International Food & Music Festival—THIS FRIDAY

The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) is pleased to announce the return of the annual International Food and Music Festival on Friday, March 30, 2012 from 5:30

to 7:30 in the Qatar Ballroom, LBC 212!

This festival provides a great way for American and International students, faculty, staff and ethnic/language student organizations to share a taste of their home culture and cuisine with the Tulane and New Orleans community. This is an event that spotlights our diverse interna-tional community at Tulane.

This Festival, in keeping with New Orleans' tradition of spring festivals, is meant to bring Tulane's international community together and showcase your food and culture to each other and the community of New Orleans! Inter-national students and scholars bring so much life and diversity to this area – this festival is our big chance to come together and cele-brate this contribution.

So what makes New Orleans festivals, and this festival in particular, so GREAT?

Food, for one! We'll have food from all over the world! Music, for two! Many students have volunteered to perform, and we're bringing in different bands as well to play a variety of music. And then, number three, we'll have cultural displays and activities so that everyone who attends will have lots to learn and enjoy!

We also are still looking for volunteers. You can come and help us for as little as one hour or for the duration of the festivals! If you would like to help decorate, perform or help us coordinate the festival on-site, we would greatly appreciate it!. Come be a part of this great event!

City Hall Fellows Application Now Available

Application deadline: April 12

City Hall Fellows is a non-partisan national service corps training the next generation of leaders for America's cities; this co-hort will be working in San Francisco. The 12-month, paid, post-college Fellowship integrates hands-on experience working within the highest levels of local government with intensive training in how cities work. The Fellowship is open to students of all majors. A detailed overview of the Fellowship, as well as application materials and instructions, are on our website, http://www.cityhallfellows.org. The Fellowship year begins on approximately August 1, 2012 and runs through the end of July 2013. Our staff, Fellows, and alumni will be visiting campuses over the next 6 weeks. STEM Grants available for students from the National Science Foundation

Deadline: April 17

The NSF and Louisiana Board of Regents are offering grants to women and underrepresented minority students in STEM fields at Louisiana universities. The grants pay for students to work with professors employed at Louisiana universities ($4,000 for the student and $500 for the faculty member) over one to three semesters (or summer). Program Overview

The Technology Summer Internship Development Program introduces and prepares highly-motivated participants for the firm’s information technolo-gy organization over a 10-week period. The internship program is structured similarly to the full-time program. The variety of roles offered is vast and constantly evolving, with numerous opportunities to gain technology experience across all business areas. Interns are offered the opportunity to work as an integral member of a technology team in one of our major business lines – Asset Management, Card Services, the Investment Bank, Retail Finan-cial Services, Commercial Bank, and Treasury & Securities Services – or our Corporate Group.

Our concentrated program requires that you actively contribute to upgrading and improving the efficiency of our infrastructure that allows us to deliv-er products and services to our clients around the world. Over the program, you will gain hands-on knowledge by working alongside experienced pro-fessionals who oversee and manage the deployment of business-aligned technologies and infrastructure.

Program placement occurs in the following locations:

Roles and Responsibilities

These are the different opportunities that are available within the Technology Summer Internship Development Program:

Application Developer: Translate business and technical requirements into applications or solutions; design and develop solutions for clients, working directly with traders and marketers; drive best practices with the possible move to Continuous Integration Testing (CIT); deliver new business products or enhance existing applications; learn the realities of real-time coding in an electronic trading environment and the devel-opment of a pricing system which requires up to 80 inputs to value a complex financial product

Business Systems Analyst: Identify, assess, and record near-term business needs; analyze requirements; identify, recommend and articulate busi-ness needs priorities; advise on options, risks and costs versus benefits; assist with feasibility studies, design specifications, test analysis, and user training – right through final implementation; partner closely with other teams

Infrastructure Engineer: Identify the latest technology solutions; select and implement products; provide production support; work hand in hand with project managers in delivering critical business-aligned technology projects; work on diverse array of technologies including Wintel, Unix Server and Database Systems Administration, Server and Desktop Operating Systems Support, Data and Voice Networking, Large Mid-Range and Mainframe Administration and Support, Batch Scheduling, Real-Time Fault Monitoring and Performing Tuning Technologies, Prob-lem and Incident Mgmt

Systems Support Engineer: Manage and monitor the applications and systems that are critical to our day-to-day operations and clients’ business-es; work with systems across the Front, Middle, or Back office on trading applications, investment or accounting platforms or other applica-tions; proactively seek quality and efficiency improvements via configuration changes and management of the production environment; as-sist with quality assurance, test scripts and document defects; run maintenance procedures and take action based on analysis; respond to support calls

Training and Development

You will be exposed to different technology areas through varied training and presentations. Technology interns join our teams who are responsible for designing, developing and supporting the applications or projects that give our businesses their competitive edge.

Qualifications

Only those candidates who are highly motivated and eager to begin their career in technology within our financial services organization will be consid-ered. Business & Technical knowledge is required to succeed in the program. Other specific qualifications include:

Rising seniors with limited opportunities for rising sophomores and juniors

Working towards a BA/BS degree, in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering and/or MIS is preferred

Preferred GPA of 3.2+

Previous related internship experience and/or other relevant experience is preferred

Strong written/verbal communication skills

Working knowledge of C, C++, Java, C#, Visual Basic, SQL, networking and infrastructure and/or server administration

All candidates must have the eligibility to work permanently in the U.S.
