OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT

1. Operations defined;

Jobs or tasks consisting of one or more elements or subtasks, performed typically in one location. Operations transform resource or data inputs into desired goods, services, or results, and create and deliver value to the customers. Two or more connected operations constitute a process, and are generally divided into four basic categories: (1) processing, (2) inspection, (3) transport, and (4) storage.

2. Operations Management defined;

Operations management refers to the administration of business practices to create the highest level of efficiency possible within an organization. Operations management is concerned with converting materials and labor into goods and services as efficiently as possible to maximize the profit of an organization.The design, execution, and control of operations that convert resources into desired goods and services, and implement a company's business strategy.

3. Significance of studying Operations Management; In operations management the student will find tools and information to become the best manager possible. Many of the management tools learned in operations management may be applied to personal life and other disciplines. You will be more successful in life as well as work with these tools.1. OM is one of three major functions (marketing, finance, and operations) of any organization and we study how people organize themselves for productive enterprise.2. We want to know how goods and services are produced.3. To understand what operations managers do.4. It provides a major opportunity for an organization to improve its profitability and enhance its service to society.
