to the kids slurping away, I noticed that Santosh, the boy I sponsored, was nowhere to be seen. I asked some of the other boys about him, and they pointed toward the top of the stairs. I went up and found him sitting alone, seeming sad and listless. He wasn’t interested in the ice cream. A house mother named Madhu passed, and I asked her to help me find out what was wrong; I was afraid Santosh was hurt, or sick. Madhu took him into the boys' dorm and talked to him for several minutes. “He misses his mother,” she said simply when she came back out. I felt it in my heart, and knew that although they loved us being there it could sometimes only make them miss the presence of their own parents. The good of all these caring surrogate parent figures – Papa, Caroline, the house mothers, the volunteers – outweighed the heaviness of sorrow, to be sure. But it was easy to miss the sadness, at times, in the presence of love that filled the ashram. I was reminded anew that these children all carried secret grief and damage inside them, often hidden or temporarily forgotten but never erased entirely.

I sat with Santosh on the edge of the concrete walkway outside his dorm room. Draping my arm around his shoulders I squeezed reassuringly and held him against my side. I knew that his mother had died when he was so young he couldn’t possibly remember her, not really; but to mourn the idea of a mother, that huge absence in his life like a great gaping hole – that was another thing completely. We sat together, not speaking, while in the courtyard in front of us the other children slurped up their ice cream noisily.

For International Year of Biodiversity,

World Citizens Propose Planting Trees of Life

Rene Wadlow*

Listen for whispers from the woods, and

wisdom will come.

The United Nations General Assembly, in

Resolution 61/203; has proclaimed 2010 as the

International Year of Biodiversity. The

resolution, marking the UN Convention on

Biodiversity was passed prior to the holding of

the December 2009 Copenhagen Climate

Conference which highlighted the interactions

between global vegetation and climate, the

negative effects of deforestation on climate, the

importance of vegetation feedbacks on global

warming, and the extent to which forests create

their own micro-climatic influence.

Denmark was an appropriate location for this

emphasis on the role of woods and forests

acting for the benefit of the planet.

In Scandinavian mythology, the

Great World Tree, Yggdrasil, is the

tree of existence, the tree of life

and knowledge. Care of the tree is

entrusted to three maidens named

Urdhr (Past), Vervandi (Present)

and Skuld (Future). From this tree

springs forth our visible universe.

On the topmost branch of this tree

sits an eagle, who symbolizes light

and whose keen eyes see all things taking place

in the world. The tree is the cosmic pillar that

supports heaven and at the same time opens

the road to the world of the gods. The tree

permits an opening either upward (the divine

world) or downward (the underworld). The

three cosmic levels — earth, heaven, the

underworld — have been put into

communication.

In the myths and legends of other cultures, we

also find the importance of the tree as a symbol

of life with its roots underground, its trunk in

the world of humans and its top-most branches

touching the sky. Branches are compared to

steps or a ladder and so is a way by which the

hero climbs, through initiations, to higher

consciousness. It is under the protecting

branches of a tree that the Buddha

reached enlightenment. The loss

of the leaves of a tree and their

renewal has served as the symbol

of death and regeneration. The

tree is a living symbol. A grove of

trees was often considered sacred

and the sanctuary where religious

rituals were carried out.

In the grove of trees of life,

2010: International Year of Biodiversity

Page 123: OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

OM-Times Magazine January 2010 Edition

animals also have symbolic meaning, such as

the eagle in the Scandinavian myths. Birds

represent the element air, and a snake, thought

to live underground among the roots, a symbol

of the earth or the link to the world of after life.

This symbolism of animals in a tree grove was

stressed by A.J. Wensinck in his study Tree and

bird as cosmological symbols in Western Asia.

For African examples see the

extensive research of Viviana

Paques.L’Arbre Cosmique Dans

Le Pensée Populaire et Dans La

Vid Quotidienne Du Nord-

Ouest Africain. In the Bhagavad

Gita, the tree is the symbol of

the person and his destiny, a

symbol also used by Plato as

well as in the Kabalist Zohar.

Thus the tree is an appropriate

symbol for the integration of

human, animal and plant life in

a system of biodiversity. The

planting and care of a tree is a ritual of respect

for biodiversity and a way to overcome the

sense of separation from nature which many

humans feel. Societies have often taught its

members to fear nature or to conquer nature —

an understandable attitude in earlier stages of

human evolution. However, today, this

disconnection from nature produces

dysfunctions and environmental, social and

mental problems. Re-contacting with nature

can produce joy, regeneration and community

bonding.

This feeling of harmony with nature is what the

former Harvard biologist Edward O. Wilson

called “biophilia” — connections that human

beings subconsciously seek with the rest of life.

Our natural senses are designed to bring our

being into harmony, fulfillment and community

with the world. As Wilson wrote “wilderness

settles peace on the soul.”

Obviously, there are many

different aspects to the

protection of biodiversity,

measures which need to be

undertaken within the United

Nations system (1), by national

governments and by local

authorities. However,

individual action is necessary

and important. The planting of

a tree both individually and as a

group effort is an important

sign of respect for biodiversity

and thus a contribution to the

International Year of

Biodiversity. Each planting can be accompanied

by the thoughts, emotions and words

considered appropriate.

Each tree is a living symbol of respect for nature

and a positive contribution to world citizenship.

Date Guest Show Description 1/6/2010 Dr. Dan Mathews

Dr. Dan Mathews had a near death experience in August of 1992. On the other side of the veil he was ordained into the priesthood of Melchizedek and was given specific information about the “paradigms” which are defined as the level of consciousness that exists on earth.* He was told that since the original downfall of man only three paradigms or realities had existed: one which began at the dawn of time, the second beginning with Abraham and the third emerged during the life of Jesus. Dr. Dan was told that beginning in 2003 humanity would enter into a warp-speed evolution of consciousness by moving through another twelve new paradigms of consciousness.
