■ RECOMMENDED MIXING RATIO GASOLINE 50 : OIL 1<when using ZENOAH genuine oil>• Exhaust emission are controlled by the funda-

mental engine parameters and components (eq.,carburation, ignition timing and port timing) with-out addition of any major hardware or the intro-duction of an inert material during combustion.

• These engines are certified to operate on unleadedgasoline.

• Make sure to use gasoline with a minimum octanenumber of 89RON (USA/Canada: 87AL).

• If you use a gasoline of a lower octane value than pre-scribed, there is a danger that the engine tempera-ture may rise and an engine problem such as pistonseizing may consequently occur.

• Unleaded gasoline is recommended to reduce thecontamination of the air for the sake of your health andthe environment.

• Poor quality gasolines or oils may damage sealingrings, fuel lines or fuel tank of the engine.

■ HOW TO MIX FUEL

• Pay attention to agitation.

1. Measure out the quantities of gasoline and oil to bemixed.

2. Put some of the gasoline into a clean, approved fuelcontainer.

3. Pour in all of the oil and agitate well.4. Pour in the rest of gasoline and agitate again for at

least one minute. As some oils may be difficult toagitate depending on oil ingredients, sufficient agi-tation is necessary for the engine to last long. Becareful that, if the agitation is insufficient, there is anincreased danger of early piston seizing due to ab-normally lean mixture.

5. Put a clear indication on the outside of the containerto avoid mixing up with gasoline or other containers.

6. Indicate the contents on outside of container for easyidentification.

■ FUELING THE UNIT1. Untwist and remove the fuel cap. Rest the cap on a

dustless place.2. Put fuel into the fuel tank to 80% of the full capacity.3. Fasten the fuel cap securely and wipe up any fuel

spillage around the unit.

1. Select bare ground for fueling.2. Move at least 3 meters (10 feet) away from the fuel-

ing point before starting the engine.3. Stop the engine before refueling the unit. At that time,

be sure to sufficiently agitate the mixed gasoline inthe container.

■ FOR YOUR ENGINE LIFE, AVOID:1. FUEL WITH NO OIL (RAW GASOLINE) – It will cause

severe damage to the internal engine parts veryquickly.

2. GASOHOL – It can cause deterioration of rubber and/or plastic parts and disruption of engine lubrication.

3. OIL FOR 4-CYCLE ENGINE USE – It can cause sparkplug fouling, exhaust port blocking, or piston ringsticking.

4. Mixed fuels which have been left unused for a pe-riod of one month or more may clog the carburetorand result in the engine failing to operate properly.

5. In the case of storing the product for a long period oftime, clean the fuel tank after rendering it empty. Next, activate the engine and empty the carburetor of thecomposite fuel.

6. In the case of scrapping the used mixed oil container, scrap it only at an authorized repository site.

• As for details of quality assurance, read the descrip-tion in the section Limited Warranty carefully. More-over, normal wear and change in product with nofunctional influence are not covered by the warranty. Also, be careful that, if the usage in the instructionmanual is not observed as to the mixed gasoline, etc. described therein, it may not be covered by thewarranty.

7. Fuel■ FUEL

• Gasoline is very flammable. Avoid smoking orbringing any flame or sparks near fuel. Make sureto stop the engine and allow it cool before refuel-ing the unit. Select outdoor bare ground for fuel-ing and move at least 3 m (10 ft) away from thefueling point before starting the engine.

• The Zenoah engines are lubricated by oil specially for-mulated for air-cooled 2-cycle gasoline engine use. IfZenoah oil is not available, use an anti-oxidant addedquality oil expressly labeled for air-cooled 2-cycle en-gine use (JASO FC GRADE OIL or ISO EGC GRADE).

• Do not use BIA or TCW (2-stroke water-cooling type)mixed oil.

6. While holding the unit firmly, pull out the starter ropequickly until engine fires.

WARNING

The product is equipped with a centrifugal clutchmechanism, so the cutting attachment begins to ro-tate as soon as the engine is started by putting thethrottle trigger into the start position. When startingthe engine, place the product onto the ground in aflat clear area and hold it firmly in place so as to en-sure that neither the cutting attachment nor thethrottle trigger come into contact with any obstaclewhen the engine starts.

IMPORTANT

• Avoid pulling the rope to its end or returning it by re-leasing the knob. Such actions can cause starter fail-ures.

7. Move the choke lever downward to open the choke. And restart engine.

8. Allow the engine to warm up for a several minutesbefore starting operation.

NOTE

1. When restarting the engine immediately after stop-ping it, leave the choke open.

2. Overchoking can make the engine hard to start dueto excess fuel. When the engine failed to start afterseveral attempts, open the choke and repeat pullingthe rope, or remove the spark plug and dry it.

• Warm up the engine before adjusting the idling speed.

CUTTER APPLICATION CHART• Replace by a suitable recommended cutting attach-

ment according to the object to be cut.

• When replacing blade always be sure to use productswhich have been certified by ZENOAH.

WARNING

• When sharpening, removing, or reattaching the blade,be sure to wear thick, sturdy gloves and use onlyproper tools and equipment to prevent injury.

8. Operation

METAL BLADE USAGE1. Check the nut to fasten the blade and be sure the nut

has no fault, and no abrasion.2. Be sure that the blade and the holder have been fas-

tened according to instruction and the blade turnssmoothly without abnormal noise.

WARNING

• The rotating parts fastened incorrectly maycause serious accident to the operator.

• Make sure that the blade is not bent, warped, cracked, broken or damaged.

• If you find any error to the blade, discard itand change new one which is certified byZENOAH.

• By using the harness, hang the unit on your right side.Adjust the harness length so that the cutting headmay become parallel to the ground.

WARNING

CONTROLLING BLADE BOUNCE• Blade thrust can cause serious personal injury. Care-

fully study this section. It is important that you under-stand what causes blade thrust, how you can reducethe chance of blade thrust and how you can remainin control of the unit if blade thrust does occur.

1. What causes blade thrust:• Blade thrust occur when the moving blade contacts

an object that it cannot cut. This contact causes theblade to stop for an instant and then suddenly moveor ”bounce” away from the object that was hit. Theoperator can lose control of the unit and the bladecan cause serious personal injury to the operator orany person nearby if the blade contacts any part ofthe body.

2. How you can reduce the chance of bladethrust:

a. Recognize that blade thrust can happen. By under-standing and knowing about bounce, you can helpeliminate the element of surprise.

b. Cut fibrous weeds and grass only. Do not let the bladecontact materials it cannot cut such as hard, woodyvines and brush or rocks, fences, metal, etc.

8. OperationCUTTING METHOD(a) Use the front left side cutting.(b) Guide the blade from your right to left with it tilted

slightly to your left.(c) When mowing a wide area, start working from your

left end to avoid interference of cut grass.(d) The blade may be seized by weeds if the engine

speed is too low, or the blade cuts too deep intoweeds. Adjust the engine speed and cutting depthaccording to the condition of object.

WARNING

• If the grass or other object gets caught in the blade,or if the unit starts to shake or vibrate, turn off theengine and check the whole unit. Change the blade ifit has been damaged.

• Turn off the engine and make sure the blade has com-pletely stop before checking the blade, and remov-ing any object got caught in.

c. Be extra prepared for bounce if you must cut whereyou cannot see the blade making contact such as inareas of dense growth.

d. Keep the blade sharp. A dull blade increase thechance of bounce.

e. Avoid feeding the blade too rapidly. The blade canbounce away from material being cut if the blade isfed faster than its cutting capability.

f. Cut only from your right to your left.g. Keep your path of advance clear of material that has

been cut and other debris.

3. How you can maintain the best control:a. Keep a good, firm grip on the unit with both hands. A

firm grip can help neutralize bounce. Keep your rightand left hands completely around the respectivehandles.

b. Keep both feet spread apart in a comfortable stanceand yet braced for the possibility that the unit couldbounce. Do not overreach. Keep firm footing andbalance.

CUTTING WORK (TRIMMER HEAD USAGE)

WARNING

1. Always wear eye protection such as safetygoggles. Never lean over the rotating cutting head.Rocks or other debris could be thrown into eyesand face and cause serious personal injury.

2. Keep the cutting attachment guard in place at alltimes when the unit is operated.

TRIMMING GRASS AND WEEDS• Always remember that the TIP of the line does cut-

ting. You will achieve better results by not crowdingthe line into the cutting area. Allow the unit to trim atits own pace.

1. Hold the unit so the head is off the ground and is tiltedabout 20 degrees toward the sweep direction.

2. You can avoid thrown debris by sweeping from yourleft to the right.

8. Operation3. Use a slow, deliberate action to cut heavy growth.

The rate of cutting motion will depend on the materialbeing cut. Heavy growth will require slower action thanwill light growth.

4. Never swing the unit so hard as you are in danger oflosing your balance or control of the unit.

5. Try to control the cutting motion with the hip ratherthan placing the full workload on the arm and hands.

6. Take precautions to avoid wire, grass and dead, dry,long-stem weeds from wrapping around the headshaft. Such materials can stall the head and causethe clutch to slip, resulting in damage to the clutchsystem if repeated frequently.

ADJUSTING THE LINE LENGTH• Your brush cutter is equipped with a semi- auto type

nylon line head that allows the operator to advancethe line without stopping the engine. When the linebecomes short, lightly tap the head on the groundwhile running the engine at full throttle.

• Each time the head is bumped, the line advancesabout 25 mm. For better effect, tap the head on bearground or hard soil. Avoid bumping in thick, tall grassas the engine may stall by overload.

WARNING

• Make sure that the engine has stopped and is coolbefore performing any service to the machine.Contact with moving cutting head or hot mufflermay result in a personal injury.

AIR FILTER• The air filter, if clogged, will reduce the engine perfor-

mance. Check and clean the filter element in warm, soapy water as required. Dry completely before in-stalling. If the element is broken or shrunk, replacewith a new one.

FUEL FILTER• When the engine runs short of fuel supply, check the

fuel cap and the fuel filter for blockage.

SPARK PLUG• Starting failure and misfiring are often caused by a

fouled spark plug. Clean the spark plug and checkthat the plug gap is in the correct range. For a re-placement plug, use the correct type specified byZENOAH.

• REPLACEMENT PLUG IS A NGK CMR7H-10.

IMPORTANT

• Note that using any spark plug other than those des-ignated may result in the engine failing to operate prop-erly or in the engine becoming overheated and dam-aged.

• To install the spark plug, first turn the plug until it isfinger tight, then tighten it a quarter turn more with asocket wrench.

11. Disposal• When you dispose of the machine, do not disas-

semble the machine.• When you dispose of the machine, fuel, oil, be sure

to follow your local regulations.

INTAKE AIR COOLING VENT

WARNING

• Check the intake air cooling vent after every 25hours of use for blockage, and remove any wastewhich has attached itself to the brushcutter.

IMPORTANT

• If waste gets stuck and causes blockage around theintake air cooling vent, it may cause the engine tooverheat, and that in turn may cause mechanical fail-ure on the part of the machine.

MUFFLER

WARNING

• Inspect periodically, the muffler for loose fasten-ers, any damage or corrosion. If any sign of ex-haust leakage is found, stop using the machineand have it repaired immediately in the repair spe-cialty store.

• Note that failing to do so may result in the enginecatching on fire.

SPARK ARRESTER• The muffler is equipped with a spark arrester to pre-

vent red hot carbon from flying out of the exhaust out-let. Periodically inspect and clean as necessary witha wire brush in the repair specialty store.
