It was the most threes in a game by any Maverick since Marcus Tyus had eight at South Dakota State (Jan, 7, 2017). Robinson had four straight double-figure scoring performances from Nov. 17-25.

Norl Off to a Strong Start Senior Daniel Norl has had a strong start to his senior season, ranking second on the team for scoring with 13.0 points per game. The Clarksville, Tenn., native earned his first career start at Montana State (Nov. 10), exploding for career highs of 29 points, nine rebounds and two steals while shooting 13-of-18. He posted his second 20-point effort with a game-high 23 points, three boards, a career-high-tying seven assists and a career-best three steals at Oral Roberts (Dec. 30). With 93 assists to his credit, he is Omaha's active career leader in the category, and he is eighth in the league for assists (64) this season. Norl made his Maverick debut in 2016-17, appearing in 29 contests and averaging 5.6 points, 1.4 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 15.6 minutes per game. He had eight double-figure scoring performances as a junior, including a season-high 14 points with four 3-pointers in Omaha's quarterfinal win over Fort Wayne in the Summit League Tournament. He accounted for 10 performances with at least two 3-pointers.

Wofford-Humphrey Making a Difference Senior Lamar Wofford-Humphrey had a standout effort at No. 18 Louisville (Nov. 17), tallying his first double-double as a Maverick with 14 points, a team-high 12 rebounds, three steals, a block and an assist. The transfer from Eastern Michigan has eight double-figure scoring games to his credit, including his most recent with a career-high 18 points at Western Illinois (Jan. 11) on 7-of-9 shooting with a trio of 3-pointers. He has the team lead and ranks fourth in the Summit League for offensive rebounds (43).

The Pile Driver Freshman Matt Pile averaged 6.3 minutes per game over the first three contests this season but has seen his court time increase to 17.4 minutes per game since then. In that stretch, Pile has boosted his averages to 7.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game off the bench. Pile notched his first career double-double vs. Doane (Jan. 2) with career highs of 18 points and 10 rebounds and 9-of-11 shooting. He put together a six-block performance vs. Denver (Jan. 18), which marked the most of any Maverick since Adam Wetzel's six in 2002. Pile ranks third in the Summit League for blocks (25) this season.

Welcome Back, Renard Senior Renard Suggs made his Maverick debut vs. Montana State (Dec. 21) and has quickly moved up to average double-digit minutes off the bench. The Washington State transfer scored in double figures in back-to-back games with 14 points at Oral Roberts (Dec. 30) and 13 vs. Doane (Jan. 2), and he has averaged 6.4 points over his first seven games. Suggs is the son of former Maverick standout Rickey Suggs. The elder Suggs played basketball at UNO from 1980-85, was part of three Omaha squads to play in the NCAA Tournament (1981-82, 1982-83, 1983-84) and went on to a professional football career in the Canadian Football League.

had double-doubles vs. Cornell College (Dec. 17). It marked the first time this season Omaha has had two double-doubles in a single game. The last time two Mavericks reached double-double territory on the same night was March 6, 2017 vs. IUPUI in the Summit League Tournament Semifinals, when Mitch Hahn had 21 points and 10 boards and Tre'Shawn Thurman had 15 points and 12 rebounds.

Road Warriors Omaha plays 18 of its 30 games on the road in 2017-18, including seven straight to open the season while its home facility, Baxter Arena, was the host site of the U.S. Olympic Curling Trials. The Mavericks began with three games in one continuous seven-day trip at Montana State (Nov. 10), Oklahoma (Nov. 12) and New Mexico (Nov. 14). Following a short return home, they set out again for Louisville (Nov. 17), and after another short trip back to Omaha, visited TCU (Nov. 20). A Thanksgiving trip to Niceville, Fla., capped it off with two games in the Emerald Coast Classic, Nov. 24-25.

Final Four Foes During the 2017-18 non-conference slate, Omaha faced three teams with NCAA Final Four appearances on their resumes in the last decade. Oklahoma last made the Final Four in 2016, while Kansas went in 2012 and 2008, and Louisville earned a trip in 2012 and 2013. Six of the Mavericks' 2017-18 opponents have earned at least one NCAA Tournament berth over the last four years: Kansas (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017), Louisville (2014, 2015, 2017), Oklahoma (2014, 2015, 2016), North Dakota State (2014, 2015), South Dakota State (2016, 2017) and New Mexico (2014).

The Division I Years The Mavericks led the Summit League in scoring three consecutive years from 2013-14 to 2015-16, averaging 79.9 ppg in 2013-14, 76.8 ppg in 2014-15 and 85.3 ppg in 2015-16, respectively, before ranking second among league teams in 2016-17. What Omaha Lost Omaha lost five letterwinners from last year's squad: guards Tra-Deon Hollins, Marcus Tyus and Kyler Erickson, forward Tre'Shawn Thurman and center Zach Pirog. Hollins was a two-time first-team All-Summit selection and a two-time Summit League Defensive Player of the Year. He graduated as Omaha's all-time leader for career and single-season steals, compiling 235 in just two seasons. Tyus was Omaha's 37th 1,000-point scorer in school history, and he capped his career with 1,334 points to his credit. Thurman earned All-Summit Honorable Mention recognition last year and also eclipsed the 1,000-point scoring threshold. He was the 11th player in school history with at least 1,000 points and 500 rebounds in a career.

Fresh Faces Omaha's roster features eight newcomers this season, including six freshmen beginning their collegiate careers: a trio of guards in Ayo Akinwole (Papillion, Neb.), Hayden Miller (Nebraska City, Neb.) and Zach Thornnhill (Lenexa, Kan.) and a trio of forwards in Matt Pile (Goddard, Kan.), Evan Tricker (Naples, Fla.) and Wanjang Tut (Omaha, Neb.). As a prep player at First Baptist Academy, he averaged 10.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.1 blocks per game, and he also played for Montverde Academy in the summer of his sophomore year in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Tut comes to Omaha after a year at The Skill Factory Prep. He was previously a four-year letterwinner at Omaha Burke High School, where he was an honorable mention all-state pick and averaged 12.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, 2.8 blocks and 1.4 assists per game. Tut also played for the South Sudan National Team.

Hitting the Century Mark Omaha hit the century mark for the first time this season in its 100-60 win over Doane on Jan. 2. Over the 13-year Derrin Hansen era, the Mavericks are 22-3 when scoring 100 points or more in a game.

2017-18 Slate = Tough Test for Mavericks Omaha’s 2017-18 schedule includes 30 games, and the team will play in 16 states against schools from 11 other Division I conferences. The schedule has three opponents from the Big 12 and one each from the ACC, Pac-12, Mountain West, MVC, Big West, Sun Belt, Big Sky, OVC and SWAC. Three opponents – Kansas, Louisville and defending Summit League champion South Dakota State – played in the 2017 NCAA Tournament, with KU reaching the Elite Eight.

Up Next Omaha visits North Dakota State on Thursday, Jan. 25, with tipoff set for 7 p.m. in Fargo, N.D. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and Midco, and Gary Sharp will have the radio call on 1180 Zone 2. Links to live stats, audio and video will be available on OMavs.com.
