Summer 2015 Newsletter
Progress Continues on the Construction of the New OHPCC
Works are progressing at a good pace with
significant progress visible as the blocks ascend to
first floor level. A third large crane has also been
assigned to the job.
Concrete frame and floor slabs are complete in
most blocks. Internal columns and external walls to
first floor have been completed in Blocks A, B, C
and F. Concrete has been poured in the 1st section
of the 1st floor to Block C with more sections of
floor to follow in the coming weeks.
Facing brickworks are ongoing in Blocks A, F and C.
Construction of the main car parks is due to
commence in June as the weather improves.
Over the page is more detail on the location and
services contained in each Block.
The building will consist of two floors with an area
covering 23,339 square metres (excl. roof plant).
The project will cost approximately £105m.
Equipment update
The Trust recently purchased £1.3m worth of
equipment and this is now operational in the various
departments of the Tyrone County Hospital and will
transfer across to the new building.
Work is on-going to select the built-in specialist
equipment such as theatre pendants, CT scanner,
HSDU sterilisation equipment, patient hoists and
dental chairs.

Mock Up Facility (work in progress)
A mock-up facility is currently under construction at the chapel
near the Estates dept. on T&F Hospital site.
The mock-up facility consists of two standard rooms that are
frequently repeated throughout the new hospital. These are a
standard in-patient single room with ensuite, and a standard
consulting examination room.
This facility will not only enable more informed sign-off of a
quarter of the total rooms in the design, but will also at a later
stage, fulfil a crucial role in the training and preparation of staff
for the transfer to the new facilities.
Furniture samples are being sourced to fully kit out the rooms.
A consultation programme is currently being developed to test
the design of the mock-up rooms against the requirements of
facilities management (FM) staff, clinical staff, infection control,
patients and visitors in terms of standards, layout, ease of use of
equipment etc.
It is anticipated that Staff familiarisation and feedback for the
mockup room will take place from late Summer 2015.
Staff Base
Excellent viewing opportunities into the rooms are
possible from the four staff bases.
Patients can also choose to close the blinds for additional
privacy and dignity.

Relocation Leads
Each Department/Service has a nominated
Relocation Lead who will help bring their
ward/department successfully into
operation in the New Hospital. The
updated list of names will be shared soon.
The Project Team will be working closely
with all Relocation Leads to support this
essential work and to make the process
manageable and achievable for everyone.
Travel Plan
The project team have engaged with the Dept. of Regional
Development regarding completion of the travel plan. Planning
approval for the project was granted subject to a number of
planning conditions, one of which is a completed travel plan.
Following the main summer holidays, staff working in TCH,
Omagh health Centre and Lissan house will be asked to
complete an on-line travel survey related to their commute to
work and how this might change when the new facility opens.
Staff without access to a computer can also request a survey
questionnaire.
As the staff travelling to the T&F campus will approximately
double once the facility opens, staff currently on T&F Hospital
campus will also be surveyed to ascertain whether their
commute pattern might change in respect of issues such as
increased pool of staff to engage in a car share commute. GP
patients, hospital patients, social care clients and visitors will
also be surveyed and the final survey results will help inform
plans for issues such as the timing and frequency of buses and
a separate allocation of car-share parking spaces.
The questionnaire will only take a short time to complete and
staff and the public will be encouraged to engage in
September/October 2015 so that the response levels give a
meaningful indicator of the commuting and visiting habits.
A Look Ahead…
Integrating Art into the Building
A number of wall panels and partition screens within
the construction will be built as permanent displays
for the new Omagh Hospital and will portray
interesting topics including the history of healthcare
in the local area. These panels will include early
photographs of buildings, staff photographs and
excerpts from old minute books and log books etc.
Also, as part of this project and to acknowledge over
100 years of dedicated care at the Tyrone County
Hospital (TCH) we hope to document our health care
provision as it stands at present, by visiting TCH and
photographing our existing staff in their respective
departments with equipment etc. Where possible we
will let staff in each department know in advance,
when we hope to do this. We are expecting to do this
over the summer months.
We don’t necessarily need to photograph everyone,
that may be an impossibility, but we would hope to
capture most staff.
Thanks in advance for your cooperation with this
exercise which will be one of a number of events to
mark the final six months of the TCH.
