A Record Setting Summer!Team WLSL™ is set to break the World Record on June 20, 2014. And you can be part of the team!

This summer The Salvation Army Kroc Center will once again be an Official Host Location for The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL), the largest simultaneous swim lesson sending the message that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™ to millions around the globe.

On Friday, June 20th tens of thousands of kids and adults at aquatic facilities around the world will unite for the fifth year in a row to set a new Guinness World Record™. This will be the second year the Omaha Kroc Center has participated. Swimmers are asked to be at the Kroc Center by 9am to suit up and get ready. The global record attempt for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ will take place promptly at 10am!

The Kroc Center participates to help spread the message of the impor-tance of swimming lessons. Research shows participation in formal swimming lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88% among children aged 1 to 4, yet many kids do not receive formal swim-ming or water safety training. If you want more information or would like to register contact Candice Kellogg, Kroc Center Aquatics Manager, at 402-905-3591 or [email protected]. Participants may also register through the Kroc Center Welcome Desk, 402-905-3500.

What puts the Premier in Premier Soccer Camp?

The Premier Soccer Camp is different than our Recreational Soccer Camp with an advanced, more intense level of coaching led by experi-enced, well-seasoned coaches. A higher level of technique is taught with more attention to details of the game and balancing skill levels of the play-ers attending. Players attending the Premier Soccer Camp will get 5 nights or 15 hours of focused soccer training on the Kroc Center’s outdoor lighted turf field. Training techniques and skills for all positions includ-ing individual Goalkeeper training, Team Play and Individual training will be taught. The Premier Soccer Camp will specifically address transitioning players from recreational or “bubble” playing to a more com-petitive style of soccer playing and coaching. Players will be able to take these skills and apply them in the other soccer leagues, clubs and teams they play on.

The Premier Soccer Camp for ages 10-17 runs at the Kroc Center July 14-18, Monday-Friday, from 6:30pm-9:30pm. The cost is $40 per player for non-members and $25 for members and includes coach and player evaluations at the end of the week along with a ball, water bottle, camp shirt and an abundance of soccer skill building.

The Recreational Soccer Camp for ages 5-9 also runs July 14-18, from 5:30-6:30pm. It focuses on soccer basics and fundamentals within a recreational set-ting. To register for either camp call Brandon Palmer, Kroc Center Sports & Rec Manager, at 402-905-3576 or register in person at the Welcome Desk.
