amily o coprocessors rom Texas Instruments
(TI) helps meet that demand.
The highly integrated OMAP-DM5x amily
o multimedia coprocessors combines low-
power hardware and programmable image
processing capability to deliver high-quality
still image and video or mobile handset
designs. With the OMAP-DM5x amilys ease
o design and scalability, new products can be
brought to market quickly, with minimal devel-
opment costs. Pin compatibility between all
OMAP-DM5x coprocessors allows designers
to easily upgrade designs to match changing
consumer demands now and in the uture.
TIs OMAP-DM5x coprocessors bring
accelerated imaging perormance to mobile
phones, delivering digital still camera quality
support or up to 20-megapixel sensors as
well as up to 720p H.264 camcorderperormance, giving mobile phone users the
best possible imaging and video perormance
available. Low shot-to-shot delays o less than
1.5 seconds gives consumers perormance
similar to a digital still camera, a requirement
that is migrating into the mobile environment.
An integrated standard TV-out interace
eliminates external components, saving board
space and cost. Additionally, seamless interaces
to OMAP applications processors and other
baseband and applications processors
provide urther cost and board space savings.
OverviewThe OMAP-DM5x amily o coprocessors
comes with a complete sotware package,
delivered by TI, that enables quick and ecient
development o new or existing mobile handset
designs. OMAP-DM5x coprocessors eature a
high-perormance ARM9 microprocessor as
well as TIs advanced image signal processor(ISP) technology and dedicated video coproces-
sor to deliver industry-leading, 20-megapixel
still camera imaging as well as 720p H.264
camcorder unctions. A variety o memory and
eatures sets are available to meet the needs o
every mobile handset, as shown in the table on
page 2.
Flexible interaces allow the OMAP-DM5x
amily o coprocessors to support a multitude
o sensors and controls, including:

OMAP-DM5x coprocessors deliver a seamless
interace to application and baseband proces-
sors via SPI, host port interace (HPI), I2C and

costs. OMAP-DM5x coprocessors operate side
by side with OMAP media processors or directly

has been designed to deliver the highest
level o imaging quality available today with
minimal shot-to-shot delay. The OMAP-DM525
is able to provide industry-leading 20-mega-
pixel still images with less than a 2-second
shot-to-shot delay, giving mobile handsets
digital still camera perormance and quality.
To help provide the best picture in low-light
situations, OMAP-DM5x coprocessors include
a 3200 ISO-equivalent noise lter. This noise
lter is implemented in hardware and sotware
to deliver the best possible processing speed.
Consumers will be able to capture stunning
photographs in all dierent lighting situations
and surroundings.
Not only does TIs OMAP-DM5x amily o
processors deliver high-perormance image
quality, it also delivers high camcorder quality.
With up to 720p H.264 camcorder unctionality
at 24 rames per second, OMAP-DM5x copro-
cessors deliver high-denition perormance
or camera phones, giving customers the
high-denition video experience they have come
to expect in stand-alone handheld camcorders.
The ability to record and then playback content
at 720p gives consumers instant gratication
along with the ability to quickly and easily relive
their avorite captured moments. This, coupledwith the integrated TV-out solution, urther
expands the sharing possibilities with riends
and amily.
Ready-to-use softwareWith ready-to-use sotware included with
OMAP-DM5x coprocessors, designers can
extend their existing solutions without major
development time or costs. TIs sotware
package includes the ramework and codecs
that orm the baseline sotware, minimizing
risk and development time to bring new mobile
handsets to market quickly. No coprocessor
programming is needed, making operation o
the sotware transparent to the developer. The
high-level operating system (HLOS), multimedia
applications and graphical user interace all
remain on the host processor. Additionally, the
sotware management or the OMAP-DM5x
coprocessors programmable image processing
unctions and peripherals are also perormed
through the HLOS on the host processor.

parties. These additional sotware applications
will help designers deliver all the right eatures

Advanced power managementTIs OMAP-DM5x coprocessors include TIs
SmartRefex technology, which helps
extend battery lie with intelligent and adaptive
hardware and sotware techniques to
dynamically control voltage, requency and
power based on the device activity, modes
o operation and temperature. With so many
applications all converging into a single
battery-operated device, power management
becomes critical to ensure the best possible
customer experience. TIs SmartRefex
technology helps ensure that customers get
the long battery lie they expect.In addition to TIs SmartRefex technology,
TI oers a wide variety o other power man-
agement chips in OMAP-DM5x coprocessors,
including the TPS62352. The TPS62352 is a
high-requency, synchronous, step-down
DC-DC converter made especially or low-powe
applications like mobile handsets. This perect
pairing with the OMAP-DM5x coprocessors
helps extend battery lie to meet customer
demands.
